Speaking of teenagers and guns.......

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/15/nyre ... press.coop
A teenager was taken into custody on Thursday in connection with a shooting at a Bronx subway station earlier this week that killed one person and injured five others, a law enforcement official said.

The shooting took place during the afternoon rush hour on Monday at the Mount Eden Avenue subway station in the Bronx. It occurred after a fight broke out between two groups of teenagers on a northbound 4 train at 4:30 p.m.

When the train arrived at the station and people began filing off, someone fired a gun, the police said. The shooting continued as people frantically exited the train and ran for cover.

Obed Beltran-Sanchez, 35, was killed in the shooting. The injured ranged in age from 14 to 71, the police said.

Taylor Swift made two $50,000 donations to a GoFundMe for the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the woman killed in the mass shooting at a Super Bowl victory parade of the Kanas City Chiefs on Wednesday.

Lopez-Galvan, a beloved DJ in Kansas City, was celebrating the Chiefs’ victory with her husband, son and daughter, when she was fatally shot. Twenty-two others, including children at the parade, were injured.

“Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift,” the singer wrote.

A representative for Swift confirmed to CNN she made the donations.

The fund’s initial goal aimed to raise $75,000 to offer financial support to Lopez-Galvan’s family as they process the tragedy. As of Friday morning, more than $182,000 had been raised.

Why wouldn't she? Her boyfriend plays for the city's team, but that would not not mean she has any particular attachment or otherwise to the city itself or the Team in a wider context. She probably would have made sure her Boyfriend is ok and probably other people she met when she attended those games, but otherwise she should have no problems going to work for the evening.

Yeah, I've looked and they specifically have NOT released the ages yet. That said, I noticed that they've been referred to as "juveniles" and "teens", so I guess we're talking about 13-17?

Northridge shooting suspect found dead after hourslong search, police say

ByShayla Girardin KABC
Friday, February 16, 2024 10:16PM

NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An alleged tenant-landlord dispute at an apartment building in Northridge led to a shooting that left one woman hospitalized and the suspect dead, according to authorities.

The shooting was reported at 11:25 a.m. Friday in the 17000 block of Plummer Street, near Balboa Boulevard, where a woman in her 40s was found inside a car with gunshot wounds.

She was reportedly "in and out" of consciousness and was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition.

According to police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute about an eviction notice.

"It looks like it was some type of dispute regarding an eviction process," a police spokesperson told reporters at the scene Friday afternoon. "It was the suspect that was part of the eviction process, and sometime, there was some type of verbal dispute, and then that's when the incident occurred."

Frank Robinson, a resident, told Eyewitness News he had gone to the gym and when he returned to the scene, he was told he couldn't get into the apartment building.

"It's a senior retirement community, and everybody gets along and has fun, so it's a complete shock that somebody would actually shoot somebody here in the streets," he said.

A widespread search for the suspect lasted for several hours, with more than a dozen officers summoned to the scene. The suspect, who was described only as a woman in her 70s, was reportedly hiding in an apartment, according to authorities.

She was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot shortly after.

Breaking: 2 officers, 1 paramedic killed in Burnsville, Minnesota; suspect also dead

https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/ ... -responds/
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said it is investigating. The BCA did not say how the shooter died.

Gov. Tim Walz said authorities were "responding to a call of a family in danger." Dakota County dispatch said earlier authorities were responding to an "incident with weapons" in the area.

County dispatch provided few other details, but there was a significant law enforcement presence on the 12000 block of 33rd Avenue. A WCCO crew saw fire trucks, ambulances, police and SWAT vehicles at the scene. One of the SWAT vehicles had multiple bullet holes visible on its windshield.

Assuming the "first responder" was an EMT it's very surprising they would be in a position to be harmed. Did this happen in a small town? I've never heard of an ambulance approaching a scene until it was secured by the police and they were given the all-clear to move in. Even the FD here waits for clearance from the PD at an active scene, and any domestic call is considered an active scene until the cops arrive and say otherwise.

That's exactly right. When we responded to an active scene we staged at a safe distance until we were cleared to enter by dispatch as did the fire dept.

City identifies 2 officers, 1 paramedic killed in Burnsville, Minnesota; suspect also dead

By WCCO Staff, Marielle Mohs, Jason Rantala
Updated on: February 18, 2024 / 8:06 PM CST / CBS Minnesota

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Two police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in a Twin Cities suburb Sunday morning, authorities said, and the man who shot them is also dead.

Superintendent Drew Evans with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Burnsville police officers were called to a home at about 1:50 a.m. on 33rd Avenue South and East 126th Street, just west of the Interstate 35E-Highway 77 interchange.

A suspect inside was reported to be armed, and several people were barricaded inside, including seven young children ranging in age from 2 to 15.

Evans said law enforcement "spent quite a bit of time negotiating with this individual," before the suspect is said to have opened fire on officers.

Burnsville city officials identified the victims as officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth. Sgt. Adam Medlicott with BPD was also shot but is expected to survive.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was reported dead at about 8 a.m., and the family members in the home made it out safely a short time later.

Evans said details surrounding the timing and exchange of gunfire is not clear at this point in the investigation.

"A terrible day for the city of Burnsville, all of the residents," Evans said.

2 adults are charged with murder in the deadly shooting at Kansas City’s Super Bowl celebration

https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-super ... f766a0c407
Two men have been charged with murder in last week’s shooting that killed one person and injured 22 others after the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, Missouri prosecutors said Tuesday.

Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays are charged with second-degree murder and other counts. They have been hospitalized since the shooting, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said during a news conference. Officials declined to answer whether the men were being treated for gunshot wounds or other injuries.

Court records lay out a basic view of how the shooting unfolded.

The men did not know each other before the shooting, according to prosecutors. They were among several people arguing when Mays “pulled his handgun first almost immediately” and several others did the same, Peters Baker said. Police say it was Miller’s gun that fired the shot that killed a woman.

MO gun laws are insane. No permit required for concealed carry. Open carry for anyone, no age restriction. You can get a concealed carry permit if you want to have reciprocity in other states.

"Was Just Being Stupid": Kansas Super Bowl Parade Shooter To Cops

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/was-jus ... ps-5099556
According to a report, court documents released on Tuesday shed light on the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident. Both Miller and Mays, armed with guns, reportedly engaged in an argument with a group of individuals during the crowded celebration. A female friend of Mays revealed that the confrontation began when the opposing group questioned why Mays was looking at them.

Surveillance footage captured Mays approaching the group in an aggressive manner, pointing his finger at them. As tensions escalated, Mays pulled out his gun and started chasing an unarmed individual, firing shots. This prompted others in the vicinity to draw their weapons, creating a chaotic exchange of gunfire.

Mays, in a statement to the police, admitted to initiating the violence by pulling his gun first and firing. He claimed that the other individuals only started shooting after he had fired the initial shots.

"Stupid, man. Just pulled a gun out and started shooting. I shouldn't have done that. Just being stupid," Mays said.

However, it was Miller's gun that fired the fatal shot that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local DJ and mother of two. The incident resulted in a total of 22 people being wounded, including Mays, who was interviewed by the police in his hospital bed.
