In short: Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate have been detained in Romania and handed an arrest warrant issued by UK authorities.
The UK arrest warrant relates to allegations of sexual aggression in a case dating back to 2012-2015, Mr Tate's spokesperson Mateea Petrescu says.

What's next? Ms Petrescu says the Bucharest Court of Appeal is set to make a "pivotal decision" on whether to execute the warrants issued by a UK court.

In short: A court has ruled Andrew Tate and his brother can be extradited to the UK, where authorities have obtained an international arrest warrant for them.
The warrant is linked to allegations of sexual aggression dating from 2012 to 2015, Mr Tate's spokesperson Mateea Petrescu says.

What's next? The Bucharest Court of Appeal has approved the UK's request to extradite the siblings, but ruled they can only be sent after a separate criminal trial in Romania has finished.

From the story

After their arrest in Romania, the Tate brothers were held for three months in police detention before being moved to house arrest. They were later restricted to the areas of Bucharest Municipality and nearby Ilfov County.

Currently, they cannot leave Romania. The legal case in Romania is still being discussed in the preliminary chamber stages, a process in which the defendants can challenge prosecutors' evidence.

No trial date has been set, with Romanian courts backlogged.

In January, Mr Tate won an appeal challenging the seizure of his assets by Romanian authorities, which were confiscated in the weeks after he was arrested.

Romanian authorities had seized 15 luxury cars, 14 designer watches and cash in several currencies worth an estimated 3.6 million euros ($5.9 million).

Rob Schneider Roasted for Saying He’d ‘Absolutely’ Sacrifice His Career for His Right-Wing Political Beliefs

Fans are asking just one question on Twitter: what career?

Image
Following up on this one...

I've said many times that Rob Schneider would be living out of his car if it weren't for his friendship with Adam Sandler, who gives him small "mercy parts" in a lot of his movies.

There's a report out today that Schneider is trying to topple Roseanne Barr as the most offensive wing-nut washed-up comedian. Apparently, he did a set at a GOP fundraiser sometime late last year that was so offensive that the host shut him down and threw him out.

https://www.joemygod.com/2024/04/cultis ... ate-jokes/ and others are carrying the story.

Bear in mind as well that Schneider's daughter is the singer Elle King, the one who was rip-roaring drunk on stage at the Grand Ole Opry's Dolly Parton Tribute show and mangled the words to the song she was singing and then cursed on stage about being 'f*cking hammered'.

It made me sad because I used to enjoy her performance energy very much -- her guest-turn on a webcast of Live from Darryl's House some years back, jamming with Darryl Hall of Hall & Oats, was in a favored playlist of mine -- and I took some comfort from the fact that she since apologized to the fans and personally to Dolly and Dolly has publicly been gracious about it, but her initial tone was a very defensive 'well pardon me for being human', and those are the reflexes which tell me that the old saw about apples, gravity, and trees are not off the mark.

In short: Influencer Andrew Tate's trial on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang can start, a Romanian court has ruled.
Tate, his brother and two Romanian women were arrested in December 2022 near Bucharest.
What's next? The court has set no trial date yet and Tate's legal team has appealed the ruling.

Idaho drag performer awarded $1.1 million in defamation suit against blogger
A blogger posted a doctored video of Eric Posey on Facebook in 2022 and falsely claimed he exposed his genitals to a crowd that included children.

An Idaho drag performer received more than a $1 million in damages in a defamation suit against a blogger who falsely claimed the performer exposed himself to a crowd that included children, according to an attorney for the performer.

A jury on Friday ruled that Summer Bushnell defamed Eric Posey by posting on Facebook a doctored video of Posey performing at a Pride event in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 2022, and falsely telling her followers that Posey flashed his genitals, according to the attorney, Wendy J. Olson.

The jury awarded Posey $926,000 in compensatory damages for defamation and an additional $250,000 for punitive damages, which were based on the argument that Bushnell knew her claims were false when she made them, Olson said.

"Mr. Posey's life was forever changed when Summer Bushnell falsely accused him of a crime," Olson said in a statement. "The jury's unanimous verdict and its award of $1.176 million in damages sends the clear message that truth matters, that facts matter and that you can't dehumanize and damage someone to suit your own purposes."

An attorney for Bushnell did not immediately return a request for comment.

Posey, whose stage name is Mona Liza Million, sued Bushnell — who runs a local blog, "The Bushnell Report" — for defamation in September 2022, seeking damages that exceeded $10,000 and attorneys’ fees.

The lawsuit stemmed from a performance Posey gave at the Coeur d’Alene Pride event, called Pride in the Park, on June 11, 2022.

A day after the performance, Bushnell posted a doctored video of Posey dancing on stage to her blog's Facebook account, according to the complaint. The video blurred out the area around Bushnell's genitals and included false statements that Posey exposed himself, according to a screenshot of the video in the suit.

“Can this guy be arrested for exposing his genitals to minors?” Bushnell asked her followers in comments attached to the video, according to the suit.

Posey never removed any articles of clothing throughout his three performances that day, the complaint states. He was wearing a leotard, black shorts, underwear and tights, in addition to a metallic silver boa wrapped around his waist, it adds.

I am not suggesting that this story is posted in the wrong thread, but it does seem to also qualify to be posted in the "Happy Things" thread.

Good for him for suing. I love it when juries take their job seriously and decide a case on evidence regardless of what the probable attitudes are concerning some of the underlying issues. At least one of the jurors in Bragg's hush money/campaign interference case there was at least one juror that listed "Truth Social" as one of his most often visited site/place where you get your news. And he convicted Trump. As did the three known Trump supporters in E Jean Carroll's "first" case, where she was awarded somewhere around $92 million if I remember correctly.

A pair of Texas professors figured out that their female students have sex and, boy, they do not like it. So now the philosophy professor and finance professor are suing for the right to punish their students who, outside of class, have abortions.

"Pregnancy is not a disease, and elective abortions are not 'health care,'" University of Texas at Austin professor Daniel Bonevac sneers in a federal court filing with professor John Hatfield. Instead, Bonevac writes, because pregnancy is the result of "voluntary and consensual sexual intercourse," students should not be allowed time off to get abortions. If the students disobey and miss class for abortion care, the filing continues, the professors should be allowed to flunk students. Additionally, Bonevac asserts that he has a right to refuse to employ a teaching assistant who has had an abortion, calling such women "criminals.

This is UT Austin we're talking about. Are we sure they are not playing Devil's Advocate trying to demonstrate the absurdity of TX Law? As soon as pretty white Christian daughters start going to jail for assumed abortions, the citizenry are going to want some changes.

I think not, but I would like to be wrong.

I think it's what the story says, that these asshats "found out that their female students have sex and, boy, they do not like it." Or maybe more accurately, the ladies are having sex, but not with the professors.

And I think it's exactly the pretty white girls who will be prosecuted, because the point is to increase the white population ("the 14 words") by forcing pregnant white women to carry their babies to term. They don't really care if black women abort their babies. I think a good deal of this is motivated by race, especially in Texas where white people are now a minority, desperately scheming to retain political power by any means available. If that means putting a few pretty white ladies in prison to force the rest to have babies, that's gonna happen.

I expect them to start monitoring search histories and imprisoning pretty white ladies who are pregnant “to protect the child.”
