Axios
Scoop: Trump letter dares Pelosi to hold vote on impeachment inquiry

The White House is planning to send Speaker Nancy Pelosi a letter as soon as Friday arguing that President Trump and his team can ignore lawmakers' demands until she holds a full House vote formally approving an impeachment inquiry, 2 sources familiar with the letter tell Axios.

Why it matters: By putting in writing the case that Trump and his supporters have been making verbally for days, the White House is preparing for a court fight and arguing to the public that its resistance to Congress' requests is justified.
Trump wants to force House Democrats in vulnerable races to be on the record if they favor pursuing impeachment, these sources tell us.

Republicans also say the minority party can exert more influence over hearings and other aspects of an inquiry once it is formalized with a vote.

By calling this an inquiry without holding a vote, Pelosi and the Democratic committee chairmen are having it both ways, one official said. "They want to be a little bit pregnant."
Worth noting: While a letter to Pelosi and the committee chairmen had been drafted, it had not been finalized or signed as of Thursday night.
Adding:
Daily Beast - Rick Wilson: Trump Is Going to Burn Down Everything and Everyone, and Republicans, That Means You

That press conference was terrifying. And congressional Republicans should be more afraid than anyone. Trump’s going down and taking them with him.

Yep. A coup occurred in 2016, and few people understand how serious the situation is. Remember when the media said people wouldn't tolerate people being torn from their families? Happens all the time, and children in cages have died.

‘TRUMP IS SCREWED!’ Internet erupts in laughter after Jared Kushner tapped to lead impeachment fight

October 4, 2019
By Brad Reed

President Donald Trump has reportedly tapped son-in-law Jared Kushner to lead the fight against House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.

As reported by CNN on Friday, the president is relying on Kushner and chief of staff Mick Mulvaney to come up with a plan aimed at beating back investigations launched by House Democrats into the president’s efforts to get Ukraine to dig up dirt on his political opponents.

Kushner has been the mastermind behind some of Trump’s biggest mistakes as president, most notably the decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey, which led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller and the conviction of multiple Trump associates for a wide array of offenses.

Given this, many people across the internet celebrated Kushner’s ascent to lead the impeachment fight, as they believe it signals the White House is completely doomed.

Check out some of the reactions below.

Impeachment War Room? Trump Does It All Himself, and That Worries Republicans

By Maggie Haberman and Annie Karni
Oct. 2, 2019

WASHINGTON — President Trump was watching television in the White House on Wednesday morning when cable news channels started airing Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Adam B. Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, warning at a news conference that any attempts by the president to stonewall their impeachment investigation would be viewed as obstruction.

Mr. Trump did not wait for Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Schiff to finish before responding. First he attacked Ms. Pelosi on Twitter, saying she was neglecting the work of Congress “and trying to win an election through impeachment.” Then he tweeted again, sharing a campaign video that accused Democrats of trying to undo the results of the 2016 election.

He continued those attacks later in the afternoon, both before and after a meeting with Sauli Niinisto, the president of Finland, and became increasingly angry as he went on.

Mr. Trump has long believed that he is the best communicator in the White House, but as the presidential campaign picks up its pace and the prospect of his impeachment becomes more real, he seems to be its only empowered communicator, a one-man war room responding to developments almost hour by hour. And that is making many Republicans anxious.

That's like President Moe arranging for Larry and Curly to handle his impeachment strategy, but without the charm, intellect and good looks.

Then there's this

Daily Beast
Trump Blesses Rudy Giuliani as His One-Man War Room

Rudy Giuliani—and to a lesser extent Jay Sekulow—has been the president’s first line of defense in an increasingly serious impeachment inquiry.

Donald Trump has emphatically told his aides that he does not need a White House “war room” to fight impeachment.

The president instead has opted for deploying his not-so-secret weapons—Jay Sekulow and Rudy Giuliani—to go on TV as much as possible to stick it to liberals and threaten Trump’s enemies.

In a series of private conversations over the past several days, the president has repeatedly encouraged his personal attorneys to closely coordinate and aggressively conduct a counter-messaging campaign against Democratic lawmakers’ impeachment inquiry. Trump has also asked them to keep him posted when they will appear on television shows and conservative media, according to two people with knowledge of the conversations.

What good is it to go on "conservative media?" Their viewers still back him. Sure, it will rile up the base, but will it bring back those swing voters who voted for him because Comey convinced them Clinton would eventually be indicted? Sure, the rest of the media will play clips of outrageousness but it will not be framed in ways that make trump look innocent. There are only so many Fox viewer/voters and, since they tend to be older, who knows how many of them buy the farm every week. I don't see their numbers going up.

But that's just me.

I don't think he's trying to persuade anyone of his innocence, least of all his supporters. He's doing what he always does, stalling, threatening, and blustering in the hopes that he can just wear down his opponents. Trump really only has one play and that's war of attrition. I hesitate to speculate on whether that will be successful for him this time, but it's certainly worked in the past. Expect we'll see more demonizing the news media and individual reporters by name as well as more attacks on specific Democratic names. Won't surprise me if we see "investigations" opened on Democrats he fears. We already know he's willing to use the full force of the federal government to get what he wants.

Concur. The playbook is obvious enough (we've seen it before):

1. Rally the base; GOTV.
2. Exhaust, confuse, divide, divert, or otherwise cause just enough in the middle to sit out.

The magic numbers are 34 (senators to stop removal) and 270 (electoral college votes). Everything else is a mean to those ends.

NBC News
White House plans to spurn Democrats' request for documents in impeachment inquiry

WASHINGTON — The White House is planning to spurn Democrats' request for documents sought as part of their impeachment inquiry as administration aides scramble to calibrate a legal response strategy.

White House lawyers plan to argue that until there is a formal vote by the House to begin impeachment proceedings, Congress doesn’t have the right to the information, said people familiar with the discussions.

“Well, we’ll be issuing a letter," President Donald Trump told reporters as he departed the White House Friday. Asked whether he was going to cooperate with any House subpoenas, Trump was noncommittal. ...

Trump had said Thursday he would leave the decision up to the lawyers on whether to cooperate with the congressional investigation into whether he used the power of his office to pressure Ukraine to investigate 2020 rival Joe Biden.

House Democrats have said they would subpoena White House officials by Friday if their demands were not met. Democrats said the panels would not consider contempt or any other penalties for noncompliance, and that White House failure to produce the documents would instead be used as evidence of obstruction for impeachment.

So let him get his ass handed to him in a series of courts that decline to tell The Speaker of the House how to run The House of Representatives, ending with an 8-0 Scotus Vote* to Affirm "cough the fuck up on the subpoenas" about the first week of March. So he ends up being forced to resign after the Republican chances of any Plan B candidate are well and truly fucked, on the Ides of March. Mitch, Lindsey and pretty much everyone goes down, and Kamala Harris is sworn in with Veto Proof majorities in both houses of congress. Party Split 330-105 in the House, 62-38 Senate.

Happy Place!

Too late for the Primaries, and that's the point. If Trump hangs on until March, the Republicans only choice is to run Mitt Romney with Devin Nunez to satisfy the trailer park crowd. And no money, no organization and pretty much the entire party running with the stench of the last 3 years on them.
