As much as I would love a more amusing outcome, I suspect McCarthy will eventually be voted in. The holdouts have made their point, both to their supporters and to congress : they have power. Next they will probably get some kind of face saving concession like committee assignments or something else juicy, and enough will vote him in. Within their own ranks, they are probably doing their own horse trading to see who gets to be the final romanic holdout vs getting on board.

I think it's the committee assignments/leadership that is the problem. These dudes want to rule the roost, plus have the right to throw McCarthy out any time they want. Bad combo, that.

I'm so pleased to watch these Grifter Pubs dealing with the Manchin syndrome. Hearing McCarthy howling because five or 20 yokels are going against the obvious will of the majority is...yeah, nice.

In seem to recall that one of the sticking points is that the "rules" will be amended to permit a recall with only 5 (GOP) Congress Critters signing up. I would have thought the rules as interpreted would mean that would probably actually mean that ANY 5 Congress Critters could.

Can't see how the recall could be restricted by party.... Then again.....

if so and if the Dems really want to gum up they GOP works they just need to make this a weekly thing, last minute of a Friday......

HFC goons are demanding 1 person to request a recall vote for Speaker. McCarthy said he agreed to something--maybe 5. But nothing is written in stone (or invisible ink, even).

Commentator yesterday said something along the lines of "One thing I can tell you about the House Freedom Caucus is that they will go back on their agreements any time they want."

No Democrat in her right mind can trust any Republican to make a deal and keep their word.

No McCarthy supporter can trust a MAGAt.

None of the MAGAts can trust each other.

I voted for nobody wins since I'm counting the country, and we've had a big loss. We must look like effing idiots to the rest of the world. I still think McCarthy wins in the end, but not with as high confidence as I had a few days ago. But after January 6, nothing would surprise me.

On the 89th ballot, McCarthy loses another 5 votes and now has 35 pubs opposing him. No other pub candidate can attract enough interest to be even considered for the speakership by the pubs. Frustration mounts, finger-pointing all around the pub caucus, so angry 30-40 pubs leave the chamber and begin fighting and blaming each other for their failure. The fight goes on so long, they miss hearing the call for the next vote...

On the 90th ballot, Jeffries elected speaker with 212 votes. Pub civil war now on full display.
