RFK Jr. spoke earlier today at the Libertarian National Convention. Trump is scheduled to speak there tomorrow.

@RonFilipkowski

Holy shit. A guy just made a motion at the Libertarian National Convention for “Donald Trump to go f*ck himself” and the crowd all applauded. Trump is scheduled to speak tomorrow.

Ramaswamy is trying to sell the Libertarians on supporting Trump. It's not going well.

The magas have taken over the Libertarian Party committee to ensure they don't run a strong candidate in the election.

Well, the GOP always ran the Libertarian Party and used them as a spoiler, so it was pretty easy to neuter them this time. The Libertarians were too dumb to notice.

They are letting them peep behind the curtain this time though, because the GOP have become too dumb to keep the illusion up.

The squeaky rubber chickens signified Trump being too chicken to debate RFK Jr. Libertarians were going to create noise as Trump was speaking.
Zachary Petrizzo
@ZTPetrizzo

Following Trump being told to go “f*ck himself” and rubber chickens being passed out at the Libertarian convention, Trump allies on Telegram are making a last-ditch attempt to get the message to the ex-president that he’s going to be “ambushed” by incognito “antifa” activists.

Libertarian convention attendee says Trump’s Secret Service detail is confiscating rubber chickens

Pretty wild last hour at the convention as a speaker accused the Libertarian Party organizers of allowing Trump supporters —who the speaker called “MAGAts”—of getting better seats at Trump’s speech than the actual libertarians.

Trump's appearance at the Libertarian's National Convention did not go well. Plenty of Republicans attended and cheered him on, but they were no match for the boos from the Libertarians. I can't imagine Trump was happy to speak to an unfriendly audience!

Trump furiously jeered as he taunts Libertarians for winning ‘three per cent’ in elections at their convention
Audible boos clashed with impassioned cheers at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington DC on Saturday as former President Donald Trump took the stage before what was certainly the most skeptical if not outright hostile crowd of his bid for the White House this year.

Donald Trump was jeered multiple times within the first few minutes of his speech to a rowdy crowd of roughly a thousand people Saturday evening at the Washington Hilton, where just a few weeks ago his 2024 election opponent Joe Biden spoke at the White House Correspondent’s Association’s (WHCA) annual dinner.

The angry yells from the audience were so constant at parts that it was difficult to tell whether the crowd were booing the incumbent president or the speaker in front of them. At other points, it was plainly obvious: a chant of “we want Trump!” was roundly drowned out by an angry response.

Another round of boos came as Mr Trump declared that he had put everything “on the line” to defend freedom. Boos, both times when Mr Trump suggested that he was a Libertarian through virtue of his criminal trials, prosecuted by the Department of Justice. More boos when the former president suggested, twice, that the Libertarian Party proper should nominate him.

But nothing, nothing compared to the furious jeers that erupted as Donald Trump turned to outright taunting his audience.

“The Libertarian Party should nominate Trump for president,” he declared in third-person. More boos.

“Maybe you don’t want to win. Only do that if you want to win,” Mr Trump quipped over the jeers. “If you want to lose, don’t do that. Keep getting three per cent every four years.”

The reason I didn’t file paperwork for the Libertarian Nomination, which I would have absolutely gotten if I wanted it (as everyone could tell by the enthusiasm of the Crowd last night!), was the fact that, as the Republican Nominee, I am not allowed to have the Nomination of another Party. Regardless, I believe I will get a Majority of the Libertarian Votes. Junior’ Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, who’s destroyed everything he’s touched, especially in New York and New England, and in particular, as it relates to the Cost and Practicality of Energy. He’s not a Libertarian. Only a FOOL would vote for him!

NYT put this up as a brief postscript in their live updates feed on the Libertarian Convention thing (x-post to this and JFK Jr. thread):
And he’s out: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was eliminated in the first round of voting for the Libertarian presidential nomination, with just 2.07 percent of the votes at the convention in Washington. According to the count, he received 19 votes, just ahead of a candidate listed as Toad (Josh Anderson). Donald J. Trump was not an approved candidate, but he was written in by 6 delegates.
So, if I'm reading this right, both RFK Jr. and "Toad" got triple TFG's votes.

The rightwing plan to take over ‘sanctuary’ cities – and rebuild them Maga-style
Trump has railed against urban centers run by Democrats, and Project 2025 lays out how to crack down on them

Rachel Leingang
Sun 26 May 2024 14.00 CEST

To hear Donald Trump tell it, America’s cities are in dire shape and in need of a federal intervention.

