The longer this lasts, though, perhaps the more powerless he becomes.

I'm just as concerned about what's behind (after) him.

I always figured Putin for a "If I can't have it, I'll burn it all down" kinda guy. No wonder trump admired him.

It isn't of Chinese origin, I've discovered, but "May you live in interesting times" is surely a curse.

Having said that, the trick is to thrive and survive, even in interesting times.

Russia has never been a democracy, and it may be fundamentally inconsistent with democratic principles. To the extent it has been ruled at all, it has always been ruled by a strongman. Suranis is right, it's hard to participate as a citizen when you own nothing except today's ration of vodka and you have no education or knowledge of the world. Suranis said the average Russian might have a radio, but I'm adding that he's gonna sell it tomorrow morning for some delicious and nutritious vodka. Then he won't even have a radio. :(

So, umm ... yeah. Whoever comes after Putin ... probably after at least a brief period of power vacuum ... will be just as bad, or worse. If s/he isn't, s/he won't be able to rule the country.

When we implement a world government, we can fix that shit. :daydreaming:

Russian airlines ordered to stop selling tickets to Russian men aged 18 to 65
Russian airlines have stopped selling tickets to Russian men aged 18 to 65 unless they can provide evidence of approval to travel from the Ministry of Defense.

All flights from Russia to available foreign destinations were sold out Wednesday after President Vladimir Putin declared a “partial” mobilization of the country’s 25 million reservists.

Flights from Moscow to the capitals of Georgia, Turkey and Armenia — which do not require visas for Russians — for Sept. 21 were unavailable within minutes of Putin’s announcement, according to Russia’s top travel planning website aviasales.ru.

By noon Moscow time, direct flights from Moscow to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan had also stopped showing up on the website.

Mobilization of many reservists will further damage the Russian economy.

Like other countries before them they will need to put a system in place to avoid mobilization of workers who are essential to the war effort.

Considering Russia's apparent lack of planning for this war I doubt such a system already exists.

This reminds me of Goebbels' Total War speech in 1943.

That did not end well for Germany.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly suffered a fall at his official Moscow residence this week, causing him to "involuntarily defecate," New York Post reported quoting a Telegram channel with apparent links with his security team.
The report added that Putin, 70, reportedly fell down five steps before landing on his tailbone.

The impact caused the Russian President to "involuntarily defecate" due to "cancer affecting his stomach and bowels," the Telegram channel said.

During a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel last month, Putin's hands appeared to shake and turn purple, UK-based Express reported.

Did Putin Fall Down the Stairs and Soil Himself? What We Know

https://www.newsweek.com/did-putin-fall ... ow-1764291
Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in late February, speculation about Russian President Vladimir Putin's health has implied that he is battling an array of illnesses, including cancer and Parkinson's disease.

The most recent rumor, posted by the General SVR's Telegram channel, alleges after a difficult day of leadership earlier this week, Putin fell down five steps on a staircase and landed on his coccyx, or tailbone. The jarring fall caused the Russian leader to then "defecate involuntarily," according to the Telegram channel.

General SVR has repeatedly touted claims that Putin is sick, with many media outlets citing its Telegram channel as people worldwide look for proof that Putin's leadership is cracking. Previous General SVR Telegram posts have been widely reported in Europe and the United States, with organizations like the New York Post, United Kingdom's daily newspaper The Mirror and various other media organizations citing the channel's claims in articles.
