Currently 18F here but we will be going up to a high today of a balmy 19F before dropping to 8F tonight and 4 F tomorrow night. Hope the natural gas and electricity providers can handle this. :?

Good grief, V.

I'm not even telling you how lovely it's going to be in North Rawly today. I'll just say, I'm going to be working on the back porch re-screening job for the first time in weeks. I'm doing one panel at a time, probably do two today. Gotta finish each one by the end of the day so cats can use the porch without getting out and without other small enigmals sneaking in. The squirrels in particular love to prance around outside the back porch and rile up the cats.

In this house, if we had weather like you're having, we'd be DROWNING IN HOT CHONKLIT, yay!
The more I learn about this planet, the more improbable it all seems. :confuzzled:

Ice and snow are on central Arkansas roads. No getting out today UNLESS you are my brother or husband. Each MUST drive when road conditions are at their worst.

Our younger daughter and her husband have lost power in Dallas. :(

So far only about 70,000 have lost power in Texas. That may change when the temperatures drop into the single digits tonight. :?

Currently 18F here which may be the high for today.

Texas National Guard Members Mobilized in Response to Winter Weather

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/texas ... t_DFWBrand
The Texas Military Department said guardsmen will support the Texas Division of Emergency Management and work in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide assistance to first responders as needed.

Thousands of Texas Guardsmen will also continue to protect the Texas-Mexico border in support of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Operation Lone Star amid the winter weather event, the Texas Military Department said.

According to the Texas Military Department, all service members who are working on the front lines and are exposed to the elements have been issued cold-weather gear ahead of the winter storm.

This gear, along with high-mobility multi-purpose vehicles equipped with heaters, will ensure that service members at security points along the Texas-Mexico border will be able to keep warm throughout the winter weather event, the Texas Military Department said.

So the ice under the snow has made it harder and slower to clear the highways. For those not in Texas an FM is a farm to market road.

City of Wichita Falls, Texas Government

Road conditions in the city still remain treacherous. The Streets Department has cleared much of the snow from streets and is now spreading a traction mix in intersections and on hills in the city. If you do not need to drive, stay off the roads.

The Transfer Station and Landfill will be closed on Saturday February 5, 2022. Officials are hoping to be able to open up both facilities by Monday.
All flights in and out of Wichita Falls Municipal Airport are canceled today.

FallsRide bus services are not running any routes today.

Wichita Falls City offices are closed. Only emergency personnel are working.

Of course this respite of almost above freezing temperatures is only temporary. Going down to 9F tonight so that anything that melts today but doesn't evaporate will freeze solid. TxDOT still showing all roadways for miles around to be hazardous.

Won't get 24 hours above freezing until the middle of next week.

Santa Fe HS shooting suspect recommitted to mental health facility for up to another 12 months
Dimitrios Pagourtzis is accused of killing 10 people and injuring 13 others in May 2018 when he was just 17 years old.

https://abc13.com/santa-fe-high-school- ... ce=twitter
Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the student accused of the deadly 2018 shooting at Santa Fe High School, has been re-committed to a mental health facility for up to an additional year.

Almost exactly one year ago, a similar decision was made to keep Pagourtzis in a facility for 12 months.

:snippity:

Galveston County Criminal District Attorney Jack Roady said in a statement to ABC13 that the North Texas State Hospital reported that Pagourtzis "has not been restored to competency to stand trial" and requested the extension "so that they can continue their efforts to restore him to competency. This was obviously not the news we wanted to hear, and we share the families' frustration in the continued delay."
This was discussed on Fogbow 1.0 when the shootings happened. It is now a Texoma story because the North Texas State Hospital is in our city. It is where we got our first two Covid vaccine shots. I did not know he was here.
