Paywall at the link. The ‘Save America’ PAC that raised millions from small dollar donors to prove there was election fraud paid out $60,000 to Melania Trump’s fashion designer.
usatoday wrote:The fund affiliated with former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election paid $60,000 to a fashion designer known for styling Melania Trump’s wardrobe when the couple was in the White House.
The Save America political action committee distributed the money to Hervé Pierre Braillard in four payments starting April 7 and going through June 24, according to records filed with the Federal Elections Commission. The committee reported that these payments were all for “strategy consulting.” It’s not clear what the money specifically paid for.
“Mr. Pierre serves as a senior adviser to Save America, involved in event management and special projects,” said Taylor Budowich, a senior official with Save America.
The payments offer a window into one of the many ways Trump, who is not a candidate for any federal office, is allowed to use money in the PAC, which has raised more than $100 million since it was registered in November 2020 to fight debunked voter fraud allegations in the 2020 election.
Experts said the payments are allowed through a loophole that the FEC won't close.
A pet irritation of mine. The law is the law - it allows what it allows and prohibits what it prohibits. If the FEC knows about it but chooses not to do anything, it isn’t a “loophole.”
I don't know.. nothing about loopholes depends on it not being the law, only that the law has an exploitable weakness, and the FEC is not exactly known for clamping down on, well, much of anything. Even when something is not intended, stakeholders have to weigh the cost of doing something about it vs what it is costing them, and the FEC tends to err on the side of 'unless there is public backlash or pissed off rich people, we are not going to do anything about it'.Maybenaut wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 11:35 am A pet irritation of mine. I agree there are sometimes unintended consequences when a body passes a law or regulation. But if they’re not shut right away, then you have to presume they intend it to remain.
Worth noting, since someone will use this as a defense if this goes anywhere, that Florida's consumer protection efforts come under the Ag Commish (technically, the 'Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services'), and that is currently one Nikki Fried, the sole (D) in the Florida Cabinet.
Melania has reportedly bought new underwear after the search: “Melania is a bigger germaphobe than her husband. She hates people touching her and certainly doesn’t want to put on lingerie that FBI Agents had their hands all over.”
That's called haphephobia, if true. She hates people touching her ...
I don’t like strangers touching me. It’s not a fear, just a dislike.Foggy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 2:14 pmThat's called haphephobia, if true.She hates people touching her ...
I hear you! Especially when they start talking to you: "You have the right to remain . . ."pipistrelle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 2:16 pmI don’t like strangers touching me. Then say 10 rosaries.
Nope 10 'Be Bests' an 'I don't care do you', and make a good act of submission.
