Minnesota hotelier Jim Graves announced Thursday that he will seek a rematch against the four-term House Republican. Graves lost by just a single point in their 2012 matchup, and national Democrats are in turn expected to expend far more resources there than last cycle.Bachmann sought the Republican nomination for president in 2011 but dropped out after a sixth-place finish in the Iowa caucuses. Her time on the road likely hurt the congresswoman in her first re-election after redistricting.Since squeaking out a victory in November, Bachmann has shunned the cable TV spotlight that made her a national figure. Local Republicans — and Democrats — have noticed her new low profile and renewed focus on the concerns of the district.[/break1]rollcall.com/minnesota-graves-all-in-for-rematch-with-bachmann/]http://atr.rollcall.com/minnesota-grave ... -bachmann/2012 MN-06 election results:[/break1]photobucket.com/user/Joseph_Robidoux_III/media/Politics/USHouseMN-062012-11-14_zpsd83c0295.jpg.html]http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... 3c0295.jpg[/break1]sos.state.mn.us/ENR/Results/CongressionalResults/1?id=561]http://electionresults.sos.state.mn.us/ ... s/1?id=561The MN-06 race wasn't expected to be as close as it ended up being. Redistricting was believed to favor Republicans in the new 6th. Hopefully the DNC will help Graves a little more than they did in 2012.

Since Michele decided to open her mouth at CPAC, and as usual, crazy fell out, it seems that she's going to start pushing herself back into the spotlight. She can't help it. Of course, all those news reports about her campaign ... ethics ... aren't helping. -xx

Congresswoman Crazy (R-MN 06) has purchased $85,000 worth of TV time for her political ads, 17 months prior to election day. It's possible she remembers how close her 2012 election was (Bachmann won re-election by less than 4300 votes) in a redrawn congressional district that was supposedly more favorable to Republicans than her previous district.[/break1]politico.com/story/2013/05/michele-bachmann-launches-tv-ads-17-months-before-election-91510.html?hp=r11]http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/m ... tml?hp=r11[/break1]sos.state.mn.us/Results/USRepresentative/1?officeinelectionid=8&districtid=561]http://minnesotaelectionresults.sos.sta ... rictid=561

The people running the anti-gay-marriage campaign must have unmuzzled her now that they lost. Minnesota's most famous homophobe was noticeably absent from their campaign. I think they decided that she was too divisive and would drive away swing voters so they asked her to STFU.

Congresswoman Crazy may be feeling some heat already. She is "interesting" when under stress. With Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann facing a widening campaign finance probe, her Democratic challenger is out with a new poll showing him in a close race with the conservative firebrand. The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling and obtained by POLITICO, shows Democrat Jim Graves leading Bachmann, a four-term congresswoman and former GOP presidential candidate, 47 percent to 45 percent. The results are within the poll’s 4.4 percentage point margin of error.Bachmann is taking the Graves rematch seriously. Last week, she began running TV ads — an unusually early point in the election cycle for a House member to begin doing so. The commercials highlight her role in introducing a bill to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care law.The Public Policy Polling survey of 500 voters was conducted May 15, just before Bachmann’s commercials began airing.[/break1]politico.com/story/2013/05/poll-michele-bachmann-in-for-tight-fight-91604.html?hp=l7]http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/p ... html?hp=l7

Time to change the thread title.ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann announced Wednesday that her fourth term in Congress will be her last, choosing to leave on her own terms after a dismal 18 months in which her presidential bid collapsed and she barely managed to retain her House seat.[/break1]ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_BACHMANN?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-05-29-17-42-50]http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/ ... 9-17-42-50I'm going to miss having her around. Oh well, there's still the congresscritter from northwest Iowa. He never disappoints for comedy.OTOH it's very nice to know she will never again be elected to public office.

It really hasn't been that long since she won the Iowa straw poll. Aug. 13, 2011, to be exact. Top of the world, Ma. She was a contendah, back in them days. I was hoping like heck she'd win a few primaries. As we can see from her legislative record, not a serious threat to accomplish any of her whackjob goals. But on the whole, I'd rather be rid of Issa and Cantor.

From [link]MinnPost,http://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy ... trict-race[/link]:

With Bachmann not running, Jim Graves pulls out of 6th District race

As of today, Jim Graves is going to indefinitely suspend his campaign for Congress from the 6th District.

Translation: He is not running. He is dropping out of politics to concentrate on his family and his business.

‘Mission Accomplished’

“Basically, after all that’s gone on, and with Michele Bachmann now stepping down, I’ve been talking to my friends and family and frankly, the feeling is, ‘Mission Accomplished.’ She wasn’t representing the people of the 6th District appropriately, and now she won’t be representing them. There’s no way anyone could run and win who would be worse than Michele Bachmann. So we accomplished that task.”

[...]

I asked Graves if he was claiming credit for ending Bachmann’s political career, but he demurred. “I don’t know everything that went into her decision,” he said. “Clearly, it was going to be a competitive race. All through Memorial Day weekend, she was in the district, working the crowds. Obviously something happened to cause her to believe that she shouldn’t run again. We’re very happy she dropped out. The country can do better.”With Graves out, there's almost no chance that a Democrat can take this seat. Ugh. I hope the Minnesota GOP, which is rudderless right now, nominates a sane candidate.

"Mission Accomplished"?Where have I seen that before....hmmmmm last time - found out it wasn't accomplished... Mebbe he needs to find another cliche to cover his tracks. Heck, it may cost him quite a bit less for this run than the last one.

The Cook Political Report has the MN-6 race listed as "solid Republican." They don't even see it as competitive. It's too bad Bachmann didn't stay in the race. She would have sucked up a lot of GOP resources to keep her seat, and could very well have lost to Jim Graves anyway. The frontrunner to replace her is Tom Emmer. He ran against Mark Dayton for governor in 2010. He's a teabagger who beat out several sane Republicans in the gubernatorial primary. This was one of the races that year that could have been wins for Republicans if they had nominated a more mainstream candidate. In addition to losing the race, he wasted a lot of GOP money in challenging the election results in an ill-advised recount. This is the cause of many of the MnGOP's current financial problems. Emmer is perhaps best-known for calling for the minimum wage to be reduced for restaurant waitstaff because they make so much money in tips. (See 2010 TPM article, [link]MN GOP’s Emmer: Cut Minimum Wage For Waiters,http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010 ... aiters.php[/link]) After Emmer announced his candidacy in June, Talking Points Memo wrote an article reminding people of his wingnuttery, [link]Can Tom Emmer’s Comeback Top His Epic 2010 Run?,http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013 ... didate.php[/link].