“We’re going to rebuild our cities into beacons of hope, safety and beauty – better than they have ever been before,” he said during a recent speech to the National Rifle Association in what has become a common refrain on the campaign trail. “We will take over the horribly run capital of our nation, Washington DC.”

Trump has for years railed against cities, particularly those run by Democratic officials, as hotbeds for crime and moral decay. He called Atlanta a “record setting Murder and Violent Crime War Zone” last year, a similar claim he makes frequently about various cities.

His allies have an idea of how to capitalize on that agenda and make cities in Trump’s image, detailed in the conservative Project 2025: unleash new police forces on cities like Washington DC, withhold federal disaster and emergency grants unless they follow immigration policies like detaining undocumented immigrants and share sensitive data with the federal government for immigration enforcement purposes.

Project 2025’s Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, an extensive document breaking down each part of the federal government and recommending changes to be made to advance rightwing policy, was created by the Heritage Foundation, with dozens of conservative organizations and prominent names contributing chapters based on their backgrounds.

This part of the project is another Republican attempt at a crackdown on so-called “sanctuary” cities, places around the country that don’t cooperate with the federal government on enforcing harsh immigration policies.

What is Project 2025 and what does it have to do with a second Trump term?
Conservatives have created a guide for how Trump and allies could dismantle the US government if he wins the election

Rachel Leingang
Sun 26 May 2024 14.00 CEST

Heavyweight conservatives joined together to create a roadmap for a potential second Trump presidency, and they are working to recruit and train the people who would work in an incoming conservative administration.

Project 2025 details across more than 900 pages how Trump and his allies could dismantle and disrupt the US government. It suggests ridding the federal ranks of many appointed roles and stacking agencies instead with more political appointees aligned with and more beholden to Trump’s policy prescriptions.

Led by the rightwing Heritage Foundation, the project showcases a federal government that cracks down intensely on immigration, vanquishes LGBTQ+ and abortion rights, diminishes environmental protections, overhauls financial policy and takes aggressive action against China.

What is Project 2025?

Project 2025 has four pillars to extend conservative influence throughout the US government, starting with a lengthy roadmap. Alongside the document, the group is creating a database of potential personnel for an incoming Trump administration, as well as training them on how the government should work as part of a “Presidential Administration Academy”. The final step will be a presidential transition playbook that seeks to help the next president hit the ground running once he takes office.

Project 2025’s guidebook, called Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, steps through government agencies one by one, laying out ways an incoming conservative president could do away with Biden administration directives and organize around rightwing ideals.

The ideas in the conservative manifesto, published early last year, were the culmination of dozens of rightwing groups and are written in many cases by Trump allies or former Trump appointees. They represent a conservative consensus and are intended to help the right speak collectively about what they want an incoming president to do in office.

The project doesn’t specifically say it’s intended for Trump, but that any conservative president could take its mantle and run with it, though the themes throughout the guidebook are aligned closely with Trump’s policy aims in many cases.

Who is behind it?

The Heritage Foundation, an influential thinktank on the right, has created similar presidential roadmaps in the past, most notably the first Mandate for Leadership that heavily influenced Ronald Reagan’s administration in 1981. The foundation claims that Reagan gave copies of the manifesto to “every member of his Cabinet” and that nearly two-thirds of the policy recommendations it laid out were either “adopted or attempted” by Reagan.

“The book literally put the conservative movement and Reagan on the same page, and the revolution that followed might never have been, save for this band of committed and volunteer activists,” this year’s Mandate for Leadership says in its introduction.

While Heritage is in charge of the project, the group counts about 100 other conservative organizations as supporters or participants, which the project says is “unparalleled in the history of the conservative movement” for its size and scope. Most conservative organizations with influence on US politics are signed on, from the American Legislative Exchange Council and Center for Renewing America to Turning Point USA and Hillsdale College.

Heritage is led by Kevin Roberts, who previously led the Texas Public Policy Foundation. He wrote a foreword to the Mandate for Leadership, where he lays out how he sees America in 2024 – a place where “inflation is ravaging family budgets, drug overdose deaths continue to escalate, and children suffer the toxic normalization of transgenderism with drag queens and pornography invading their school libraries”.

Based on the ideals laid out in the Project 2025 roadmap, the group takes a Christian worldview and wants to see the powers of the president expanded. Restoring a traditional nuclear family is mentioned as a key goal throughout the project.
