I've been basically on the line that the only conspiracy needed was to just "accidentally" look away and allow him to get on with it, and not care much if he did.

This is stretching even my scepticism though.

Again, I have to admit that maybe I'm just stupid.

Can someone explain to me how video outside of the cell during his first attempt would be at all significant to anything?

Are you trying to say that, in the FIRST ATTEMPT, someone came to the cell, tried to kill him, did not succeed, and then subsequently he never told his attorneys or anyone else about it?

Or were his attorneys in on it too?

The other thing I don't get is the bizarre apparent belief that the only cameras in the facility were on that specific tier, and that, for reasons no one explains, others were able to enter the building, pass through multiple corridors and doors to get to where he was held, do the dirty deed, and then likewise exit the facility through multiple corridors and doors undetected on any of the OTHER monitoring devices in the facility.

Am I supposed to be suspicious that a federal jail facility is poorly managed? That's the thing that is too hard to believe?

But, please, I would really like someone to explain what it is I am failing to understand about the lack of video of the FIRST ATTEMPT, which he survived, and for which his attorneys subsequently argued was insufficient to hold him on suicide watch.

He was up and around, alive and talking, after the first attempt, but didn't bother to mention that it was a setup of some kind? Is that what you believe?

Just explain that much to me.
Thanks pal.

Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell, the alleged madam of Jeffrey Epstein, told a court today that sealed documents in the case list the names of the wealthy and people living abroad.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/sealed-ep ... itter_page
A federal court in New York is preparing to release more sealed documents in a 2015 defamation suit filed by Virginia Giuffre, a victim of dead sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, against his alleged madam, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

But first, the court will conduct an individualized review of the pleadings that would give attorneys for Maxwell, Giuffre, and mysterious parties identified as John Does 1 and 2, the opportunity to weigh countervailing factors, such as privacy, that would limit public access.

As part of the review process, other secret “non-parties” to the case who are named in the documents—including other alleged victims, and people accused of having sex with Giuffre—will need to be notified ahead of the unsealing and have the option to object. After those objections are filed, legal teams for Maxwell and Giuffre will have a chance to file their own oppositions.

:snippity:

Meanwhile, Sigrid McCawley, Giuffre’s attorney, expressed concerns over a document dump that would portray Giuffre in a bad light. She said the only pleadings Maxwell has agreed to unseal are those that “would be negative to my client.”

Revealing the documents would demonstrate what a scumbag my client is, and that the reputation she currently has -- such as it is -- is fraudulent. Therefore, please don't release the documents.
I have found this always to be a winning argument.

Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘first victim’ was introduced to Donald Trump when she was 14: suit

https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny ... story.html
A woman who says she was Jeffrey Epstein’s first known victim claims in a new lawsuit that the multimillionaire sex offender introduced her to Donald Trump when she was 14, saying “This is a good one, right?"

Trump, according to the suit against Epstein’s estate, “smiled and nodded in agreement.” The woman filed the lawsuit Friday in Manhattan Federal Court under the pseudonym Jane Doe.

Trump and Epstein “both chuckled and Doe felt uncomfortable, but, at the time, was too young to understand why,” the lawsuit reads. The encounter happened in the mid-90s at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida resort, court docs said. The suit doesn’t accuse Trump of any abuse.

The victim met Epstein and his alleged madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, when she was 13 years old and attending Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, where she was in the voice program. The perverted financier and British socialite groomed her for abuse by frequently making references to sex and insisting she indulge their every whim, according to the suit. Epstein first sexually abused the girl toward the end of 1994, according to the suit. She claims she traveled with Epstein and Maxwell on his private jet.

Prince Andrew hires Pinochet lawyer as FBI pursues probe into royal's links with paedophile Epstein

The Duke of York has hired Britain's most respected extradition lawyer as the FBI investigates his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The 60-year-old Duke is receiving advice from Clare Montgomery QC, whose clients have included Augusto Pinochet, Chile's former dictator, and Nirav Modi, who is wanted for India's biggest fraud, the Daily Telegraph has revealed.

She is briefed by Gary Bloxsome, a criminal defence solicitor who has defended British troops against war crime allegations. He is understood to have been appointed directly by Prince Andrew.

The powerful legal team was assembled following a demand by the FBI and US prosecutors to interview Andrew about his links to Epstein, who was found dead in prison.

Prince Andrew has refused to cooperate in the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein's network of enablers, the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan said Monday.

Prince Andrew has "completely shut the door on voluntary cooperation," U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said, adding that his office is "considering its options."

Federal investigators have been trying for months to speak with Andrew, a longtime friend of Epstein who has been accused by one alleged victim of sexual abuse.

She hasn’t appeared publicly in months and her former neighbors just off posh Park Avenue say they’ve heard nothing. Yet from some undisclosed location, Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime partner and alleged enabler in his sex trafficking network, has filed a claim against the estate of the multimillionaire financier.

The filing seeks an unspecified amount of money. It will play out in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where the estate of the disgraced businessman is being settled. It was filed on Friday but it appeared on the docket late Tuesday, just hours before the March 18 deadline that effectively closes the window for asking the court for a piece of Epstein’s fortune.

