I say, wait a goldurned minnit hear, it is not autumn yet, the equinox isn't until the 23rd!

But yesterday there was a little chill in the air when ol' Wifehorn and I went strolling.

And just now a noisy flock of Canuckistani Geese went motoring over mah house, honkin' and flappin' and ... and you know how they get.

Fall is upon me, and I missed the summer this year! :oldman: :violin: :crying:
I believe the correct term is Canuckistan Geese. No i.

Highs in the Twin Cities today through Tuesday range from 95° to 100°. The Minnesota State Fair ends on Labor Day and I can’t even imagine being in those crowds or the fairground buildings during that heat.

I've been working in that kind of heat the last 2 months....

Yep.

We had three glorious days of low 70s here. It ends today, but it was absolutely beautiful weather. It will be close to 90 by Labor Day and several days after. Maybe it will be summer's swan song, but probably not. Not complaining. We have not had the super hot weather that so much of the country has had.

We're looking at another major system, to be named Lee, rolling out of Africa, which could hit somebody somewhere in the next 10-14 days. Cross your fingers it turns north earlier than expected.

The Euro model shows it prolly turning north sooner than the US model. I've seen the Euro model to be more accurate overall so let's hope that stays true.

Because no storm drains/sewers. Nothern/midwesterners take such for granted. But out there, they don't get enough water/rain to justify the cost.

The movie "IT" (stephen king) is also a mystery to them. They all FLOAT down here. 8-)
We do have storm drains, lots of homeless live in them until it rains. Also,

This is an interesting look at Vegas posted in the comments. They discuss the homeless living in the storm drains in the first ten minutes. Wonder what is happening to them all (estimated 1,500 living down there) during this storm.

Thanks for the vid link. I am unsure I am convinced there are upwards of 1500 people living down there (we see zero people coming or going and the duo did not enter to investigate). I think the host person who was showing the podcaster around was hyping things.

Last visit to Vegas was 2000. Very happy not to return. However, I do have family elsewhere in Nevada -- and they have NO STORM DRAINS.

I'm confused. You last visited Las Vegas 25 years ago and yet you doubt local reporting because you have family some place else in the state. You flat out said Vegas had no storm drains but they obviously do. And people live in them. Las Vegas is consistently on the list of top 20 cities with the highest homeless population in the US. All those people have to live someplace and the storm drain tunnels are apparently their home of choice.I have no idea why you're trying to argue the point either.
As for pictures, MSN has a bunch of them.

It makes sense since they must be somewhat like caves. They may not have as consistent a temperature as a cave, but as I think the local guy in the video said cooler when it's hot, warmer when it's cold.

Lee is now a hurricane.

It is too early for an accurate track forecast but folks in the northern Caribbean and the SE US coast should watch as it moves west.

And on the other side of the world...

Extreme rain in Hong Kong turns city streets into raging rivers (Gift link)
Hong Kong experienced the most rainfall in an hour since records began 140 years ago, leading to flash flooding that turned streets into raging rivers that looked better suited to white-water rafting than city living.

Hong Kong weather authorities issued a black warning, an alert that more than 70 millimeters (2.75 inches) of rain was expected to fall in an hour, at 11:05 p.m. Thursday.

More than double that amount came down — the Hong Kong Observatory said that 158.1 mm (6.2 inches) of rain fell at its headquarters between 11 p.m. and midnight, according to the South China Morning Post.

The Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters have found that Lee has
skyrocketed to category 5 strength. The aircraft measured peak
700-mb flight-level winds of 148 kt and trustworthy SFMR winds
slightly over 140 kt, and dropsonde data shows that the minimum
pressure has plummeted to 928 mb. Based on these data, the initial
intensity is set at 140 kt, and Lee's maximum winds have increased
by an incredible 70 kt over the past 24 hours
. The hurricane has a
clear 15 n mi-wide eye, with an infrared eye temperature as warm
as 21 C surrounded by convective cloud tops as cold as -76 C.

Additional strengthening appears likely, as Lee remains in a
low-shear environment and over very warm waters near 30 degrees
Celsius, and there are no signs of an imminent eyewall replacement.
In fact, based on guidance from UW-CIMSS, the probability of a
secondary eyewall formation during the next 24 hours is well below
climatology. There is some chance that moderate deep-layer
southwesterly shear could develop over the hurricane, but this
could be offset by strong upper-level divergence and thus have
little to no impact. To account for the recent rate of
intensification, the NHC intensity forecast is slightly above the
IVCN and HCCA consensus aids and shows a peak intensity of 155 kt in
12 hours. Amazingly, the 1800 UTC HAFS-A and -B runs show a peak
intensity between 170-180 kt
, but that's getting into rarefied air.
The NHC forecast will be adjusted accordingly if those solutions
begin looking like a more distinct possibility. Only very gradual
weakening is shown after 12-24 hours, and it is likely that Lee's
intensity will fluctuate for much of the forecast period. Lee is
forecast to remain a dangerous category 4 or 5 hurricane for the
next 5 days.
