Gosar claims arthritis and two compressed vertebrae in his neck and lower back, in addition to complications from hip surgery. But- there is and has been widespread speculation he has Parkinson's or something similar. It's been going on quite awhile.

Thanks. I hadn't noticed before. But then, I avoid a lot of videos.

5 things to watch at this year’s CPAC

BY JULIA MANCHESTER -
02/21/24 6:00 AM ET

Conservative activists are gathering outside Washington for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this week.

The event, which is slated to take place Wednesday through Saturday, will feature leading GOP figures, including former President Trump, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Trump and his supporters have dominated the conference in recent years. This week, much of the attention will likely be on which potential vice-presidential pick will win the CPAC straw poll. Additionally, speakers could weigh in on several major issues, including abortion and future U.S. support for Ukraine.

Here are five things to watch ahead of this year’s CPAC:

and visiting from a Sovereign Nation ...
Britain’s ‘deep state’ thwarted my plans, Liz Truss tells US far-right summit
Former Conservative PM, whose tenure lasted 50 days, tells CPAC she fell victim to UK’s ‘establishment … its bureaucrats and lawyers’

David Smith in Oxon Hill, Maryland
Thu 22 Feb 2024 07.43 CET
ShareLiz Truss, the former British prime minister, spoke at a far-right conference in America on Wednesday, styling herself as a populist who took on America’s equivalent of the “deep state” in her own country.

Truss was among the headline speakers at this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference at the National Harbor in Maryland. CPAC is billed as the biggest annual gathering of conservatives in the US but has in recent years embraced Donald Trump’s brand of nativist-populism.

In Wednesday’s opening session, an “international summit”, the ex-PM sat side by side with Nigel Farage, former leader of the Brexit party, both with small union flags on the table in front of them.

Other speakers included Steve Bannon, a former White House chief strategist associated with global far-right nationalist movements, and Richard Grenell, a former acting director of national intelligence under Trump. Officials from countries including Australia, Hungary and Japan also took part.

A moderator at the summit introduced Truss by saying after her election in Britain “there was a collective cheer in the conservative movement in the United States saying, wow, Margaret Thatcher is back!”

Not for the first time Truss, whose premiership lasted only 50 days, sought to portray herself as the victim of bureaucratic forces. “I ran for office in 2022 because Britain wasn’t growing, the state wasn’t delivering, [and] we needed to do more,” she said. “I wanted to cut taxes, reduce the administrative state, take back control as people talked about in the Brexit referendum. What I did face was a huge establishment backlash and a lot of it actually came from the state itself.”

CPAC used to have overflow rooms. Anyway, guess this is why they decided to yank my media badge and demand money from me.
The embedded video in the tweet pans across the sparsely populated convention hall while a speaker is talking, so the video is obviously not taken between sessions.

‘Mentality of dictators’: Republican convert Tulsi Gabbard takes aim at former party at CPAC
Ex-Democratic congresswoman praised Trump and turned on former friend Biden, saying he would ‘crumble’ under pressure

David Smith in Oxon Hill, Maryland
Fri 23 Feb 2024 12.00 CET

Once a prominent backer of the leftwing senator Bernie Sanders, on Thursday she was greeted by far-right activists with a standing ovation and a group of supporters brandishing gold letters that spelled T-R-U-M-P.

Such is the journey of Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate who has an entire Wikipedia page devoted to her “political positions” and is now seen as a possible running mate for Donald Trump.

There are few better examples, critics say, of how the Trump era has scrambled the ideology not only of the Republican party but opportunists seeking media cachet and a book deal. Gabbard’s isolationist foreign policy views, disdain for “wokeness” and desire for attention from the rightwing ecosystem made her a natural headline speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at the National Harbor in Maryland.

“Today we see the Democrat elite leaders say, with great concern in their voice, that if the American people elect Donald Trump again, they warn us, he will destroy our democracy,” said Gabbard, 42, in a speech that portrayed Trump as a victim of political persecution and sounded like an audition for the vice-presidency.

“They say he will be the dictator-in-chief, that if he’s elected it will be the last election this country sees. It’s laughable. This is so crazy, it’s laughable. They’re justifying their actions by telling themselves that they need to destroy our democracy in order to save it. It’s lunacy and it’s the mindset and mentality of dictators. They are waging a multi-front battle and they will stop at nothing until they’re successful.”

The scene would have been unimaginable in 2012 when Gabbard, a military veteran, became the first Hindu elected to Congress, representing Hawaii’s second congressional district.

Over time the progressive rising star became an outspoken critic of Democratic party leadership. She once called Hillary Clinton the “embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic party for so long”.

In my view, the key CPAC story isn’t that right-wing influencer Jack Posebiec said, “Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely.”

The story is how many Republican lawmakers are absolutely silent about it.

Nazis mingle openly at CPAC, spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories and finding allies

Ben Goggin
Updated Sat, February 24, 2024 at 10:59 PM GMT+1·2 min read

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Nazis appeared to find a friendly reception at the Conservative Political Action Conference this year.

Throughout the conference, racist extremists, some of whom had secured official CPAC badges, openly mingled with conference attendees and espoused antisemitic conspiracy theories.

The presence of these individuals has been a persistent issue at CPAC. In previous years, conference organizers have ejected well-known Nazis and white supremacists such as Nick Fuentes.

But this year, racist conspiracy theorists didn’t meet any perceptible resistance at the conference where Donald Trump has been the keynote speaker since 2017.

At the Young Republican mixer Friday evening, a group of Nazis who openly identified as national socialists mingled with mainstream conservative personalities, including some from Turning Point USA, and discussed so-called “race science” and antisemitic conspiracy theories.

One member of the group, Greg Conte, who attended the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, said that his group showed up to talk to the media. He said that the group was prepared to be ejected if CPAC organizers were tipped off, but that never happened.

Another, Ryan Sanchez, who was previously part of the Nazi “Rise Above Movement,” took photos and videos of himself at the conference with an official badge and touted associations with Fuentes.

Other attendees in Sanchez’s company openly used the N-word.

For several years, CPAC and its supporters have attempted to temper the most extreme fringes of the conservative movement, and have welcomed the continued debate between Trump and more moderate conservatives.

This year, however, some attendees and former attendees have expressed frustration with the conference’s stronger association with Trump and his wing of the party.

Noem and Ramaswamy top CPAC straw poll on who should be Trump’s VP pick

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canad ... press.coop
Attendees at the annual gathering of right-wing activists, lobbyists and businesses - dominated in recent years by the Trump faithful - cast ballots in a straw poll for who should share the Republican ticket in November.

The results, which included 17 possible candidates, were announced on Saturday night:
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem - 15%
Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy - 15%
Former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard - 9%
New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik - 8%
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott - 8%
Florida congressman Byron Donalds - 7%

Five of the top six vote-getters addressed the Cpac audience on Thursday and Friday in what became a de facto auditioning session for the number-two nod. Mr Scott, considered to be one of the leading contenders, was campaigning for Mr Trump in his home state of South Carolina, which held its Republican primary on Saturday, and didn't make the trip to the convention.
