Well, that fuss about teh joak wot went rong was a storm tornado in a teacup! 
Cold text without intonation, facial expression can lead to unintended inference. Especially across oceans. Quite amusing to observe from the groundlings' yard!
Fun(ish) factoid: it can seem counter-intuitive that Latin was used as a medium of communication and record in medieval times long after it had ceased to be spoken in the wild (not counting Italian as modern Latin, no). But Latin's deadness was an advantage, not a deficit. Words had settled meanings, there were no colloquialisms, so there weren't the problems of (for example) "gay" acquiring its homosexual meaning, or "bad" being used (sarcastically or not) to mean "good".
