I am having visions of the Trump campaign spending large amounts of money paying people to attend his rallies. It would be funny if some of them could sneak in foldable signs that say "PAID TO BE HERE".

Apparently the Republicans are trying to smear Walz by saying that he quit the National Guard when he found out he would be going to Iraq and that he did NOT achieve the rank of command sergeant major. VoteVets sets the record straight. By the way, according to Military.com "He reached the rank of command sergeant major and served in that role, but he officially retired as a master sergeant for benefits purposes because he didn't finish a required training course, according to the records and a statement from the Minnesota Guard." ETA: Terry Lakin could have put in for retirement instead of refusing to deploy to Afghanistan (or wherever) and he’d still have his pension.

Almost immediately after Kamala Harris announced her running mate as Tim Walz, people on social media began dream-casting Steve Martin to play the role on “Saturday Night Live.” Martin not only bears a physical resemblance to the Minnesota governor but also gives off the same friendly dad vibe.

The next morning, Lorne Michaels apparently called Martin with an offer, which Martin unfortunately declined.

“I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no,” Martin told the Los Angeles Times. “I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.’ I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.”

Also keep in mind Martin is near 80 (2026).
