Are you intentionally trying to be an asshole? The people who are being affected don't really care what people in FL think.
Yes, I am intentionally trying to be an asshole because that would make sense, yes?. I have family in south Cali.

A 5.1 can cause damage, luckily this one didn't.

As someone who has lived through many quakes, up to 6.9, I can tell you that anything above a 4 can be scary, and a 5 can be downright terrifying.

There is no comparison between quakes & hurricanes; they're totally different creatures.

So you can take your "get over yourselves," and stick it up your ass.

My ass is all yours.

I do know the difference between Cat scale hurricanes and earthquakes. I know the Richter scale and that a 6 is 10 times the magnitude of a 5.

Why am I feeling beat up on? Am I a new punching bag? It's seems a little silly. It's beat up on neon week? Knock it off, kids.

Not to pick nits or get into the food fight, but that don't look like south Cali to me, unless you're in Southern Columbia and we're talking cartel.

As a native Angeleno, let me make a small request:

It's not cali, it's California. Nobody but outlanders & douchebags like Guy Fieri call it cali.

In a pinch, Cali-fuckin'-fornia is acceptable. SoCal & NorCal also work when appropriate.

A final note, while L.A. is fine, Frisco & SanFran are right out. It's San Francisco, or the City.

(But nobody will laugh if you refer to Oakland as the Bigity-bigity-O.)

Por favor, señor, I may pick a few nits with you:

- Agree with Cali, that's a cartel. Pretty good product, I must say.

- SoCal & NorCal are widely used, but there is debate about the dividing line.

- San Fran screams "dumb jock" but Frisco is dope if you got roots in the Mission and it pisses off boring old white people who were in love with Herb Caen. That makes it very useful. If you really got a beef with that, I'll send over a couple of Hell's Angels. So let's call a friendly truce there. The city is somewhat presumptuous, it looks goofy on uniforms, a phrase that is never uttered with capitals, no way. You might use it when you're riding BART, maybe a few other occasions.

- I'm laughing at that bigity stuff, which I guess makes me a nobody, never heard one that before. I'd go with Oaktown. Or more recently, perhaps Bip City. Empty your car completely if you want any chance to keep your windows.

And now back to the weather, it's still cooking....

Or perhaps mandatory.

I know you folks got your trouble right now, but please don't everybody go swimming across the Colorado at once.

Warning of unprecedented heatwaves as El Niño set to return in 2023
Scientists say phenomenon coupled with growing climate crisis likely to push global temperatures ‘off the chart’

Damian Carrington Environment editor
Mon 16 Jan 2023 16.00 GMT

The return of the El Niño climate phenomenon later this year will cause global temperatures to rise “off the chart” and deliver unprecedented heatwaves, scientists have warned.

Early forecasts suggest El Niño will return later in 2023, exacerbating extreme weather around the globe and making it “very likely” the world will exceed 1.5C of warming. The hottest year in recorded history, 2016, was driven by a major El Niño.

It is part of a natural oscillation driven by ocean temperatures and winds in the Pacific, which switches between El Niño, its cooler counterpart La Niña, and neutral conditions. The last three years have seen an unusual run of consecutive La Niña events.

This year is already forecast to be hotter than 2022, which global datasets rank as the fifth or sixth hottest year on record. But El Niño occurs during the northern hemisphere winter and its heating effect takes months to be felt, meaning 2024 is much more likely to set a new global temperature record.

I've been using the NOAA Hurricane site for more years than I can remember. I've never seen 3 named storms last for more than 24 hours, ever.

Good information for a midwesterner. I have only been to the left coast once. I’ll use this information if I ever make it back there.
I’d like to take a train and relax on the way.

One thing my old bones learned from this storm. There are places out west (Nevada) that have no storm sewers. There is nowhere for the water to go -- as they don't normally get much rain. This happened in Vegas and other places in Nevada. The water just creates mud on the roads. Crazy.

4 days of 115 + degrees with heat index higher than that.

My students that ride the bus are miserable.

Our classrooms can't keep up and we are all suffering from the heat. It is ridiculous to start school first week in Aug.

My school started the Tuesday after Labor Day. I never understood any schedule other than that. Full summer and start when classroom is more comfortable.

would be nice for sure.

We used to start later back when most buildings did not have air. then about 2008 most buildings had air but they didn't do the gyms.

I walk through our gym on the way to my car and it was cooler outside than it was the gym but not by much. Geesh This is ridiculous.

On topic we had an orange warning for a storm called "Betty" over the weekend. I didn't get affected much but there was heavy flooding in Cork and other southern towns.

There was a lot of rain in the East of the country in the first week of August and there was flooding, including flash floods in Dublin
