Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance will face off next month in the only scheduled U.S. vice presidential debate, a chance for each man to reinforce his running mate's message to voters just weeks before the Nov. 5 election.
Here are some details about the event:

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE DEBATE?

The 90-minute debate, hosted by CBS News, will take place on Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. ET (0100 GMT on Oct. 2) in New York City, a Democratic stronghold that is the former home of Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate running against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

WHO ARE THE MODERATORS?

The debate will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center and be moderated by CBS "Evening News" anchor Norah O'Donnell and "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan.

HOW CAN YOU WATCH THE DEBATE?

The event will be broadcast on the CBS network and live streamed on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+ are available. CBS said it will also be made available to simulcast.

WHAT ARE THE GROUND RULES?

The ground rules for the debate are not yet public. At the September presidential debate, the candidates' microphones were muted when it was not their turn to speak, and there was no studio audience.

I was wondering why CBC was doing a debate for those people down south, although given the amount of input the likes of the Guardian/Daily Mail create on US affairs, one can imagine the Canadians might have a go. Plus they might choose a really impartial host.

But no it was CBS.

For non-USAians: how good do you expect those moderators to be? Will it degenerate into a Vance nut-fest? Or will it remain civilized and coherent?

I'm just gonna take a wild ass guess and say Walz will be jovial every dad and Vance will be patronizing, sniveling little prick in his mini-me Trump uniform.

But I don't think he'll embarrass himself by yelling they're eating the dogs!!

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's preparation for the Oct. 1 vice presidential debate with Sen. JD Vance is well underway, sources familiar with the process have confirmed to ABC News.

He's already held some mock debates, sources said, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, in his personal capacity, acting as a Vance stand-in, and held policy sessions with his own longtime aides, Biden White House alumni and members of the Harris-Walz campaign team.

Buttigieg was in Minneapolis as recently as Wednesday to help him prepare. Walz has also been practicing on the road as he campaigns.

Biden White House alumni Rob Friedlander and Zayn Siddique are running the preparations. Siddique, who is currently an attorney at the firm Paul Weiss and served as senior adviser to Bruce Reed, the White House deputy chief of staff under President Joe Biden, has also been part of the vice president's debate preparations.

I remember back when Walz was brought onboard that he said that debating was not one of his strengths. However, I doubt he had top level assistance preparing for his previous debates. I have faith that Walz will study hard and take this to heart. I wonder if Vance will underestimate Walz. I think Vance has a high opinion of himself. But I've never watched Vance debate, so I dunno.

It seems that most national politics happen outside Minnesota, so it's just funny when I see folks commenting on Twitter that they've seen Pete Buttigieg in Minneapolis. Yeah... he's helping prepare Gov Walz for the upcoming debate. Right now Buttigieg and Walz are two of my favorite Democrats.
