Fortunately, I really love what I do and where I work, so I'm happy to stay here for quite a while. I sometimes worry about retirement, because of the possibility of getting bored, which leads to major depression. So I'm probably going the route my dad did, working full days in the office (and out on the shop floor designing and building machine tools for the manufacturing company he owned) until he was 84.
Even though I'm now old enough to apply for Social Security, I still haven't gotten over the irritation of starting to get membership offers from AARP when I was about 48. And I will never forgive Walgreen's for reaching out with their monthly 20% off Senior Discount Day promotion which starts when you hit 55, an age that is now further in the rear-view mirror than I would like. The vultures started circling at the possibility of my demise far too long ago. At least salesmen aren't stopping by to cell cemetery plots and prepaid funeral services. Yet.
My mom turns 92 next month and is still motoring along quite nicely without a cane or walker, and with only glasses and a hearing aid. I'm grateful for the gene pool.

When Hubby turned 50 he signed up with AARP. Your spouse is automatically a member. I was 47. Hubby didn’t tell me about my membership until I turned 50. I was most appreciative!
