Sadly, the people forced to work at the convention will be overburdening the Jax hospitals.

I'm doubtful that being in Klingon would improve it. Tamarian makes more sense than him, even if you don't know Tamarian. However, I now have a new Tamarian phrase to use when describing and magnificently idiotic politician.

The Hill: Pence says GOP considering moving convention outdoors
Vice President Pence said Wednesday that Republican officials are considering moving the party's convention events in Jacksonville, Fla., outdoors next month.
"There's consideration being given to having the convention in an outdoor setting and also putting the kind of measures in place that put the health of all of those participating, our delegates, visitors and anyone else that's present - we'll put the health of everyone participating first," Pence told reporters on a campaign press call Wednesday afternoon.
Plans for the convention have been marred by uncertainty as a result of dramatically rising coronavirus cases in Florida. President Trump, who has pushed for a full-scale convention despite warnings from public health experts, said last week that the GOP would be "flexible" in its planning but offered no specifics on what he meant.
Pence echoed Trump's remarks Wednesday and described the convention as "a work in progress." He said the campaign is continuously consulting with Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry (R) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) as well as other local health officials.

And they would be rolling the dice on August Florida weather -- that's still in hurricane season. Still HOT even up in Jacksonville, too, also.

I thought the current Republican line is that the case count is not important, it's only the death count that counts. So, why worry about an inside or outside event - according to them only a small percentage die, so everything is ok.
Gosh, should kids attend outdoors school, too? Or is it just adult white male convention goers lives that count?

Re: Republican National Convention 2020 Charlotte NC / Jacksonville FL
It's not that the Trump/Pence campaign is worried about anyone's lives. It's that the people who are potentially going to attend care about their own lives. It's about attendance and crowd shots.RVInit wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 10:32 pm I thought the current Republican line is that the case count is not important, it's only the death count that counts. JACKSONVILLE — William Andralliski followed Hurricane Matthew here last fall, chasing construction work. He found a job repairing the damage the storm left behind. He met a woman in the city, and they made a life together. Less than a year later, another hurricane swept that life away. Hurricane Irma forced flood waters under the door of the 28-year-old’s tiny apartment. Andralliski, his girlfriend and her mother fled for the nearest shelter, running from the water pooling in his living room carpet. Now they own little more than their phones and the clothes they were wearing. Their apartment is condemned. “Irma came and washed it all away — all of our birth certificates, pictures,” he said. “It’s like we don’t even exist.”
Irma did all of that despite skirting Jacksonville, its eye passing more than 70 miles away. By then it was a tropical storm, its winds half the speed they were when it made landfall on the other end of Florida as a ferocious hurricane. Yet flood waters here were so high they lapped at the light switches in Andralliski’s apartment. Gov. Rick Scott was surprised by the damage. “I don’t think many people thought they'd get all the flooding that they got,” he said. But the way Irma’s waters surged into Jacksonville and sat in some neighborhoods for days was no fluke. It was proof of something local officials have known for years: The city is dangerously flood-prone, making a hit from even a weaker hurricane potentially catastrophic.

Irma was a bitch. Fortunately, in south Florida, we have a good network of man-made water retention canals that move the water out of the way fairly quickly. Here is a video I took as Irma approached behind my home. (I stayed to experience thisOrlylicious wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:10 am Jacksonville is a particularly interesting choice.

I wonder if these easily scared Republicans know what they might face in Jacksonville -- outside?

Adding:WaPo: Republican convention in Jacksonville will be scaled back next month
The Republican Party will hold a scaled-back convention in Jacksonville, Fla., next month that includes a mix of outdoor and indoor venues, according to a letter sent to delegates.
The Thursday letter from Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, obtained by The Washington Post, said admittance will be limited to only regular delegates for the first three days of the convention — or about 2,500 people. For the final day, when the president attends, delegates will get a guest, and alternate delegates can also attend — or 6,000 to 7,000 people.
In the letter, McDaniel says the changes are to comply with Florida rules after the party moved most of the convention from North Carolina. “When we made these changes, we had hoped to be able to plan a traditional convention celebration to which we are all accustomed. However, adjustments must be made to comply with state and local health guidelines,” she said.
McDaniel said in the letter that officials are likely to use both outdoor and indoor spaces in Florida, though officials say final decisions have not been made on where the speeches will occur. “We plan to utilize a number of indoor and outdoor venues in this multi-block radius of Jacksonville, including the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, TIAA Bank Field, Daily’s Place Amphitheater, 121 Financial Ballpark, and several others,” the letter says.

So they moved the convention to Jacksonville for naught.
They have to do the same thing NC Gov Cooper said -- scale down attendance.

Watch them have to cancel a week before the convention because of conditions on the ground.

What if the Republicans held a convention and nobody came?

Re: Republican National Convention 2020 Charlotte NC / Jacksonville FL
Only cost their donors $38 million for NC, another $38 million to cancel FL because the pub governor thinks they can just ignore the virus and it will go away shouldn't hurt them too bad.

Re: Republican National Convention 2020 Charlotte NC / Jacksonville FL
Let me expand on that a little.
The "official Trmp Campaign" is sitting on enough phat stax of cash to pay for all of this out of petty cash. But the RNC is a little skiint because, well, they paid for the convention in advance in North Carolina and they didn't plan for having to do another one.
If there was a way that the Trump Organization could get on the vendors list for some big dollar invoices, they'd be all over it because I am convinced Trump is hoarding all the Trump 2020 bank accounts until he figures out a way to put as much of it in his own pocket as he can.
but since Jacksonville doesn't have a Trump property that I know of, who cares, he's not gonna spend that money, he KNOWS that he's gonna lose, even if he doesn't admit it, and that Campaign Fund could pay for a lot of legal fees, greens fees, hookers,, etc...

He is probably stacking the deck in case he gets a chance to run away to another country. Unfortunately that wont work because he is an addict. He is addicted to seeing himself on the TV an the cheering crowds and his twits getting talked about on the news. He actually cant bring himself to run and lose all that.
The other reason it wont work is that no-one is letting Americans in anymore.

The last paragraph of Brave New World (1932) by Aldous Huxley:
Slowly, very slowly, like two unhurried compass needles, the feet turned towards the right; north, north-east, east, south-east, south, south-south-west; then paused, and, after a few seconds, turned as unhurriedly back towards the left. South-south-west, south, south-east, east.
