What a bunch of bullcrap. I already said that you can't take the average Catholic to task for abuse by Priests. What the hell can he or she do about it? I do not, and never have, lumped all Catholics together. I don't blame the majority for the failings of the minority one damn bit.

That's what we have in the gun problem. Millions of us have lobbied, donated, voted, and so on-- exercised everything we could possibly do as individuals-- to stop the gun insanity. We such individuals are not to be blamed for the gun problem, not one damn bit.

You underestimate the determination and clout of those working against us, and don't you consider the goddamn 2nd Amendment, wherein conservative Justices have pretty much focused on the "right to keep and bear arms" part and ignored the"well-regulated" part, even while claiming the wording of the Constitution is very exact, that the Founders didn't say anything they didn't consider important.

So you can stick that "you could do something about the guns" statement where the sun don't shine. MILLIONS OF US HAVE FUCKING TRIED.

Early in Florida’s vaccine rollout, during a period marked by confusion and images of seniors in long lines desperate for a shot, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office devised a pitch to air a more flattering view. In mid-January, his staff took the idea to Fox News.

The timing was perfect. Producers for Fox & Friends, the network’s top-rated cable morning news show, were already inquiring about DeSantis’ availability.

A plan came together in a flurry of emails and phone calls over several days. DeSantis’ team provided a senior, a location and the talking points. Fox News would bring the cameras and its audience. No other media would be allowed in.
Do read the whole thing. Lots to unpack there.

So Fox News has chosen trumps replacement. I wonder how trump feels about that. Never mind. Fuck all of them.

`The one name that was not mentioned in all of that is Rupert Murdoch. Lots of politicians who want to lead their countries have made the pilgrimage to see Murdoch. There was nothing in there about any contact between DeSantis and Rupert.

If Rupert has decided DeSantis is the man, he will be the man, and it's where people should be looking, not the stupid parrots in front of the screen.

The CC has instituted reforms to deal with child safety. Its also apologized a zillion times and commissioned reports on how extensive the problem lies, and dioceses have been driven to bankrupcy by the cost of lawsuits.
What reforms are you speaking of? I think the CC still doesn't permit their priests to marry and have a family. What do you think that attracts?

DeSantis is in fact Catholic, but he doesn't follow the church in things like the death penalty because he likes killing people.

Well, here in the USA we call them Cafeteria Catholics -- picking and choosing from which stuff they want to put on their tray and ignore the other stuff.

Back on topic.

That was a good, but scary, article. I wonder what the former guy thinks of this.

Fucking horrible. Four teachers in the same district died of Covid within 24 hours. Maybe it was 48 hours.

Considering most Pedos are married and there is just as much abuse recorded among clergy who can get married, not the type you want to be attracted.

Six Myths About Clergy Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church

1. Catholic clergy aren't more likely to abuse children than other clergy or men in general.

2. Clergy sexual abuse in the Catholic Church can't be blamed on celibacy. Not having sex doesn't make children the object of one's desire.

3. Clergy sexual abuse in the Catholic Church can't be blamed on homosexuality.

4. Clergy sexual abuse in the Catholic Church can't be blamed on an all-male clergy.

5. Almost all of clergy sexual abuse cases in the Catholic Church that we hear about in the news are from decades ago (usually the 1960s and 70s).

6. Most clergy sex offenders aren't pedophiles.

Indeed. I suppose we hoped that "teachers" would be better informed/smarter/less Trumpy than the population of a given area. Not so, I guess. Sadly.

Go start a Catholic Church thread unless we're talking about DeSantis being Catholic.

Speaking of Catholicism and Florida and DeSantis, and keeping on topic, I had forgotten all about Ave Maria, Florida, specifically AMU. Here is their newest press release to students, faculty and parents. This might not turn out well.

"On June 16, 2021, Ave Maria University announced the following COVID-19 protocols for returning to campus for the fall semester.

Students will NOT be required to have a test or vaccination for COVID-19 in order to attend AMU in the fall.
This also extends to our faculty and staff. We are not requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone to work at AMU. In fact, Florida Governor Ron Desantis signed an Executive Order in April (2021) prohibiting businesses from requiring such passports.
Unlike last year, there will be no testing protocols before students enter the dorms. Athletes are scheduled to arrive on August 7, new students on August 19, and returning students on August 21.
If a student has a vulnerable health condition and a mask is necessary, they are certainly welcome to wear one, but masks will not be required in any of our classrooms or social settings.
All classroom settings will return to their original locations. If you recall, in a conscious effort to help thwart the potential spread of COVID-19, we moved some classes to larger, or even outdoor settings.
Hand sanitizing stations will remain simply to help minimize the risk of a future outbreak of COVID-19 or Influenza. It’s also good hygiene.
And finally, AMU reserves the right to return to the previous Health Safety Plan should an outbreak occur. "

Teachers are not necessarily better informed. A Facebook friend, a teacher, posted last night about how after the Korean War, Korea was broken up with South Korea being capitalist and North Korea being socialist. I can't get the utter stupidity of that out of my head. :brickwallsmall:  :crying:
