Now there's an idea...
They already have experience in mitigating storm damage, and PR's economy could use the boost (and real estate would be cheap). But, yeah, not going to happen. Besides, given that Puerto Rico still has heavy federal meddling in its affairs, it would give an excuse for a Congressional GOP to get all up in Disney's business at every step.

Desantis 2018 debate prep shows his problem, he has to constantly reinvent himself and fake it, and even write “Likable” on his note cards so he can try and fake a different personality on camera.

Desantis today claims the reason why he didn’t take any overseas trips until just recently is because he refused to take a covid test or show proof of vaccination, so he wouldn’t travel until countries lifted those requirements.

Disney expands lawsuit against DeSantis after governor signs bill to void land deals

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/08/disney- ... anded.html
Disney on Monday expanded its federal lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, accusing the Republican leader of doubling down on his “retribution campaign” against the company by signing legislation to void Disney’s development deals in Orlando.

Disney’s amended lawsuit also noted that Florida’s Republican-led Legislature passed legislation last week targeting Walt Disney World’s monorail system.

“Governor DeSantis and his allies have no apparent intent to moderate their retaliatory campaign any time soon,” Disney wrote in its additions to the civil complaint it filed in U.S. District Court in Tallahassee in April.

DeSantis’ office did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the amended complaint.

Disney alleges that DeSantis began a war of retaliation against the company in 2022, after it publicly criticized the controversial Florida bill — dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by critics — that limits discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms. :snippity:

Didn't you know he has no intention of giving up the governorship if he's elected president? He'll just change the law again and run for another term as gov while still presidenting.

DeSantis severs ties with state political committee ahead of expected White House bid

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) severed ties with his state political committee ahead of an expected White House run that could be announced in the upcoming weeks.

The move was necessary for DeSantis to be able to declare a presidential campaign if he chooses to mount one. The committee’s website was updated to list that state Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R) is the “associated person” with the committee, Friends of Ron DeSantis, instead of the Florida governor.

DeSantis has not publicly announced that he’s considering a run, but separating himself from the state committee is one of multiple steps he has taken recently that may hint he is close to launching a bid.

He said on Friday at a press conference marking the end of the Florida legislative session that he will make a decision about the future “relatively soon,” adding that “you either gotta put up or shut up.”

This came after he dismissed reports from last month that said he planned to get in the race in May or June. He had, however, hinted earlier this year that he would wait at least until the end of Florida’s regular legislative session before deciding whether to run for the presidency.

DeSantis May Place Lien, Ending Walt Disney World Resort

https://insidethemagic.net/2023/05/desa ... creek-jc1/
One day after the Central Florida Disney Park announced updates to its lawsuit against DeSantis and the state of Florida, the Republican Governor’s hand-selected Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board revealed its May 10 meeting agenda.

The board, which took over Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District in February, has pressed forward despite Disney’s rushed resolution to disempower the district authority. As DeSantis prepares a countersuit against The Walt Disney Company, the board plans to send “enforcement officers” to Walt Disney World Resort.

Said officers will work with a proposed enforcement citation program and a magistrate who will appeal any enforcement violations. Enforcement officers would issue citations to any “person” violating the district’s rules, resolutions, codes, ordinances, or regulations. In this case, “person” refers to any “individuals, children, firms, associations, joint ventures, partnerships, estates, trusts, business trusts, syndicates, fiduciaries, corporations and all other groups and legal entities or combinations thereof.”

Fines for violations would range from $75 to $500, with the Board-chosen magistrate given the power to assign liens against properties owned by “persons” who don’t pay such fines. The overseeing magistrate would be legally required to be a licensed Florida attorney not affiliated with the District General Counsel.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board plans to enact this proposed resolution at its meeting on May 10, 2023. Previous resolutions have included making any COVID-19 vaccine or mask requirements illegal in the district and claiming “superior authority” over Reedy Creek to bypass Disney’s resolution to make it powerless.

IMHO that title grossly misrepresent what a lien can do. The problem is that the board will go after the many franchise and concession owners on Disneys property and try to discourage them to do business. Disney itself is somewhat immune cause they have their lawyers fighting back in court.

I am waiting to see the qualifications of their "inspectors", it anti-woke sufficient? How about basic knowledge of the laws? Let's see how they present themselves on social media when they get videoed when attempting to enforce some crazy local rule. These inspectors will find their faces and information all over the internet. Also too, I will like to see them in the witness stand for each enforcement taken to court. I have this gut feeling they will be a major fail when questioned.

