Im watching WaPo's coverage on Youtube. Here's some punditing.

Eastman knew his theories were bullshit.

He radically changed what he wanted - reject Biden electors outright, but that crashed and burned so they switched to putting the certification into recess but there was concern that would cause riots.

Eastman said sometimes violence in the streets is necessary. (I missed that)

The committee now has documents from Eastman's computer that confirms he knew VP did not have the authority to overturn the election.

the question is motive if trump and Eastman both knew their plan was illegal.

Hershman said he talked to Rudy early before Rudy's J6 speech, and Rudy admitted the plan was illegal, but he went on to speak at the rally saying it most certainly was legal and Eastman was the best constitutional lawyer around (to lots of cheers!)

Lots of talk about how crazy it is to suggest the framers of the constitution would give the power to alone choose the president to one person, especially if that person could become president of the US by his choice.

Editor's take: Eastman said "I'm here to ask you to/say to you that Pence should reject the electors."

The "I'm here to" language is a way of speaking the truth but glossing over a related truth. What he avoided saying was: "I've been asked/told to come here and ask you to/say to you.

The pressure on Pence must have been crushing, and spread out over many weeks. The OSG doesn't mess around when he wants something. This makes Pence’s resistance more admirable, IMHO.

Also, too, we should thank God. You just know that Pence spent hours in prayer over this. Apparently, God never once told him it sounded like a good idea.

Eastman agreed Kamala Harris can't choose the president in 2024, but Pence should go ahead and try it anyway.

1 am Jan 6, trump tweets, (@ pence) trump starts tweeting that Pence can fix the election. These continue thru the morning and they'll show not just on trump's feed but Pence's.

Jan 6th - Jacob went to Pence's residence with Mark Short, O'Mally and Chris Hodgeson. trump called while they were there. The VP had finalized his statement and his team was preparing it for relief, as Pence left to take a call from trump.


Herschmann is talking now. trump and his entire family was in the OO.

Ivanka on video said trump was on the phone with VP. Ivanka said the convo was "pretty heated" They were unable to hear Pence.

Nicholas Luna could hear trump call Pence "a wimp". trump said "you don't have the courage to make a hard decision."

Ivanka said she never heard trump talk to Pence like that before. Ivanka's CoS said Vanky told her daddy had a "difficult" convo with trump.

trump said he made the "wrong decision 4-5 years ago" regarding choosing Pence. Per Vanky's CoS, trump called Pence "the P-word."

there will be a future hearing about trump's ellipse speech. It originally had no harsh words for Pence, but trump revised the speech, and then add-libbed.

They're framing this so trump is solely responsible for the threats against Pence.

They showed pictures of trump in the oval office on the phone with Pence while they described the call.

Meadows told trump to lay off Pence. then trump sent a tweet out shitting on Pence and now videos of the insurrectionists saying Pence needs to be "burned."

Press staffers were told not to talk to the media, but they asked trump tweet something to stop the riot.

Lots of people saying they relayed requests that trump do something to stop the riot.

We're to the part where Pence is evacuated. Scary video of scary people. Looking at a diagram of the Capitol. They could hear the rioters.

The staffers were getting scared and the tweet trump just posted "poured gasoline on the fire."

The SS couldn't control the situation...they rushed Pence down the stairs.

Jacob: Pence refused to leave. SS directed them to get into the cars* but Pence refused so Jacob got back out. He understood Pence despite SS assuring him they would not pull away with him in the car. Pence said he trusted that SS agent, but he didn't trust the driver of the car. He would complete his work.

He didn't want the rioters to have the satisfaction of stopping the certification

*staff all got in the cars, until they noticed Pence didn't.

Short: calling McCarthy - He (McCarthy) indicated he'd had a call with trump and was frustrated trump didn't take this seriously.

Pence made several calls to check others safety.

trump never called Pence to see if he was safe.

Pence and wife were "frustrated" by that.

Jacob: emails to Eastman "thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege."

Eastman: The siege is bc you and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so the American people could see what happened (not verbatim)

Eastman after being told to advise trump his plan is illegal. Eastman responds, "He has been so advised, but you know him...once he gets an idea in his head...."

Eastman was still begging Jacob to have Pence suspend the certification. Email on the screen. too much for me to remember, but "I implore you to consider one more relatively minor violation and adjourn...." and it's off the screen.

this was as Pence was certifying the election.


Jacob didnt bother PEnce with the email for two more days. Pence's reaction "That's rubber room stuff."

compares Pence to someone in the bible, book of Daniel, about being ordered by the king to do something that's wrong. I don't know the story. Maybe someone can fill us in? Apparently Jacob is religious and had a bible with him and went to that chapter in Daniel as they waited in the tunnels.

I can't get enough of this Herschmann clip of him telling Eastman to get a good criminal lawyer, as he'll need it.

Jacob said, in the short term, the effect of overturning the election would have been horrible, but in the long term, it would have set precedent that VP can pick the president.
