Canadian 'Freedom Convoy': TD Bank freezes accounts with $1.1M for trucker protest

Toronto-Dominion Bank froze two personal bank accounts, one of which included C$1.4 million ($1.1 million), to support "Freedom Convoy" protesters in Canada who are pushing back against vaccine mandates and other COVID-19 procedures.

In a statement to FOX Business the bank explained the move.

"TD has asked the court to accept the funds, which were raised through crowdfunding and deposited into personal accounts at TD, so they may be managed and distributed in accordance with the intentions of the donors, and/or to be returned to the donors who have requested refunds but whose entitlement to a refund cannot be determined by TD."

I find it fascinating that all these people seem to think that nothing untoward will happen to them. Their faces are being recorded, license plates recorded, etc., and think they are immune.

I did not follow the protest in detail, but how did this insurance theme pop up? Surely an insurer could care less of someone driving his car in a protest convoy or blocking roads. Most policies have a section that excludes coverage for damages during riots, a protester would have to pay for damages themselves. Or did protesters think that the insurance at renewal time would get to see a record of traffic law violation or criminal connduct that might prevent them from renewing a policy? Most would just see the entry, recognize it was not an accident but other infraction and move on, maybe increase the premium cause potentially an unsafe driver.

I'm thinking that if bonding is required they may be AOL.


I've never had to be bonded, but I'm willing to bet that the requirements for that are strict enough that getting involved in this protest might not be a good thing.

I think this is because the Canadian government has said if they don't go home, they'll have their licenses revoked. And if they don't have a license, how can they be insured? That's not a hard question. That's what it's about, now that TS Bank has frozen the funds, they don't have any money and are facing fines and license revocation. Like that guy above who is just realizing there are going to be legal fees etc in connection with being arrested, So they're having these "private" chats to frantically see what to do (some of these idiots have their families with them) but keep getting interrupted by #RamRanchResistance playing the tune. As they sang in ANNIE, "It's A Hard Knock Life".

Meanwhile, my new "pal" SnickerPie, who was tossed from YouTube, is now on Odysee. She was the genius who ran video of multiple streams of the protests. She'd comment stupid and irrelevant things. She was running New Zealand and Canberra for a bit. Now that there aren't many protests, she's devoted to running the "mock fake grand jury COVID trial" we talked about a while back with the international dead-enders.

Retrieving cash thru ATM machines is no way a "run on the banks". ATM machines have a limited stash of banknotes, depending on location to fill the need from a day to a week. So of course machines run empty at the most frequented locations when protesters lose their common sense.

In addition cards have usually a retrieval limit to prevent that an account owner gets stripped of their savings in case of theft. Using up the daily allowance to the full over subsequent days may also trigger fraud detection algorithms and block cards. Not receiving cash does not mean the bank has run out of funds.

When retrieving large amount of cash at a bank branch the teller will warn the of a theft risk, wait for protesters to get mugged. How many protesters will be near their home branch to close their accounts?

Fun fact: should protesters use a credit cards to retrieve cash they will be punished with retrieval fees.
