That's terrific. If the reports I have read on the value Twitter are true Elon and his backers have eaten about $25 billion on that deal (maybe more). Musk knew he was going to lose if the case went to trial.

But we lost Twitter and any prospect of it becoming a better managed and less hateful site. I do not regard that as a win.

Musk is still bouncing around, it hasn't stopped him.

Yes, even the entire $44 billion will not stop him but it's a good start. Unfortunately, none of the alternatives like Mastodon, Blue Sky, Post, or Threads IMO measure up yet. I kept my Twitter account but removed the app from all my devices. I was a fan of Tweetdeck but I'll be damned if I pay a dime to Fuck Face for it. I found an open source extension just this weekend that provides Tweetdeck functionality and seems to work on Chrome.

I do. Scroll down for the instructions:

https://github.com/dimdenGD/OldTweetDeck

You have to turn on developer mode in Chrome to use it.

I found an issue with running Tweetdeck. Now I am hitting my limit for viewing Tweets. I hate them.

I am not sure that would help much. I used it for a couple of days with no issues. This morning I noticed nothing was loading except my home, PM, and notification columns. I think the limit for non-subscribers is 500 tweet views. I can't believe I hit that early today. I only have 5 user columns on Tweet Deck. Maybe because I am using this "unofficial" Tweet Deck I got flagged as a bad guy. :confuzzled:

Well I am reading tweets again with the Old Tweet Deck extension. Let's see how long it last. I cannot understand why someone with the programming resources like Meta cannot come up with a live multi column version of Threads. It would make it so much more useful.

Edit: DOA again. Maybe it is a coincidence but Twitter died both times when I tried to search for a user to add a column. Appears Tweetdeck will not work with Elon's shameless grab for my money. :fingerwag:

My MIL passed away in July, and then last fall "Joyce" was supposed to be coming out to visit from the UK over Christmas. Then there were a bunch of excuses, and when we looked at her FB profile, it was an obvious fake. Don't think he's out for much more than a plane ticket, but we're going to keep a closer eye on things. (I think "she" tagged him via a legitimate hobby page, so he wasn't as careful as he might otherwise have been, but he was rather skeptical that she would actually show up, so even he picked up that something was off)
And he just posted that today he has hurt "two beautiful young women" that he "didn't mean to fall in love with." He hasn't accepted that these are fakes, but he has dumped both of them (I was not even aware of the second). I just ripped off the Band-Aid, though, and told him that these were not real people, that he had been targeted by some sick, twisted bastards, but then affirmed his pain and that we would stand by him and help him heal from this. He is in pain, and rightly so. :brokenheart:

I had a dear friend who lost his wife when he was in his late 70's. Even though two of his sons visited him at least weekly and he came into the law firm several times a week, it was not enough to prevent him from calling a young coworker repeatedly. He told me he called her because he was lonely. :brokenheart:

I deleted my regular Twitter account when musk got so obnoxious, but I did sign in through Google so I can click on links posted here. The last three times I’ve tried to do that, click on a Twitter link, the first thing that pops up is an ad for dildos. Now I’m not a prude but it’s kind of shocking. Is anyone else having this problem or am I just special?

(Before anyone asks, no, I have never watched any kind of pornographic content on Twitter not with the Google login or my old original account.)

I've made a habit of blocking every ad by clicking on the ••• on the ad, then blocking the account that posted it. I doubted doing so actually achieved anything, but it was satisfying, like popping bubble wrap.

It appears that enough people were doing the same thing to vex Elmo, though, so today I started seeing this when trying to block:

As is to be expected on Xitter these days, clicking the Maybe Later button does nothing, clicking the < button does nothing, the only actual options you have are clicking the Upgrade button, or closing out the tab. And if you click the upgrade button, your only options are to pay at least $16.00 to go ad free, scroll through other payment options that include ads, or, again, close out the tab.

That said, you can avoid Elmo's thin-skinned reaction by just clicking direct to the account posting the ad then blocking the account from there. Plus, it only takes 2 more clicks than the old way while, somehow, being even more satisfying.

Last week, Travis County District Court Judge Maria Cantú Hexsel issued an order requiring Musk to sit for a two-hour deposition to explain his actions. HuffPost obtained a copy of the order on Wednesday, which states Musk must testify before April 1 to answer questions, including Musk’s “state of mind at the time the alleged defamatory statement was allegedly published.”
He tried to get this dismissed, but nope.
