Here is Reffitt's family. The son who turned him in is estranged from the family and living with his girlfriend.

There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

A D.C. police lieutenant in the intelligence branch has been put on leave amid an investigation into alleged improper contacts with a prominent member of the extremist group Proud Boys, according to four law enforcement officials with knowledge of the case.

The officials identified the officer as Shane Lamond, a 22-year veteran. Law enforcement officials said there is evidence suggesting communications between Lamond and Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, who described himself as the former chairman of the group.

Efforts to reach Lamond on Wednesday evening were not successful.

Speaking at a news conference, D.C. Police Chief Robert J. Contee III said only that a member of the department had been placed on administrative leave during an “ongoing investigation” being conducted by his department, the FBI and the Department of Justice.

Tennessee Father and Son Arrested on Charges For Assault on Law Enforcement During Jan. 6 Capitol Breach
Defendants Accused of Rushing Police Line, Pushing Officers

WASHINGTON — A Tennessee man and his son were arrested yesterday for assaulting law enforcement during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, which disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress that was in the process of ascertaining and counting the electoral votes related to the presidential election.

Mark Waynick, 51, and his son, Jerry McKane Waynick, 19, both of Charlotte, Tennessee, are charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, civil disorder, and related offenses. They were arrested in Charlotte, Tennessee, and made their initial appearances yesterday afternoon in the Middle District of Tennessee.

According to court documents, the Waynicks were among those interfering with law enforcement inside and outside the Capitol on Jan. 6. Both were wearing tactical helmets, tactical vests, and tactical gloves with knuckle protectors. They joined other rioters in an effort to break the law enforcement perimeter on the West Front of the Capitol. At approximately 1:36 p.m., they rushed toward a line of police officers and pushed and reached toward the officers. Jerry McKane Waynick attempted to grab an officer’s baton. At approximately 1:40 p.m., Jerry McKane Waynick picked up a large barrier/cone and threw it at officers who were holding the riot line.
Just political discourse and touristy stuff.

Bus. Insider: Capitol rioter Jenna Ryan says she watched TV, ate bologna sandwiches, and met 'a lot of great people' during her 60 days in prison:
A Capitol rioter who was sentenced to 60 days in a prison was released last week.

In a video statement, Jenna Ryan said she ate bologna sandwiches and met "great" people in prison.

She also said she was "proud of the fact" that she protested on January 6, 2021.

Capitol rioter Jenna Ryan says she watched a lot of TV, ate bologna sandwiches, and met "a lot of great people" during her 60 days in prison.

The Texas realtor, who pleaded guilty to a single federal misdemeanor charge of parading on Capitol grounds, marked her return with a Twitter video on Sunday, in which she said she was "so excited" to be free.

"I served 60 days in prison. I did not get beat up ... I ate a lot of bologna sandwiches, I didn't lose a ton of weight," Ryan said. "I was really really blessed because I met really great people. I prayed every day, I read the Bible, got close to God, watched a lot of TV, read a lot of books."

Before serving her prison sentence, Ryan had said that she hoped to practice yoga, detox from alcohol, and lose 30 pounds while in the facility.

Ryan also claimed in a series of tweets over the weekend that she was "tortured" in prison, without expanding on specifics.

You are my spirit animal, you know that?
Moo.
But seriously, that is one of the greatest lines (said by one of the greatest underappreciated characters) in Eng. Lit. That you have to be an effing Shakespeare scholar these days to even understand what it means, the power of the words themselve--even without getting more than the gist--is just overwhelming. Iambic pentameter at its most explosive. An insult for the ages.

Love that play. Love the histories. *sigh*

This book is amazing, liked it so much on Overdrive we got it on Amazon to have it. There is so much detail that it's easy to listen to multiple times. It takes you right back to that period, not just the plays, but the theatres, the living conditions, the plagues that shut London down so Shakespeare & Co had to go to the countryside to tour for months on end to work, the family relationships and religion... it's spellbindingly good. Your library should have it in read and audiobook formats. We love Simon Vance as a reader (he does many of the James Bond and Anne Rice books).

Shakespeare
audiobook (Unabridged) ∣ The Biography
By Peter Ackroyd

This is the big one from Peter Ackroyd — and a worthy companion to London: The Biography.

Only Peter Ackroyd can combine readable narrative and unique observation with a sharp eye for the fascinating fact. His method is to position Shakespeare in the close context of his world. In this way, he not only richly conjures up the texture of Shakespeare's life, but also imparts an amazing amount of vivid, interesting material about place, period and background.

Some snippets: Shakespeare was secretly a Roman Catholic; the witches in Macbeth were not hags but nymphs played by boys; the "best" bed was for guests which was why he bequeathed his wife his "second best" bed (the matrimonial bed in which he probably died); "ham acting" derives from the strutting walk which showed off the ham-strings; an actor called "Will" played female parts — could it have been Shakespeare himself? And, the strongest bond in the plays is between father and daughter, perhaps reflecting Shakespeare's own family life. From the Hardcover edition.
You would probably enjoy The Year of Lear by James Shapiro. If you haven't already.

NBC: Capitol rioter photographed with Pelosi's podium on Jan. 6 sentenced to prison:
Adam Johnson bragged he "broke the internet" when he was photographed carrying Nancy Pelosi's lectern* during the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

A Florida man who bragged he "broke the internet" when he was photographed carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's podium during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to 75 days in prison on Friday.

Adam Johnson, a stay-at-home father of five boys, traveled to D.C. in support of former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Trump lost to President Joe Biden. U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton sentenced Johnson to prison on Friday, saying Johnson made "a mockery" of the events by grabbing Pelosi's lectern and played an active role in the attack. Walton said he just couldn't overlook Johnson's behavior, which he said was deserving of a period of incarceration. Johnson will get credit for some time he's already served, and will also pay a $5,000 fine.

Johnson pleaded guilty to a criminal count of entering and remained in a restricted building or grounds, admitting that he unlawfully entered the Capitol after witnessing battles with police outside the building, and then grabbed Pelosi's podium "because he believed it would make a good prop for a picture." Johnson also admitted that he shouted that a bust of George Washington would be "a great battering ram" as rioters attempted to break into the floor of the U.S. House, where members of Congress were still present.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Arco told the court Friday that Johnson's conduct deserves prison time. She played a video of Johnson jiggling the door of what he thought was Pelosi's office. There can be no question, Arco said, that Johnson knew he was part of a violent mob.
Too also:
"Unfortunately, he received considerable attention simply because the lectern belonged to Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi," [Johnson's attorneys] wrote. "Arguably, if he latched onto some other piece of government furniture for his photo opportunity jail time would not even be a consideration."
:brickwallsmall:

Dude took the podium lectern because it was a Pelosi totem.
