DeSantis Now Says Teachers Are Shelving Books to Make Him Look Bad

Wed, February 15, 2023 at 11:59 PM GMT+1

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is attempting to shift the blame after backlash stemming from a school district’s removal of baseball star Roberto Clemente’s children’s book.

Clemente’s book references racism he dealt with as a Black Puerto Rican baseball player, and has been removed from the district’s libraries for months pending review, in compliance with the state’s newly passed “Stop WOKE Act,” according to Duval County Public Schools.

The governor, who’s made removing “critical race theory” from education a key component of his platform, is now accusing the school district of trying to get publicity from their “outlandish” stunt in removing the book, claiming it has nothing to do with new laws.

“They're manufacturing that to try to create a narrative,” he said during a press conference Tuesday. DeSantis was backed by Florida’s Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, who called the controversial rules that have forced costly reviews and book removals “fake news.”

“Florida does not ban books, and this particular book on baseball legend Roberto Clemente is currently on school bookshelves across the state!” Diaz tweeted.

However, a spokesperson for the school district pointed out that Clemente’s book is one of 1.6 million titles under review following the state’s restrictive new laws, which have impacted teachers’ ability to teach about topics including race, gender and sexuality in Florida.

DeSantis doesn't need any help in looking bad . . . to anyone other than his constituency, which is disturbingly larger than one might hope.

Sure, that way he doesn't have to *reject* them, he can just say they are under review.

Until, um, the year 2047, when they get all caught up with the backlog.

Big news from The Boss!

And The Gateway House of Boys is ANGRY!
The Kiss of Death – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Endorsed by George Soros (VIDEO)
By Joe Hoft Published February 16, 2023 at 9:15pm

Florida Governor DeSantis just received the kiss of death. George Soros has endorsed DeSantis for 2024. [LIE] This could not be worse for DeSantis. When the devil likes you, you might be doing something wrong.

George Soros famously admitted to helping the Nazis in World War II steal from Jews and take their booty. He said in a 60 minutes interview 20 years ago from Ukraine of all places, that if he didn’t do it then someone else would – shrugging it off*.

[* LIE. Soros was born in Hungary in 1930 and survived the Holocaust, in which over 500,000 Jewish Hungarians were killed, according to the biography published on the billionaire's website. His family survived by acquiring false identity papers, which concealed their backgrounds, the biography says. Soros was 13 years old when the Nazis occupied Hungary. During this time, he was sent to live with a "phony godfather" who at one point took him along to take inventory of a Jewish person's house, but Soros was not involved with confiscating their goods, The Washington Post reports. He was also sent to run errands at the Judenrat, a Jewish council forced to obey the Nazis' orders, but he didn't round up any Jewish people. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/fac ... 306094001/]

After this relationship with the Nazis, Soros was somehow given US citizenship and has been a huge funder of the Democrat Party. Soros is connected with a number of non-profits (which are supposed to be non-biased per US tax law). These non-profits are ruthless attack dogs. Soros-related groups were behind many of the riots during the Trump Administration. He’s backed DAs in cities who refuse to indict criminals, and corrupt secretaries of states in swing states. Gaining a Soros recommendation is not a good thing for DeSantis. Conservative Treehouse reported on Thursday:

Saying that DeSantis “is shrewd, ruthless, and ambitious”, George Soros delivers an endorsement of the Florida governor adding, “He is likely to be the Republican candidate.” When billionaire leftist and creepy globalist George Soros is complimenting your personality attributes, you just might be doing the whole Republican presidential candidate thing wrong. Just sayin’. “My hope for 2024… Trump and Governor DeSantis of Florida will slug it out for the Republican nomination. Trump has turned into a pitiful figure, continually mourning his loss in 2020. Big Republican donors are abandoning him in droves. DeSantis is shrewd, ruthless, and ambitious. He is likely to be a Republican candidate,” Soros said.

The Washington Examiner pointed out the comments from Soros earlier in the day:
In a wide-ranging speech, Soros ripped Trump’s presidency and complemented elements of DeSantis’s style. “DeSantis is shrewd, ruthless, and ambitious,” said Soros, adding, “He is likely to be the Republican candidate.” Trump, on the other hand, “has turned into a pitiful figure continually bemoaning his loss in 2020. Big Republican donors are abandoning him in droves,” he said. Soros, an international financier and philanthropist, typically dumps millions of dollars into political races and committees. He heads a global liberal network of groups pushing climate change, financial reform, and changes to the criminal system. He recently teamed with Charles Koch and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund to revive the Iran nuclear deal, according to reports.
Soros hates President Trump and did all he could to see him removed from office. The fact that he shared this about DeSantis is not a good thing for the Florida governor.

