Fantastic thread. Good read. I particularly loved the story about the 30-person forest commando unit that harassed and ultimately stopped the fearsome 40 mile convoy. I hope a movie is made about this some day.

Awesome, thanks! :bighug:

I note that the author confuses east and west, yes?

A problem I also have in any language except for my native tongue.

One would think that the Russians, of all people, would understand that home field advantage really means something in war...

He also accepts the claim that two Russian IL-76 were shot down. That has not been confirmed.
otherwise he’s spot on.

Read the unroll, and he has added a correction that addresses both these issues.

I never understand Haiku. People praise it, and my brain says "what?"

But, that one spoke to me. It resonated. As Slim said, it deserves an award.

Its just a form of Japanese poetry, which is probably beutiful in Japanese (which is a Tone language) but probably loses something in English.

Try reading them aloud. The flow is almost soothing, even if the subject matter isn't. I've played around with Haiku. It's quite a challenge to get the point across in a specific number of syllables and lines. Not. Easy.

When Atticus posts one, part of me wants to respond in Haiku, then I realize I can't begin to compete.

If Hitler had executed the same war strategy that Putin is currently using in Ukraine, WWII would have ended in six weeks in a stalemate in Poland.

Amb. Thomas-Greenfield: "Reports indicate that Russian Federal Security agents are confiscating passports and IDs, taking away cellphones, and separating families ... I do not need to spell out what these so-called 'filtration camps' are reminiscent of. It is chilling."
