Kansas City police say shots were fired west of Union Station, and "several people" were struck.

At least two armed people have been detained.

ABC News is reporting that there is one dead and nine injured in the shooting. Five were serious injuries and three are in critical condition.

KMBC's Matt Flener reports that five people are being brought to Truman Medical Center.

He reports that three ambulances were seen going into the Children's Mercy Hospital's emergency room.

A shooting near Kansas City’s Union Station on Wednesday left one person dead and at least 22 with gunshot wounds, turning a Super Bowl victory celebration into a scene of chaos as thousands of fans in red jerseys ran for safety.

Three people had been detained, the Kansas City police chief said at a news conference, adding that investigators had not identified a motive. She asked the public to provide any video or other information that could help the authorities determine what had happened.

Here’s what else to know:

Chief Stacey Graves of the Kansas City Police Department said one person was dead, and that investigators were still working to determine exactly how many people had been injured. At least two of the people in custody had been armed, the police said, and a third person had also been detained, the chief said.

Twelve people were taken to University Health, formerly Truman Medical Center, said Keith King, a hospital spokesman. Eight of them were being treated for gunshot wounds, he said, including two in critical condition. And one victim with a gunshot wound was in critical condition at Saint Luke’s Hospital, said Laurel Gifford, a hospital spokeswoman. Three other people walked in with injuries.

Children’s Mercy is treating 12 patients who attended the rally, Lisa Augustine, a hospital spokeswoman said. Of those 12 patients, 11 are children. Nine of the injured have gunshot wounds, Ms. Augustine said.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Johnson County mother of two and beloved disc jockey in Kansas City, was confirmed killed in the shooting at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade celebration Wednesday.

Police, as of a 5:30 p.m. press conference, only confirmed one death, making it unclear whether Lopez-Galvan is that individual or a another. An earlier version of this story had said that Lopez-Galvan was believed confirmed as a second victim.

Friends confirmed the death to The Star after talking to family. Lopez-Galvan is reported to have died during surgery at a hospital from a gunshot wound to her abdomen Wednesday afternoon.

It was just like any other Tuesday night. Lisa Lopez-Galvan was on air for her weekly radio show, “A Taste of Tejano,” sharing her love of music with her local community. The program features Tejano music, a “Tex-Mex” fusion of Mexican and American musical influences.

“Let us know if you have a birthday, anniversary or special announcement!” Lopez-Galvan wrote before her show, as she often did.

Once the show was over, she and her co-host, Tommy Andrade, parted ways — not knowing that it would be their last time together.

Lopez-Galvan’s life was cut short Wednesday afternoon, when a shooting took place at a rally after a parade marking the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl win, transforming a moment of joy and celebration into one of pain and loss.

Shooting at Kansas City Super Bowl Rally Probably Stemmed From Argument, Police Say

Stacey Graves, the city’s police chief, said there was no indication that the shooting was connected to terrorism. At least 21 people were wounded, in addition to the woman who died, and they ranged in age from 8 to 47 years old, Chief Graves said. At least half of the wounded were younger than 16. The woman who died was identified as Elizabeth Galvan, 43.

The authorities have said that three people were detained in connection to the shooting on Wednesday afternoon. Two of them, the police said, were younger than 18. No charges have been filed.

Teenagers and guns are a bad mix.
