From a Christmas special airing on Apple TV+ starting the 22nd. I knew Hannah Waddingham could sing didn't know about Phil Dunster. I'm not generally big on Christmas specials but I might watch this one.

Some quality Russian music to pass the time.

According to google translate, the title/lyrics translate to "Eyn Daga Dyr Bubul." I should have guessed, really.

The music is great and of course I can shut my eyes and just listen, but...

Just like the swaying back and forth from an organist, I found the bassoon player's exaggerated swaying back and forth distracting and downright off-putting. I don't expect her to stand stock still, but she isn't AC/DC guitarist Angus Young trying to be noticed in the cheap seats in the next county.

No disrespect here, she is great, and this is a great performance, I'm just overly curmudgeonly today maybe.

I took the Mrs to see Alan Jackson, what 20 some-odd years ago. She liked him and his songs didn't want me to jam 10 penny nails in my ears so it was gonna be Ok.

I thought.

6 dudes stood on stage and in total they moved 5 meters of the course of the evening. Dead, no feeling, no joy or anything positive.

I'd rather see the double-bass player jam out like the Two Cello dudes than stoically sit there like what they're playing isn't touching them somehow.

It just dawned on my that these two superficially look like Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles from Supernatural.

Yeah, I get that, and it's a fine line - like I said, I don't expect her to be standing stock still.

But the Two Cello dudes were playing jazz/rock (as far as I'm concerned) and they WERE being Angus Young - and they were obviously playing to the cheap seats, 'cause there wasn't anybody in the expensive seats up front.

That made me actually laugh. Haven't done that in a while. Thanks.

Loved that arrangement - light years above the one we did back in the dark ages. Course we were just kids and didn't do anything too complicated.

I like the "studio", getting that feel, kinda like John Bonham's drums in Kashmir.

I liked this piece, and didn't mind the lady rocking out. Go for it.

What are the two seated woodwinds that are the size of clarinets with metal tube mouth pieces similar to the bassoon and oboe?

Those are just oboes. In that row there 2 French horns, 2 oboes, and one very bored bassoonist waiting for the coach to put her in to replace the injured quarterback/soloist.

Oh! Thank you. I thought oboes were much bigger. So, are the most prominent instruments in the Six Feet Under intro oboes? They start playing just as the gurney wheels enter the scene at the 30 second mark.

Sounds like English Horns. They look like big oboes with a bulge at the end.