In addition to legal fees, Maxwell wants compensation for expenses incurred in hiring private security and “costs to find safe accommodation” because of her “prior employment relationship” with Epstein. The filing called her an employee of several Epstein entities from 1998 to 2006.

not about the DOJ investigation but
Regulators May Punish Deutsche Bank for Its Jeffrey Epstein Ties
Banking regulators in New York have been investigating the German bank’s yearslong relationship with the disgraced financier.

By Matthew Goldstein and David Enrich
June 2, 2020

Banking regulators have spent months investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s dealings with Deutsche Bank, which lent money to the disgraced financier and held dozens of accounts for him until shortly before he died, according to four people briefed on the matter but not authorized to speak publicly.

The investigation by the New York Department of Financial Services, which has not been previously reported, could result in an enforcement action against Deutsche Bank as soon as this month, before the first anniversary of Mr. Epstein’s arrest on federal sex-trafficking charges, the people said. Mr. Epstein was arrested on July 6 and died in federal custody in August; his death was ruled a suicide.

The investigation focuses, at least in part, on the bank’s decision to continue doing business with Mr. Epstein even after employees raised concerns, according to the people. Compliance officers in the bank’s anti-money-laundering operation alerted the federal government to several transactions in which Mr. Epstein sent money overseas in 2015, while employees worried about the reputational risks of doing business with a registered sex offender. Ultimately, senior bank executives opted to maintain the relationship with Mr. Epstein because it was so lucrative.

Further to Kendra's post.
Law & Crime: Federal Judge Sets Hearing for Next Week in Two Jeffrey Epstein-Related Cases

The federal judge presiding over two Jeffrey Epstein-related cases has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday afternoon. The matter involves separate civil lawsuits filed by alleged Epstein victim Virginia (Roberts) Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell and Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz.

The Friday order from Senior U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska:
LORETTA A. PRESKA, Senior United States District Judge: Counsel for the parties in the above-captioned actions shall appear for a telephonic conference on June 23, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. EST. The dial-in for that conference is (888) 363-4734, access code: 4645450. The parties are directed to call in promptly at 2:00 p.m.
In May, Judge Preska accelerated the process for unsealing documents that name the names of non-party individuals—documents which are part of a years-old defamation case that Giuffre brought against Epstein’s alleged madam Maxwell. Maxwell called Giuffre a liar and Giuffre sued. Though Giuffre’s defamation case against Maxwell ended in 2015, Giuffre’s attorneys have fought a protracted legal battle seeking to unseal documents initially filed under seal that may contain allegations against other public figures involved in Epstein’s infamous elite social circle and alleged child sex-trafficking scheme. ...

Most recently, Maxwell’s lawyers filed objections to the unsealing of certain documents because they are “afforded the lowest presumption of public access.” The filing noted that the “series of pleadings” concerns Giuffre’s “attempt to compel Ms. Maxwell to answer intrusive questions about her sex life” and “quotes extensively, selectively, and misleadingly from Ms. Maxwell’s first seven-hour deposition.”

It’s weird: Alan Dershowitz has sent 8 defensive tweets about his relationship with Epstein today - the most tweets he has sent in a day in as long as I can see.

Anything happening with the SDNY these days?

I've read that manuscript. What Mr. Dershowitz is saying here is false. She never acknowledged that she never met him. She just doesn't mention him at all, you know, along with several other people like she never mentions the Pope or Abraham Lincoln. My understanding ....is there were a lot of people that she didn't put into her manuscript out of FEAR that some of these powerful men (especially those who use a bully pulpit) would come after her and her family. This is exactly why a lot of victims of sexual assault remain silent.

Epstein's second-in-command, Ghislaine Maxwell, was arrested today in New Hampshire.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/c ... e/2495762/
Jeffrey Epstein Confidante Ghislaine Maxwell Arrested, Sources Say

Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite and heiress who became a confidante of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and was later accused of involvement in his alleged sexual crimes, has been arrested by the FBI, two senior law enforcement sources tell News 4 New York.

She was arrested in New Hampshire on Epstein-related charges and is expected to appear in a federal court later today, the sources say.

Spokespeople for the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan declined to comment.

The daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine was a one-time girlfriend of Epstein's and was at the high-flying investor's side for decades.

But she was also alleged to have helped Epstein groom teen girls for sex with the rich and powerful. One of those teens, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, leveled that charge against Maxwell in a 2015 defamation suit, as have a number of other women.

Epstein, a registered sex offender, was arrested last summer on new federal charges of exploiting dozens of underage girls in New York and Florida in the early 2000s.

He attempted suicide in custody in late July, and then died after another suicide attempt in early August. Two of the guards tasked with monitoring Epstein now face federal charges for not properly supervising him before his death.

One day before his suicide, a federal appeals court released the transcript of a 2016 deposition in which Epstein repeatedly refused to say whether Maxwell had procured young girls for him.

Maxwell has stayed below the radar since Epstein's death, as speculation swirled about whether she could face repercussions for her friend's alleged abuses.

This could get real interesting. I would think she is the last person on earth the Dersch would want under arrest talking to the Feds. I just wonder if they have enough to make it worth while for her to talk? I also hope she goes to jail for a VERY LONG TIME.
