That's from my mothers favorite episode when he says to Alice, "I’m the king and you’re nothing."
She replies, "Well, then, that would make you the king of nothing."

The Honeymooners would never make it on the air today. Ralph was constantly threatening Alice with physical abuse ("To the moon, Alice, to the moon!"), even though we knew he never would. For all his bluster, Ralph was a big softy, who was madly in love with Alice.

I didn't know that Ralph never meant he would harm Alice. He scared me. I couldn't understand why my parents laughed. They said Ralph loved her. Then why was he threatening her? Why didn't he say something funny like "stop that or I'll tickle you?" That show creeped me out.

Yeah, but as I remember it, he wouldn't dare to hurt her. Part of the shtick was that he would try to be scary and intimidating, but she never showed the least bit of fear, and the audience was supposed to realize how weak he really was, because he never did scare her for a moment.

"I'm the king, and you're nothing!," he'd shout.

And she'd look at him, deadpan: "OK, you're the king of nothing."

We got outside,

I watched the whole thing and so enjoyed it. Thank you for posting this. I always thought Arlene Frances was oh so lovely. This was a real treat.

The "Laugh-In" post made me go looking for "The Smothers Brothers" - two of may all time favorite shows.

I found this doco about the show - 18 seconds in I see Steve Martin! All this time I didn't know that Steve Martin was involved with the Smothers Brothers.

Has everybody heard about the bird?

Tommy: I've been reading up on this theory about clothes and power.
Dickie: What it that?
Tommy: Well, it means that how much power you have you can wear more or less clothes.
Dickie: OK, so if you are rich you have a lot of clothes on, and if you are poor...
Tommy: Those are the 'less-ons'.
Dickie: And those who are running the country...
Tommy: Those are the 'more-ons'.