And that, of course, is why the Republicans are so desperate for the Democrats to save them from themselves and take care of their Trump problem for them...because none of them have the courage or will to stand up to Trump themselves.

  • Ron DeSantis told all public universities in Florida to hand over the medical records of trans students who sought care.
Insider has confirmed six of the 12 universities have complied with the request.
Now, college students across the state are planning a walkout to protest the governor's request.

WTF even is this? I thought medical records were private and protected by law from nonsense like this? What's next, seeking the records of those who have sought help with alcohol abuse to pull their driver licenses? Gathering the records of those that sought help for drug abuse to charge them with drug crimes? I don't get it.

He's asking for statistics that do not include patient data.

But once you know how many there are, you can get around to how to catch them....

Florida Mulls 'Classical' Christian Alternative To SAT And ACT Testing

Sara Boboltz
Sun, February 19, 2023 at 1:13 AM GMT+1

As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis continues picking fights with the College Board over “wokeness,” the state’s Department of Education is searching for an alternative to the board’s SAT and ACT college entrance exams.

State officials have been meeting with Jeremy Wayne Tate, who founded the company Classic Learning Initiatives in 2015 as an alternative way of measuring student ability, the Miami Herald reported Friday.

Tate’s educational philosophy centers around using the Socratic method to teach the traditional Western literary canon, largely made up of works by white men. A company board member said the test follows the “great classical and Christian tradition.”

The SAT and ACT have been criticized for years for how they incentivize “teaching to the test” or prioritizing test material over all other material that could also benefit a student’s education.

But recently, DeSantis and other conservatives have begun attacking the organization behind it, accusing the College Board of going too far with diversity and inclusion efforts. A new AP course on African American studies offered by the College Board was rejected by DeSantis’ education department earlier this year, and the governor has even suggested the idea of banning AP classes in Florida entirely.

Henry Mack, senior chancellor of Florida’s education department, supported Tate and his Classic Learning Test on social media.

Mack tweeted Thursday that the test “offers the opportunity for all our colleges & universities to rightsize their priorities.”

On Friday, he was more succinct: “CLT, not CRT!” (CRT, or critical race theory, has been a conservative boogeyman for years in the era of the Black Lives Matter movement.)

About the book banning and book reviews:

They are passing such draconian laws, that school boards and libraries are right to be afraid of inadvertently breaking these crazy new laws. Who knows what book some right wing whack job is going to object to next!

Also, my heart breaks for the hell they are trying to put the trans students through. Like their lives aren’t difficult enough. :crying: :crying:

Ron DeSantis on Fox & Friends on Biden's visit to Ukraine: "I and many Americans are thinking to ourselves, Ok, he's very concerned about those borders halfway around the world. He's not done anything to secure our own borders here... we have a lot of problems accumulating here."
@Timodc
First look at DeSantis foreign policy:

- Blames US for Russian invasion of Ukraine

- Attacks US president while in war zone

- Signals we should dial back support for Ukraine

- minimizes RUS threat

- Anti Afghanistan withdrawal

- Bellicose talk about China

Florida lawmakers passed a bill Friday expanding a program used to fly migrants to Democratic-led cities and states. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration will now be able to relocate migrants elsewhere from any state in the country, not just from Florida.

Question: wouldn't there be some article in the Constitution or Amendments that prohibits states from meddling with the politics of another state?

That phrase needs some work. I would interpret this to mean that the Alien Transport Program is unauthorized, which in my opinion is how is really ought to be.

We need some Constitutional guidance here. It seems to this non-lawyer that States' rights are in play; perhaps even the Commerce Clause and other issues of sovereignty.

Someone should relocate DeSantis to the Darien Gap.

Regarding that Florida defamation law, what would it take for Florida courts to have jurisdiction? Would at least one of the parties to the suit have to live in Florida? Or could some pissed off person sue a reporter in the state of Florida - even if *neither* of them live there, but the story itself was either broadcast into Florida by the national news networks or published by/shown on a Florida outlet?
