Re: Flying the Unfriendly Skies
We are flying for the first time in September, and I'm already dreading it. We decided for our trip that we had to take or lose $$ to stay relatively close with shorter flights, so we are flying to Montreal and back from Chicago. I am looking forward to the small expedition ship cruise between the two. We got free airfare, so if it's looking bad, we could take Amtrak to/from either city. The Montreal part would be harder to do, but Amtrak goes to Montreal.

Re: Flying the Unfriendly Skies
My sister contacted me this week about coming out to see my niece (now 6 weeks old!). Unfortunately, I won't know until Monday whether the mask mandate for mass transit will remain in place, and because of work I couldn't fly out this weekend. Hoping to fly out in two weeks, but not booking a flight until I know I can go. Between the baby and Dr. Vicklund's health issues, there's no way I'm getting on a tin can for several hours with people not wearing masks.

Will you be going through the Welland Canal on this cruise? The canal goes through my city, St. Catharines.
I’ll have to go to one of the viewing locks and wave at your boat as it goes by.
Re: Flying the Unfriendly Skies
Yes, we will. It will be a small ship, only 77 cabins, 162 people. We were on a smaller boat in the Chilean fjords, but this is one of the new expedition ships a number of the travel companies are building. We've been on Viking a number of times, but this is Vantage Travel. They just started this last year. Both Viking and Vantage have the hull-hardened small ships that just circle the globe, including Antarctica. You sort of choose the part(s) you want.jemcanada2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:47 pmHi Andy,AndyinPA wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 11:17 am We are flying for the first time in September, and I'm already dreading it. Re: Flying the Unfriendly Skies
I just looked at the itinerary for the cruise, Andy. You’re going to some great locations! Montreal, Kingston, Upper Canada Village, Toronto! You might recognize the Distillery District in Toronto. It’s been used as a location in so many movies and tv shows. Of course, Toronto City Hall has been in movies (especially science fiction ones).
Port Weller, the entrance to the canal from Lake Ontario, is part of St. Catharines. That whole area between there and Port Colborne is my stomping grounds!
but with an O
You’ll love the Niagara Parkway and the wineries. Have fun!!!

With luck, the cruise could encounter the world's foremost visionary, Kap'n Karl!jemcanada2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 4:58 pm I just looked at the itinerary for the cruise, Andy. We've actually been to most places, but not St. Catherine's. We've been through the St. Lawrence Seaway as far as Montreal from the Atlantic; now we will get to do the rest of it. It's spectacular scenery.

Think of Grumpy Old Guy as you travel. He’d camp along the seaway to watch the boats.

Re: Flying the Unfriendly Skies
Ol' Wifehorn flying to Seattle on Wednesday morning, to see our niece's new babby gurl. This niece is ol' Wifehorn's brother's kid. The brother was a asshole (but RIP); however, the niece unaccountably developed into a wonderful young lady and excellent mother, with a husband who is a great guy, and I know because I spent a week out there last summer.
We have a test kit, and will test ol' Wifehorn before she flies. We have very comfortable KN95s she will be OK with it for 5 hours.
I'll give you a report, probably in a different thread.

Don't mind me, I just fell out of a coconut tree.

O'Reilly says he was in the right and something something righteous anger because Jesus says so. It's in the Bible that he was in the right.
