He presented himself as a political scholar--a Conservative (a real one, not the changelings we see today) but someone who was comfortable in the middle of the road, arguing in favor of moderation and against crazy spending. He was maddening, because he had bushels of facts in his head. He prided himself on being accurate.

Quite possibly--though I'm a believer in the idea that corruption increases. I've had this discussion about my despicable congresswoman, Elise Stefanik, too. Her turn to the dark side was much quicker than Tuckers, which made it more noticeable. Plenty of people think this is who she always was.
