MSNBC reporting online that the shooter is a Saudi national in the country for training at the base. Cautions everyone not to jump to any conclusions.

Another press briefing coming up in minutes.

says Saudi Arabia "needs to make things better for these victims" of the deadly naval base shooting.

So when a Floridian commits a crime in another state or country then Florida would owe a debt to the victims?

The Dotard's administration will be "investigating" this and then keep the results secret.

And the cover-up will only cost the Saudis 2 floor rentals for a month at a Trump Hotel.

Our youngest lives about half a mile from the jewelry store. Panic sets in at our house when we see this on the Nightly News last night. Fortunately, he was safely ensconced in the Trauma Center at Miami's big hospital. :cantlook: :cantlook: :cantlook:

Eh, they will probably just declare it 'evil muslim terrorism' and downplay the Saudi connection, like each administration always does. At best they will probably find something that sounds vaguely religious and then blame ISIS or mosques.

Cross posted in Cops Behaving Badly

The UPS truck hijack/jewelry store heist from yesterday.
Four people, including a UPS driver and a bystander, were killed after robbers stole the driver's truck and led police on a chase that ended in gunfire at a busy Florida intersection during rush hour, the FBI said. Both robbers were shot and killed when shots rang out at a crowded intersection in Miramar, about 20 miles north of where the incident began, FBI Special Agent in Charge George Piro said during a news conference Thursday night.

On Friday, the FBI identified the deceased suspects as Lamar Alexander, 41, and Ronnie Jerome Hill, 41, both of Miami-Dade County.

Television news helicopters showed first responders tending to at least one person who fell out of the UPS truck, moments after several shots were fired when the chase ended. CBS News correspondent David Begnaud reports the UPS driver who was killed has been identified as 27-year-old Frank Ordonez.

I thought that the cops opening fire in rush hour traffic was a huge risk. For now, we now for sure someone sitting in traffic was killed. We don't know for sure it was via police weapons. So that's very disturbing. But, if it's true that the bad guys were shooting during rush hour traffic, failure to end it could have cost even more lives. That's why it's important to have a detailed and transparent investigation. I am not confident there will be transparency unless and until the FBI and local cops are forced to be transparent.

Re: The Pensacola Navy shooting, via NYT:
The gunman watched videos of mass shootings the night before the attack.

The Saudi trainee who carried out the attack on a Florida naval base showed videos of mass shootings at a dinner party the night before he carried out the shooting, according to a person briefed on the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly.

The gunman, who killed three people and injured eight others, did not have any apparent ties to international terrorist groups, according to a senior American official who was also not authorized to speak publicly.

The gunman, identified as Second Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, was killed by a sheriff’s deputy who responded to the attack. Lieutenant Alshamrani initially entered the United States in 2018, according to initial assessments by intelligence and counterterrorism officials. But at some point Lieutenant Alshamrani returned to Saudi Arabia and then re-entered the United States in February 2019.

Lieutenant Alshamrani and three other Saudi military trainees visited New York City, including several museums and Rockefeller Center, where the Christmas tree lighting was taking place, according to the person briefed on the investigation. Investigators are seeking to determine whether the trip was a tourist excursion during the Thanksgiving holiday week in New York, or whether the Saudi trainees had other motives or met with other people there.

Watching bits of Fox and Friends this morning, they are full on with calling the guy a terrorist and assuming the worst. They do not seem happy with Trump's laid back attitude towards the Saudi angle.

Houston police chief criticizes McConnell and Senate Republicans over guns: 'Whose side are you on?'

By Chandelis Duster, CNN
Updated 6:08 PM ET, Mon December 9, 2019

(CNN) Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republican lawmakers for not reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and taking action against gun violence, asking them in emotional remarks to choose between the nation's foremost gun lobby and "the children that are getting gunned down in this country every single day."

Acevedo made his remarks to reporters Monday as the Houston Police Department prepared to escort the body of Sgt. Chris Brewster, an officer who died in the line of duty, to a funeral home. The 32-year-old was shot and killed while responding to a call with a team on Saturday.

"I don't want to hear about how much they support law enforcement," Acevedo said. "I don't want to hear about how much they care about lives and the sanctity of lives yet, we all know in law enforcement that one of the biggest reasons that the Senate and Mitch McConnell and (Texas Sens.) John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and others are not getting into a room and having a conference committee with the House and getting the Violence Against Women's Act (passed) is because the NRA doesn't like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends. And who killed our sergeant? A boyfriend abusing his girlfriend. So you're either here for women and children and our daughters and our sisters and our aunts, or you're here for the (National Rifle Association)."

He continued: "So I don't want to see their little smug faces talking about how much they care about law enforcement when I'm burying a sergeant because they don't want to piss off the NRA. Make up your minds, whose side are you on? Gun manufacturers, the gun lobby, or the children that are getting gunned down in this country every single day."
