Five takeaways from Arizona's audit results

The Arizona Senate on Friday heard testimony from the firm it hired to conduct a so-called audit of more than 2 million votes cast in Maricopa County during the 2020 elections, the latest in a cavalcade of election disinformation spread at the behest of former President Trump.


Here are five takeaways from the report and the testimony delivered Friday before the state Senate, which underscored what were already the results of the election: President Biden won both Arizona and the Electoral College.

Maricopa's count was correct

The main event of the so-called audit was a hand recount of the roughly 2,089,000 ballots voters in Maricopa County cast in 2020.


The count raises more questions about Cyber Ninjas than Maricopa

About that misleading statistic: The information Cyber Ninjas include in its report shows that human error was present in its hand count.

The Florida-based firm recounted ballots cast in both the race for president and the race for a U.S. Senate seat, in which Democrat Mark Kelly ousted Republican Martha McSally. If everything went according to plan, the same number of ballots should have been counted in both elections - ballots cast for the Democratic candidate, ballots cast for the Republican candidate, ballots cast for any third-party candidates and ballots that either did not record a vote, recorded too many votes or recorded a write-in vote.

The Maricopa County canvass count reflects that reality: It recorded 2,089,563 votes cast in both the presidential contest and the Senate contest - including 21,419 non-votes or write-ins in the presidential contest and 40,964 non-votes or write-ins in the Senate contest.

But the Cyber Ninjas count is different. The hand recount, a multistep process that included manual data entry from volunteers who were not professionally trained by election administrators, found 2,088,569 votes in the presidential contest and 2,088,396 votes in the Senate race - a difference of 175 ballots.

It's not a statistically massive difference, but it is a difference. In its first data point, Cyber Ninjas showed its count was marred by human error.

The report is full of made-for-TV misleading numbers

The Cyber Ninjas report includes several recommended areas that the firm suggests warrant further scrutiny, broken down by level of severity - critical, high, medium, low and unknown (or, in its term, "informational").

The top priority - one that Trump seized on even before the final report came out - is mail-in ballots cast from a voter's prior address. The Cyber Ninjas report suggests 23,344 ballots were cast by voters who no longer live at the address at which they are registered.

"Phantom voters!" Trump said in a context-free statement released Friday.

But election analysts and experts said that figure is meaningless without more context. Cyber Ninjas matched voters with commercial data, rather than official data maintained by county elections office. Those who cast ballots but now live in different areas may have moved since the election, or moved out of a parent's house around Election Day.

Just over 1 percent of voters who cast a ballot in the 2020 elections may have moved since - a figure well within the normal range of the share of people who change residences in a given year.

Garrett Archer, a former top aide in the Arizona secretary of state's office who now reports for Phoenix's ABC affiliate, told The Hill that the official data maintained by the county would have answered questions raised by the commercial data - but that Cyber Ninjas did not take that step.

"They didn't go far enough," Archer said.

Cyber Ninjas undercuts some of the most egregious conspiracy theories

In the weeks after November's election, a particularly bizarre conspiracy theory floated around Facebook and other social media networks: Arizona ballots cast with a Sharpie marker were allegedly disqualified.

Those allegations were false, but it didn't stop some Trump voters from claiming their votes had been disproportionately thrown out.

In its report, Cyber Ninjas dedicates a 158-word paragraph to a description of how ink bleeding through paper might affect a ballot - but really, only the last eight words of that paragraph matter: "No images that were reviewed met these conditions."

At the same time, some conspiracy theorists suggested that ballots had been imported from overseas. Inspectors spent days looking closely at the paper on which those ballots were printed, looking for evidence of impropriety - some suggested that ballots might have bamboo fibers, evidence of foreign interference.

"The large number of papers utilized during this election and the lack of official reporting about what paper stocks were utilized made it difficult to identify any potential counterfeit ballots. Standardization on these details would more greatly facilitate future audits," the report says.

