JUST IN: Judge McBurney denies Trump’s request for 21 additional days to file a reply brief regarding his efforts to disqualify Fulton County DA Fani Willis and scrap the investigation into attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. To date, the Court has received well over five hundred pages of briefing, argument, and exhibits on the issues raised by former President Trump and Ms. Latham. That is plenty. There will no more briefing unless it is solicited, in writing, by the Court.

Judge orders Rudy Giuliani to detail finances in election defamation suit
The order comes amid disputes about access to Giuliani’s evidence related to a suit filed by 2020 election poll workers.

A federal judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to provide a detailed accounting of his finances and net worth in connection with a lawsuit filed by two Georgia poll workers who contend the Trump lawyer defamed them by publicly accusing them of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell issued the order during an unusual hearing Friday on ongoing disputes about access to Giuliani’s evidence related to the suit brought by Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss two years ago.
During the nearly 3-hour hearing, Howell repeatedly expressed irritation at having to expend considerable time on the discovery dispute, which she suggested should have been worked out by the parties.
“I can’t say I’m happy about it,” the judge said, later referring to Giuliani’s efforts to search for relevant emails and messages as a “murky mess.”
While the court session explored a variety of issues about evidence in the case, much of the focus was on Giuliani’s claim in a recent court filing that he could not perform further searches of emails and other records stored in an electronic database because the vendor was seeking $320,000 to allow that. The former mayor, U.S. Attorney and Justice Department official said he simply could not afford that sum.
Howell said Giuliani’s “claim of poverty” meant that the plaintiffs were entitled to insight into his finances.
An attorney for Giuliani, Joseph Sibley, said the plaintiffs should not be provided some personal information, like court filings detailing Giuliani’s obligations in his 2019 divorce from his third wife, Judith Nathan.
But Howell said the plaintiffs were entitled to know about Giuliani’s financial condition, including the divorce-related payments, before deciding whether to help foot the bill for document searches in the case. Typically, parties must handle their own costs to comply with discovery obligations.
“I think that would be pertinent to evaluating his financial net worth,” the judge said.

I don't have the link handy, but the report I read on it stated that he also touted to the judge the diligent, nay, more than diligent search he's done for the documents requested, so he shouldn't have to do more. Trust him.

Complexities of a RICO case seen in wide-ranging Georgia investigation of Trump
ALEX WAGNER TONIGHT
June 3, 2023
Harry Litman and Barb McQuade, former U.S. attorneys, talk with Alex Wagner about how prosecutors construct a RICO case and why the reporting on the investigation of Donald Trump from Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis suggests that a RICO case is what she is assembling.

Just heard on MSNBC that TWO grand juries are being sworn in today. Not a lawyer, but two sounds like more than one indictment.

State or federal grand juries? If a state one, does Georgia have a system where counties have a standing grand jury or two, and this was just a normal start of a new term?
Sorry to pour water on it but I tend to be cynical about breathless media speculation on things that could potentially by SOP.

I believe it's state GJ, not federal. CNN spoke in some more detail, there are two seated today, but they'll be doing other GJ things like indicting murderers and other bad guys.northland10 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 1:30 pmState or federal grand juries? After reading from CNN and others, along with other court sites, I believe these are normal scheduled Grand Juries so there is nothing unusual about them being seated now. Since the original investigation was with a special GJ, I assume they still have to seek an indictment from a normal GJ and that may happen during term now starting.

Donald Trump is seeking a new court order to essentially neutralize the Fulton County investigation into the former president’s conduct after he lost the 2020 election, as potential indictments loom in Georgia.
Trump’s lawyers filed petitions this week attempting to throw out the evidence collected last year by a special grand jury, banning prosecutors from presenting that material to a newly empaneled grand jury that has charging powers, and disqualifying District Attorney Fani Willis from any related proceedings.
Lawyers for Trump say letting the investigation proceed would lead to “a violation of his fundamental constitutional rights” while he “seeks his Party’s nomination for the Presidency of the United States.”
Trump’s lawyers filed the separate petitions with the Fulton County Superior Court as well as the Georgia Supreme Court, asking them to intervene with the ongoing grand jury process.
Willis, an elected Democrat, has indicated that final charging decisions could come as soon as next month.
Throughout the probe, Willis used a “special purpose grand jury” to hear evidence from 75 witnesses including Trump advisers, his former attorneys, White House aides and Georgia officials. But Trump’s lawyers argued that these special grand juries are themselves unconstitutional.