I keep circling back to this. I listen to a fair bit of music, and lately when I hear music I've been trying to find a lyric that would be right for this.

The closest I've come is that line from N10's hymn O Love:

"Oh joy, that seeks me through the pain".

What that means to me is, in most cases, when you are suffering, happiness is trying to find a way to get through to you and make your life better. And like the hymn says, you can't close your heart to it, because it will slip away.

So, umm ... yeah. It's a reminder that life is good and worthwhile, even in hard times.

I might find something better, though. I'm still working on it.

Somebunny apparently didn't like the negative reporting on his recent overseas trip, it would appear.
What Is Ron DeSantis Hiding Beyond His Travel Records?
The Florida governor has signed a bill blocking all details about his travel, including where he goes and who he goes with.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that would shield all of his past and future travel records from public access, a measure widely slammed as an attempt to hide his movements.

The new law, which DeSantis signed Thursday, will block reporters from accessing information about how and where DeSantis and other government officials travel, as well as who they travel with. Details about whether DeSantis used a state plane or a private plane will be retracted. The law, the first of its kind, will also keep secret visitor logs to the governor’s mansion and his office.

Florida federal judge temporarily blocks Biden’s migrant parole policy
The ruling comes as the pandemic-era Title 42 public health restriction expires.

By ANDREW ATTERBURY
05/11/2023 06:54 PM EDT Updated: 05/11/2023 11:02 PM EDT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A federal judge in Florida temporarily blocked the Biden administration from carrying out parts of its latest immigration plan in a Thursday night ruling that came as tens of thousands of migrants amassed at the southern border.

Siding with Florida and the administration of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. District Judge T. Kent Wetherell ordered the federal government to stand down from its proposed move to “parole” migrants crossing the southern border through Texas. The Biden administration has been preparing for a substantial influx of arrivals ahead of the Covid-era Title 42 rules expiring at midnight and now is locked in a legal saga.

Wetherell, in an order that came down around 9:30 p.m., determined that he “fails to see a material difference” between the Biden administration’s new parole policy and the one the judge determined was unconstitutional in March.

The Thursday ruling builds on a previous lawsuit filed by Florida against the Biden administration that asserted authorities were ignoring a federal law requiring migrants entering the country illegally to be detained. That lawsuit criticized a parole and “alternatives to detention” policy created in November 2021 and since modified.

“… In both instances, aliens are being released into the country on an expedited basis without being placed in removal proceedings and with little to no vetting and no monitoring,” Wetherell, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, wrote in a 17-page order.

In the order, Wetherell granted the temporary restraining order sought by the DeSantis administration in Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s lawsuit. It’s set to go into effect at 11:59 p.m. — coinciding with the expiration of Title 42 — to give the Biden Administration a chance to pursue a stay from a higher court.

CNBC reports.

DeSantis allies could shift $86 million to help him run for president as watchdogs cry foul

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/12/desanti ... l-bid.html
Key Points

Allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are reportedly planning to move nearly $86 million of state campaign money to support his expected 2024 presidential campaign.

The governor’s allies could try to transfer the funds to a pro-DeSantis federal super PAC, though some campaign finance experts question whether that move would be legal.

DeSantis is widely considered former President Donald Trump’s top potential GOP primary rival.
Allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are reportedly planning to execute a controversial money transfer to free up tens of millions of dollars to support his expected 2024 presidential campaign.

DeSantis, widely considered former President Donald Trump’s top potential Republican primary rival, won his 2018 gubernatorial race and easily clinched reelection in 2022 with the help of a deep-pocketed state political committee. The group has raised more than $225 million for DeSantis and currently boasts nearly $86 million in cash on hand.

But if DeSantis decides to run for president — as he is widely expected to do in the coming weeks — he is legally barred from dumping that war chest into his federal campaign coffer. That’s because federal law bans the transfer of state-level political funds to a national election.

Instead, the governor’s allies could try to transfer them to a pro-DeSantis federal super PAC, which is required to remain independent of his potential presidential bid. The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the situation, has reported that those plans are underway.

“That is the path we expect for DeSantis to take,” Shanna Ports, senior legal counsel for the nonprofit government watchdog Campaign Legal Center, said in an interview. :snippity:

This will give Trump a whole new series of rigged elections to whine and cry about.

Each primary and caucus that doesn't result in a huge Trump win is obvsly rigged, even if Trump won but barely won you will know it was rigged, because he needs every delegate at the convention to be Trump 2024.