The report won't mollify election deniers

Some Republicans seeking to align themselves with Trump raced to perpetuate the former president's wrong claims despite the audit results.

In a statement released even before the official report was delivered, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R), who is running in a crowded Republican primary to face Kelly in next year's elections, promised action.

"I will take all necessary actions that are supported by the evidence and where I have legal authority," Brnovich said. "Arizonans deserve to have their votes accurately counted and protected."

Brnovich, pointedly, did not cite any evidence offered by Cyber Ninjas.

"The purpose of this audit was to overturn the result of Arizona's presidential election, prove fraud and expose flaws in our election system. The audit went 0-3," said Mike Noble, a Phoenix-based pollster and political strategist. "Its one potential true impact is the lasting damage to our trust in our electoral process."

Correct about making any future (???) audit easier. But of course those green slimy men from outer space will also read the specifications and have identical paper at hand to insert fake votes for the Democratic candidate. I like the way The Hill's report (quoted by LM K above) not only points out that the Candy Nutjobs failed to find errors in the official counts, but also identified the mismatch as showing error in the Candy Nutjobs' count (not in the county's count) and justified that conclusion with reference to the overall tallies. The Nutjobs failed that consistency check — the size of that error could I guess be used to estimate the probable sizes of errors in their other totals. But I don't care enough to even start on that!

Personally, I seldom cast a vote in every contest or issue on my ballot. I often don't know anything about the judges or other down-ballot candidates, so I leave that race blank, rather than cast a random vote for a candidate about whom I know nothing.

The issue is not the number of votes cast for an office, but the number of ballots. That count includes those who don't vote for a particular office. As both Biden and Kelly were on the same ballot, the ballots counted for each should be the same, as it was with the official count. The official count did differentiate between votes and non-votes for a particular office and broke them out.

And I just saw a commercial on YouTube while I was waiting for a video to play, that sponsored so-called two Maricopa County rhinos declaring that Trump is stealing the election, that he is lying about voter fraud, and that we need to stand up and stop him. These two fools is enough to make you want to vomit. One was the Maricopa County Recorder. I wonder who is paying for those commercials? They make me want to vomit just like Douchy Ducey does. What a waste, to have a Gold Star Audit done just to have a report to go down in spectacular flames. What standard did we set for Az and for all the world to see, as Az chokes at the finish line. Great optics Karen Fann, was the truth that hard to swallow. Im getting rather tired of high priced bones being thrown at me. I hope if other states follow our audit I hope they develope the Gold Star Report example, because our report certainly didn't follow the quality of the audit. And get rid of those f___ing voting machines, paper ballot only, voter id at the door and breakup the usps, it's an outdated carbon producing corrupt organization.

The issue is not the number of votes cast for an office, but the number of ballots. That count includes those who don't vote for a particular office. Immediately after the hand count, Fann purchased a ballot counter.

I just received your e-mail sent to my supporter, Netty. My name is Orly Taitz. I am an attorney, who is challenging Barack Obama in several states and came very close to removing him from the ballot in the state of GA during primary, I will renew my challenge in the general election there and I brought challenges in other states. In MS and IN the legal challenges include Secretaries of States. I am placing you on notice of flagrant forgery in Barack Obama’s birth certificate, selective service certificate and his fraudulent use of CT Social Security number 042-68-4425, which was never assigned to him according to e-verify.

As a Secretary of state you are in charge of assuring lawful elections, free of fraud. If, while possessing this knowledge of fraud and forgery , you allow Mr. Obama on the ballot, you are at the very minimum violating your fiduciary duty as a Secretary of State in failing to assure lawful elections, at the maximum you are criminally complicit.

