Figured we could use a dedicated thread to discuss this one, it's a doozy.

Still kinda stunned that this particular county is, in fact, even remotely to be considered proper venue. But okay.

There must be a super-Trumpy judge in that county.
Trump v. Pulitzer Prize Board
As always, anyone can file anything anywhere. (Counsel's ethics notwithstanding.)
Whether the suit remains in this court, or some other judge eventually will get the honor of GTFOOMC'ing it, remains to be seen.

So here's the legal theory of the case.
1. Two newspapers wrote mean things about me and my only friend, Vladimir.
2. You gave those rags an AWARD for saying mean things about me and my only friend, Vladimir.
3. Therefore, you suck, and lots of people believed the mean things about me and my only friend, Vladimir.
4. So you owe me millions of dollars for my hurt feelings.
This is truly groundbreaking legal analysis. Do you know, ol' Wifehorn said something mean about me once? But nobody gave her an award for it, so I can't sue anybody. Well, I could ...

I get that, except that bereft of any real legal argument for it, I am wondering what the tactical/strategic reason was. Yes, yes, I know I make the grand mistake of assuming there *was* one, but even if it's something as simple as "that's the closest courthouse to the office of the lawyer who did the gruntwork", I'll deal. It just seems so bizarre otherwise so I was assuming judge-shopping.

Yeah, I can't say if it was judge shopping or just laziness, but I'll buy that the defendant is covered by Florida's law-arm statute.
But it can easily be removed to federal court. And then perhaps a different district, but I suspect the MTD will be filed there. Which, still being Florida, ultimately will help defeat an anti-SLAPP motion.

Liz’s article which I linked to above speculates that Trump’s lawyers are anticipating that the lawsuit will be removed to federal court and are hoping that it will end up in Judge Aileen Cannon’s court.
