Even more terrifying, although the roads would have been better at that point and you actually could go sort of E-W. Underpasses might have been an issue though. I liked Heinlein's idea better, and still didn't think it was practical or reasonable when I read them.

Have you seen the episode of Mythbusters where they test if a plane can take off from a conveyor belt?Gregg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 6:21 amI was thinking about landing a fixed wing on it. If it was moving at about 45 MPH relative to the wind, you could set a Cessna down on it almost like a helicopter. The bus moving at the stall speed would pretty cool but you'd have to hit the brakes right away to keep the plane down.

Haven't they done that more than once? The important thing about a plane is speed of air over the wing to create lift. In theory you could take off with zero ground speed in a hurricane. Anyhow, with the conveyor belt, the plane would still move down the runway at the same speed but the wheels would be going twice as fast until take off.Slim Cognito wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 9:54 amOff TopicHave you seen the episode of Mythbusters where they test if a plane can take off from a conveyor belt?Gregg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 6:21 amI was thinking about landing a fixed wing on it. I saw a guy pretty much do that in a Piper Cub one time. Wind was blowing straight across the runway about 30 mph. He turned into the wind straight across the runway and couldn't have been going faster than walking speed when his wheels left the ground.

Mulvaney may last another couple of months
Aides are counseling Trump not to fire Mulvaney, as acting chief of staff changes course again
Lawyer says the acting chief of staff will follow Trump’s order not to cooperate.

President Trump has been threatening for weeks to fire acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, but senior advisers have counseled him to hold off on such a drastic step amid a high-stakes impeachment probe, according to three people familiar with the discussions.
Trum p has expressed particular anger over Mulvaney’s performance in an Oct. 17 news conference in which Mulvaney stunned White House aides by saying military aid to Ukraine was withheld to pressure its government to launch investigations that could politically benefit Trump, two of the people said. Later, Mulvaney issued a statement saying the media had misconstrued his televised comments and that “there was absolutely no quid pro quo.”
Senior advisers have cautioned Trump that removing Mulvaney at such a sensitive time could be perilous, the people said — both because Mulvaney played an integral role in the decision to freeze the aid, and because of the disruption that would be caused by replacing one of Trump’s most senior aides.
“I don’t think you’ll see him going anywhere until after December,” said one Trump adviser, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. “But the president was very unhappy with that press conference. That was a very bad day for the president.”

I stick with Mick. If trump wants him gone, Mick’s a goner. When has temper-tantrum Donnie ever paid heed to his advisors?

That WaPo article makes a good point. If Mulvaney's position vis a vis the subpoena is that he'd love to testify, but can't because the boss ordered him not to - and that was the thrust of his abortive intervention and withdrawn lawsuit - then firing him removes the obstacle to testifying.

What she said..... If they have been trying to talk him out of firing then he was intending to fire, and what she said. As to thinking rationally, about anything, NOT IN HIS WHEELHOUSE.

Jimmy Down the Hall? Aka, Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson?

President Donald Trump made his displeasure toward his hand-picked intelligence community inspector general known on Wednesday after the first public hearing in the impeachment investigation wrapped up.
When asked for his response to the testimonies of Ukraine diplomat Bill Taylor and State Department official George Kent, Trump complained that the investigation was a “situation that was caused by people that shouldn’t have allowed it to happen.”

Trump then complained about Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, who reported the whistleblower’s complaint about the call to Congress.
“I want to find out why the IG, why would he have presented that when in fact all he had to do was check the call itself, and he would have seen it,” Trump said.
The President’s comment came on the heels of a New York Times report on Trump’s private discussions with aides over whether he should fire Atkinson for not being sufficiently loyal to him.

How does Trump know that his IG DIDN'T check the call?

Trump seems to think that it's only his assessment of the call that matters.

I'm pretty darn sure that it was when he did check the call that it became a problem.

"My trip to the bank was perfect! I walked in with my gun in my pocket so it wouldn't scare anyone. I disclosed to the teller that I had the gun (and showed her a peek of it, just to prove I was tellng the truth) and handed her a note saying I wanted her to do me a favor and give me $50,000. I even told her not to press the panic button -- it wasn't needed because I wasn't robbing the bank. But someone saw me and thought I was robbing the bank. I wasn't! But I walked out before the cops came. Perfect! People go in banks all the time to do their banking, just like I did."

I believe that at the time the call aka transcript was nstill held on the safe server.
Re: Who's going to be the NEXT one to be underbussed?
How do we know that someone ON THE CALL didn't have a quiet chat with the IG?

Re: Who's going to be the NEXT one to be underbussed?
The IG has clearance for everything, else they cannot do their job. Even concealing the transcript on the codeword-level server wouldn't - at least theoretically - prevent them from seeing it.

I notice that Giuliani is not on the list of people to be voted off the island.
Giuliani made the claim that he had "insurance" against being thrown under the bus -- what he meant wasn't spelled out but the mere assertion suggests that the President's consiglieri has and is describing evidence so solid and so damaging that it would assure Trump's removal from office. And that inference alone suffices as if that evidence were presented and laid out in public!

Because Guiliani is not an official member of this administration.Fortinbras wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 5:24 pmI notice that Giuliani is not on the list of people to be voted off the island.

With Rudy's expected usual level of competence probably just really solid proof of his own guilt and complicity in highly illegal activities with and at the behest of Individual 1.

Rudy Giuliani found dead of apparent suicide. Found with 7 self inflicted gunshot wounds to the head
(that me joking about his 'insurance" he's not dead yet)

Rudy's idea of having a backup plan is to make sure he leaves his own fingerprints on the safe so when he says he saw Trump break in, he can prove he was there.