If someone in the city hall would be complicit with a forger, who claimed that your house is actually his house, would you be satisfied in having the same corrupt bureaucrat sending you a note, saying that he has a deed somewhere saying that your house belongs to the forger? Would you just move out of your house and give the keys to the criminal? Of course not. You would consider that to be a complete idiocy. You would demand the crook at the city hall to show the original deed, and if he does not provide an original deed, you would sue him together with the forger in RICO, as it would be racketeering and collusion between the forger and a paid governmental employee. The same thing is going on here. We have a criminal, Barack Hussein Obama, unlawfully occupying the White House and attempting to get on the ballot and extend his tenure for 4 more years, while using a forged birth certificate, forged selective service certificate and a stolen Social Security number. Two detectives from Maricopa County sheriffs department flew to HI, appeared in the Health Department, demanded to see the original birth certificate and were denied access. Coupled with evidence of forgery in the alleged copy, this provides for a probable cause to believe that what they have, is the same computer generated forgery, not a genuine birth certificate, created in 1961. Every Secretary of State has fraud investigators. I am sure you have one as well. In light of all of the above it is your fiduciary duty to send a fraud investigator and a forensic document expert to the Health Department of HI and demand access to the alleged original document for expert examination.

If you do not do that in light of all the evidence, you are violating your fiduciary duty at best or complicit at worst.

I called Assistant Attorney General of AZ Michelle Forney. In her letter to judge Reid, presiding over my case in Indiana, Ms. Forney and her client, Secretary of State of Arizona Ken Bennett committed fraud.

In her letter to judge Reid MS. Forney admitted that the Superior Court of Indiana has a right to subpoena citizens of other states, however she claimed that her client, Secretary of State of AZ Bennett does not have any evidence of fraud committed by candidate Barack Obama and he does not have any evidence of forgery in Obama’s documents.

I called Ms. Forney and advised her that she and her client committed egregious fraud on the court and if she does not correct her fraudulent statement, I will be filing a bar complaint against her with AZ bar and seeking her disbarrment for egregious fraud. Additionally I will be filing a criminal complaint against her and her client, Secretary of State of AZ Bennett with AG of AZ and with public integrity unit of the Department of Justice, as well as reporting this to the oversight committee and judicial committee of the US House of Representatives.

I reminded her that Ken Bennett received results of Arpaio’s investigation, showing forgery in Obama’s birth certificate and selective service certificate. They defrauded judge Reid by claiming that Secretary of State Bennett does not have any such evidence. I gave her until Monday to correct the fraudulent statements in her letter and advised her that I expect Secretary of State of Arizona Bennett in court on Tuesday. I will pay for his travel if he cannot afford it.

I made some smart ass comment on a Maricopa County thread on twitter and, wow, these people are seriously disturbed.

Nobody threatened or cursed me, nothing report-worthy, but I was told repeatedly that, deep down inside, I was running scared because I knew Biden and MC were caught red-handed and they were all going to prison. I responded with a gif of a crying baby and most of them blocked me, (after sending one last promise that Biden was, indeed, going to prison).

I was having a perfectly normal conversation on NextDoor yesterday about the Fraudit, the stolen election, Judicial Watch, you know, the usual topics. Someone asked why i didnt believe the election was stolen and I laid my arguments out. No snark, no dissing, just…my reasons.

The last time I talked politics on ND was over a year ago when I asked the Recall folks why they wanted Newsom gone. No one could give me a real answer then (“along with the criminal Pelosis and Browns, the Newsom family has been robbing California blind for generations” was a favorite. “Oh yeah? How?” Well, it turns out that Pelosi is mobbed up, the Browns just flat out stole money from the treasury, and Newsom is a monster. So I made a snarky comment and withdrew from the “conversation”.

Yesterday the guy who first asked me my reasons, and who had not responded to a woman who said “I looked it up. Judicial Watch was rated untrustworthy, a far-right organization”, told me I was arguing in bad faith when I added to her comment: Judicial Watch is made up largely of partisan hacks; one of their founders basically can’t practice law anymore, he’s burned so many bridges with judges and courts.

Then he added that I was probably a communist if I had voted for Biden, I was biased, incapable of being persuaded by logical arguments. he pulled up my comment from a year ago and said “See? Bad faith”
