I was doing a NYT Crossword last week (not the Sunday) and a clue was _____ Basil of "Mickey" 80s song (or something like that)
Dammit NYT. Thanks for the earworm.
However, I like to share my pain.

Ahhh yes, Rob Zombies' tribute to Blade Runner, which I didn't know our own Herr Dick Tater was a fan of...
Damn fine song, but my fav from him is this...
"He sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see, He tries to tell me what I put inside of me
He's got the answers to ease my curiosity, He dreamed a god up and called it Christianity"

The Dead Zombie Girl power guitar riff sounds a lot like Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself.Frater I*I wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 9:48 pm

11 wasn't enough.
So, that first one is new to me. Didn't know he had a transcendental phase. Cerebral. It can take you places. The second is a classic. Thanks for both.

Well, much of what he did after Santana III could be said to be 'transcendental', but his work with and influenced by Alice Coltrane (yes, John's Widow) was quite focused.
"Devadip" was the name given to Carlos Santana by guru Sri Chinmoy. The name means "The lamp, light and eye of God". I believe Sri Chinmoy also named Alice Coltrane "Turiya" and John McLaughlin "Mahavishnu".
Devadip Carlos Santana and Turiya Alice Coltrane: Illuminations
Devadip Carlos Santana: The Swing Of Delight
Devadip Carlos Santana: Oneness (Silver Dreams Golden Reality)
I doubt you need any introduction to Devadip and Mahavishnu on their "Love Devotion Surrender" work.

Thanks for the explanation Keith. Super. I am going to claim ignorance about Love Devotion Surrender. I heard it for the first time when you posted it above. It's not my kettle of fish, though I won't rush to turn it off if it's within my sphere. There's plenty of noise goin between these earballs. Might be too late to seek tranquility, or maybe it's too early.keith wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 1:54 am Well, much of what he did after Santana III could be said to be 'transcendental', but his work with and influenced by Alice Coltrane (yes, John's Widow) was quite focused.

Spent some time listening to a country station that played everything including Loretta. Great pedal steel and saloon piano.

It is a tribute to John Coltrane. Wikipedia has a good discussion.

That sent me searching for this. I l-o-v-e-d this song. I'd pick up the needle and drop it back down to play it over.
(I stepped outside for a smoke and could hear this through the kitchen window. Sounded like an old hippie's house. Time to break out the patchouli oil.)

Compare and contrast Joni's original version and the latest cover above. I always thought Joni should have slowed it down. But what do I know. The song was a hit in it's day as it was.
