Florida man gets 'agitated' by neighborhood Christmas parade, fires off several gunshots: deputies

https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/flori ... s-deputies
A Florida man was arrested after he allegedly fired off several shots during a neighborhood Christmas parade because he became "agitated" at what parade-goers were doing, according to deputies.

Douglas Moore, 43, was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol after the incident that unfolded in the 4100 block of County Road 218 in Middleburg on Saturday, according to an arrest affidavit from the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

As the Middleburg Christmas Parade was underway Saturday evening, deputies and SWAT Team members responded to a location along the parade route after several gunshots were heard. Middleburg is located about 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville.

According to deputies, Moore "became agitated by the activities generated by parade attendees." That's when he discharged a pistol several times while walking onto the property where a group of people were. The arrest affidavit noted that no victims or witnesses ever entered Moore's property.

Deputies said when they approached the back of the property, they saw several people yelling at the suspect, identified as Moore, at the property line. They were demanding to know why he was shooting a gun at them, according to the affidavit.

When Moore allegedly refused to comply with deputies' orders to get on the ground, he was taken to the ground and put into custody. Deputies also observed Moore's slurred speech and bloodshot, water eyes, the affidavit said.

No injuries were reported, and no one was struck by the gunfire, deputies said.

During a court appearance on Monday, Moore’s bond was set at just over $200,000 and his next court date was set for Jan. 8, 2024.

The Sheriff’s Office said SWAT/Fugitive Task Force deputies who were working security for the parade heard the gunshots Saturday and immediately responded.

“I am thankful for the quick response by the deputies who ran toward the sound of gunfire to keep our community safe,” Sheriff Michelle Cook said.

Deja Taylor's son took her gun to school & shot his teacher Abigail Zwerner back in January. She was lucky to survive.

After the shooting, the boy bragged to a school employee that he "shot that b**** dead."

Last month, Taylor was sentenced to 21 months in prison for using marijuana while owning a firearm.

She has now been sentenced to two years in prison for child neglect.

The weapon that the boy used in the classroom was reportedly used in another shooting just weeks before the teacher was shot.

According to text messages, Taylor had shot at the boy's father after seeing him with a girlfriend.

"Not once, but twice someone nearly lost their lives because of Taylor's offenses of conviction," prosecutors previously said.

The video below was taken shortly before Taylor was first sentenced to 21 months for using marijuana while owning a firearm.

Florida teen allegedly shoots and kills sister over Christmas gift spat
The 14-year-old was then allegedly shot and wounded by his 15-year-old brother in retaliation; both are now in custody

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... stmas-gift
A Florida woman holding her 11-month-old son in a baby carrier was fatally shot by her 14-year-old brother while trying to defuse an argument over Christmas gifts he was having with a 15-year-old brother who also was armed, authorities said.

The 15-year-old brother then shot his 14-year-old brother, though not fatally, for killing their sister on Sunday in Largo, Florida, which is located in the Tampa metro area, the Pinellas county sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The argument over gifts started while the three siblings were Christmas shopping with their mother and the sister’s two sons, ages six and 11 months. It continued when they went to their grandmother’s house where the sister, 23, told the younger brother to stop arguing with his older brother since it was Christmas Eve. The younger brother then told his sister he was going to shoot her and her infant, and then he shot her in the chest, the sheriff’s office said.

Me: inciting others to kill is not “free speach” - it has a cost and this POS needs to pay for his actions.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-28/ ... /103269324

In a motion filed with the US District Court in Arizona, Mr Day's defence asked that the charges be dismissed on the basis that they were free speech, and not a serious expression of an intent to commit violence.

"The statements alleged in the indictment were not statements of intent to harm a 'person' as required under the statute," the motion said.

"Furthermore, the statements are not a 'serious expression of an intent to commit an unlawful act of violence' and are therefore protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

"For these reasons, both counts of the indictment must be dismissed as insufficient."
Mr Day is set to face trial in February and remains in custody in Arizona.

Denied!!!

Some might say it was a Biblical ruling! :hide:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-29/ ... /103271920

In her decision to keep the accused behind bars, Federal Judge Camille Bible referenced the "very, very devastating series of events that occurred in Australia" and Mr Day's role in them.

She dismissed the defence's First Amendment arguments, saying that Mr Day was not being prosecuted for his ideologies, but for the "very specific" threats he made and the pattern of adverse interactions he has had with police officers.

She said the weight of evidence suggested he posed a danger to the public.

Judge Bible recognised Mr Day's declining health but said "it is concerning to the court that he's not sought medical treatment" and that there was no formal diagnosis.

She said given the circumstances, Mr Day would be "better off in custody where he can get care and treatment".

The jury trial for Mr Day is scheduled to commence on February 6.

Police say multiple people have been shot at a high school in Perry, Iowa; suspect is dead

PERRY, Iowa (AP) — Police in Perry, Iowa, say multiple people were shot at the city’s high school Thursday, early on students’ first day back in classes after their annual winter break.

Two gunshot victims were taken by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in the state capital of Des Moines, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Perry, a community of about 8,000 people. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante said the shooting occurred before school was set to start, so there were few students and faculty in Perry High School.

The suspect in the shooting has died of what investigators believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The official was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation and spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity.

A man who killed a 20-year-old woman in a car that mistakenly pulled into his driveway last year was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday.

Kevin Monahan fatally shot Kaylin Gillis on April 15 after she and her friends accidentally pulled into his driveway in Upstate New York while looking for a friend’s house, The Washington Post reported at the time.

A jury found Monahan, 66, guilty of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment in the first-degree, according to Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordan, who prosecuted the case.

Prosecutors are seeking the maximum sentence for the murder conviction, which is 25 years to life. Sentencing is scheduled for March 1.

An investigation is underway Wednesday after six people were found shot to death in a remote desert area in the community of El Mirage.

The bodies were discovered around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to a welfare check off Highway 395 between Lake Los Angeles and Adelanto, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said.

“Investigators with our Specialized Investigations Division are responding to the scene to conduct the investigation,” Rodriguez said.

Officials initially indicated there were five victims but during their investigation, a sixth body was discovered at the scene, Rodriguez said during a morning news conference.
:snippity:
The bodies of multiple bloodied victims could be seen strewn about the ground with dozens of evidence markers and bullet casings surrounding them.

Some of the bodies also appeared to have been burned.

Sky5 was over the scene at 8 a.m. but the images were too graphic to air.

On the ground, two vehicles could be seen in the brush behind the crime scene tape investigators used to cordon off the area.
