After the abolition of legal slavery, didn't southern states pass laws to actively target Black folk with minor charges and excessive sentences to create a pool of captive labor which could be forced to work unpaid in their farms and plantations, slaves by another name?Dave from down under wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 11:04 pm It sounds more acceptable “justice system” than slavery.
Are the excessively long sentences (relative to most of the rest of the free world) perhaps partially a hangover from this?
