The dude is still lying, as Biden said nothing about pipes in homes.

The upgrade to water systems will be paid for like almost every other infrastructure project, i.e., government deficit spending.

The republic-not-a-democracy crowd has lost the plot. Again.
The proposed rule explicitly allows the homeowner to refuse a lead service replacement if they have joint ownership and the water utility chooses not to pay for the customer side. On the other hand, if the homeowner chooses to replace their side of the service, the utility is required to replace the utility side within 45 (so long as they are notified within three months of the replacement). Utilities only have to do 3% replacement per annum (but they have to be full replacements) unless the state (oh snap!) requires more.

A realtor on twitter (or claiming to be one) said a client got $28,000 assistance to replace lead pipes in a house they bought. I don't have a problem with that.

Every time there's something like the SOTU, the Republican Party starts spamming me again.

Last night, I watched some episodes of Godfather: Gotti and Son on the Crime + Investigation channel. They discussed how many folks viewed Gotti as a hero and supported him during his incarceration, with 300+ attending his funeral procession. Gotti was a mobster and a murderer, yet he had a following of fans, some of whom were not supporters of the mob. When I thought of it, Jesse James is also seen by some as a hero.

Charismatic people and folks who appear to "stick it to the man" seem to get hero status despite what ugly actions they commit. People are strange.

Not that long ago, he quoted and praised a convicted mobster, one of the big ones with murder convictions. Of course, I can't remember who.

0 days since Tuberville isn't a jerk/an embarrassment. Joined by other RWNJ state legislators.
Several Alabama politicians say they are concerned about children’s safety at Huntsville’s Space Camp after a parent complained about the presence of a transgender employee.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Reps. Dale Strong and Robert Aderholt posted statements on X, formerly known as Twitter, after a parent posted on Facebook complaining about the gender identity of one of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center employees. The topic was also picked up by the Libs of TikTok account.

And when shit like this happens I have to dig out all my contact info for available help for our PFLAG page and other places I post stuff. Ugh.

But, hey, it's crickets from that gang when this happens:

The leader of a local Young Republicans chapter in Alabama was arrested last week in connection with the death of another man, with charges against him including a count of "sexual torture."
On Thursday, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office discovered a dead body later identified as 54-year-old Derek Franklin Walls of Harvest, Alabama, after being called to a home on the 1700 block of Capshaw Road. Later that same day, it was announced that deputies had arrested 36-year-old Kyle Hayden Lewter in connection with Walls' death.
Aside: Madison County is also where Space Camp is located.

I made some phone calls today.

The older gentleman I talked to said it wasn't their thing and they shut it down as soon as it happened.

I ripped him a new one.

I said he should be ashamed to be in that office right now. He said he was a proud republican. I said well the fact that you support an adjudicated rapist and had no problem with this explained a lot.

I also called my KS rep and senator. We had wonderful conversation.

I guess this thread is as good as any to post this -

Kristi Noem faces lawsuit and toothy questions over her viral endorsement of Texas dentists
Gov. Kristi Noem is facing legal action after her latest endorsement caused an online furor that now risks taking a bite out of her standing in South Dakota at a time when she’s rumored to be among the front-runners on Donald Trump’s vice presidential shortlist.

Nearly 48 hours after she posted an uncanny, infomercial-style testimonial video – running nearly five minutes – in praise of the deluxe work she received at Smile Texas, a Houston-area cosmetic dentistry firm, Noem and her political team have not responded to questions over why she traveled so far for the procedure and whether the clip, which features images of her speaking at a political rally, was used to pay or defray from the cost of the work.

Noem is also facing a new lawsuit, filed by the consumer advocacy group Travelers United, accusing Noem of doing an “undisclosed advertisement” for Smile Texas.

“There are many dentists and cosmetic dentists in South Dakota,” the lawsuit claims, adding, “No one with an extremely important job in the South Dakota would fly to Texas to receive dental treatment and then sit in that office and film an advertisement without some form of compensation.”
More at the link above. The lawsuit here -

And today, she posts another video endorsing a store where she got some shoe inserts. At least this business was in her home state. I can't even begin to fathom the thought process behind deciding to do this not just once but again after she's been served with a lawsuit for the first one.

The thought process would be fairly obvious if she were somehow getting financial benefits from doing this -- that's just straight-up corruption. But if she's not getting paid, I can't figure out why she would do something that would piss off so many people for no understandable benefit. For one thing, if I were a competitor of the shoe store that she shilled for in this most recent video, I'd be pissed that she appears to be endorsing my competition. If she were to say, "I want to encourage more businesses to move to South Dakota. I'm here with the owner of Fit My Feet in Rapid City, a local business with friendly, knowledgeable staff. It's one of dozens of great family-owned businesses in Rapid City, which is just one of the great places to set up your business." That's a generic industrial development pitch. But to plug a specific product and specific store? I'm just speechless.

Ha Ha! Pornhub says "No Porn For You Texas!"

Pornhub suspends site in Texas due to state’s age-verification law.
Legal experts say a 5th Circuit decision to uphold part of a Texas law regulating adult entertainment websites conflicts with U.S. Supreme Court precedent regarding minors’ access to obscene material online

Florida is going to be so pissed Texas got there first. It would be interesting to see the usage stats for TX. The Cancel Culture marches on.
