Intelligence panel has deal to hear whistleblower’s testimony

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff said Sunday that his panel has reached an agreement to secure testimony from the anonymous whistleblower whose detailed complaint launched an impeachment investigation into President Trump. ...

“I have handled this with great care, with great moderation, with great attention to what we knew was a fact or what was an allegation,” Pelosi said Saturday at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. “This is very bad news for our country, because if as it seems to be, our president engaged in something that is so far beyond what our founders had in mind.”

While privately favoring a rapid probe confined to the Ukraine allegations, Pelosi said Saturday that the investigation would last “as long as the Intelligence Committee follows the facts.”

In an appearance on ABC News’s “This Week,” Schiff (D-Calif.) echoed Pelosi’s message. He also said he expected the Intelligence Committee to hear from the whistleblower “very soon” pending a security clearance from acting director of national intelligence Joseph Maguire. ...

“We’ll get the unfiltered testimony of that whistleblower,” Schiff said, noting that Maguire said in a hearing Thursday that he would allow the whistleblower to testify privately without constraints.

One of the whistleblower’s attorneys, Mark Zaid, said in a statement that bipartisan negotiations in both chambers are ongoing “and we understand all agree that protecting whistleblower’s identity is paramount.” He added that no date or time for the testimony has been set.

BenedictDonald is now demanding to "meet" the whistleblower and his sources. Add witness intimidation to the impeachment counts.
Yikes! You weren't kidding.
Trump is acting kind of worried.

For once, McConnell's instincts were badly mistaken.
My reactions:

Trump lied to him about what a nothingberder the call was.

McConnell didn't read the MEMCOM.

The Turtle is tired of Trump and his crises du jour and mistakenly assumed the MEMCOM would shut the Dems up.

The Turtle is tired of Trump and his crises du jour and is setting Trump up for a fall.

Trump pulled one of his I KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS THAN ANYBODY tantrums, yelled at everybody, called everybody names and ORDERED the MEMCOM to be released DAMMIT.

CNN
Ukrainians named in whistleblower report say Trump's lawyer was clear about his hunt for dirt on Bidens

Kiev, Ukraine (CNN)Two Ukrainians named in the whistleblower report that touched off an impeachment inquiry into US President Donald Trump have told CNN that his personal lawyer actively pushed for an investigation into his political rivals' dealings in the country.

Andreii Telizhenko, who worked in the Ukrainian embassy in Washington between December 2015 and May 2016, says Rudy Giuliani approached him for a face-to-face meeting in May of this year.

And Sergeii Leschenko, an advisor to President Volodymyr Zelensky, says Giuliani began applying pressure on Zelensky's team to dig up dirt on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter shortly after the former comedian was elected in April 2019.

Each has a different perspective on the crisis -- Telizhenko believes that the issues surrounding Biden merit further investigation -- but both agree that Giuliani was open in his motivations.

Talking Points Memo (paywall): First, from the Journal, Secretary of State Pompeo was on the call. This is not surprising. He’s the Secretary of State after all. But still very notable and not at all good news for Pompeo. Even bigger from the Times, Trump also leaned on Australia to help discredit the Mueller probe – just in the last few weeks. Australia is a major treaty ally of the United States. Notably, this was another call that got stowed in the White House’s high crimes lock box.

What’s to ask Australia about?

It is all out there already

Key points:

Alexander Downer denies recording the meeting or having any ulterior motive
George Papadopoulos alleges that Mr Downer told him he "hated" Barack Obama
Mr Downer says that accusing him of being part of an international conspiracy is "a little bit sad"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national ... story.html
Attorney General William P. Barr has held private meetings overseas with foreign intelligence officials seeking their help in a Justice Department inquiry that President Trump hopes will discredit U.S. intelligence agencies’ examination of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the matter.

Barr’s personal involvement is likely to stoke further criticism from Democrats pursuing impeachment that he is helping the Trump administration use executive branch powers to augment investigations aimed primarily at the president’s adversaries.

But the high level Justice Department focus on intelligence operatives’ conduct will likely cheer Trump and other conservatives for whom “investigate the investigators” has become a rallying cry.

The direct involvement of the nation’s top law enforcement official shows the priority Barr places on the investigation being conducted by John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, who has been assigned the sensitive task of reviewing U.S. intelligence work surrounding the 2016 election and its aftermath.
Oh, and is this Australian PM the one who just got a state dinner at the WH?

CBS News
Trump wanted "compromising" information on Biden, former Ukrainian lawmaker says

A former member of the Ukrainian parliament and adviser to Ukraine's president told CBS News it was a "well-known fact" there that Donald Trump wanted "compromising" information on former Vice President Joe Biden. Serhiy Leshchenko added that Ukraine's president knew that U.S. aid to his country was at stake.

"I am sure that issue of Biden was forever on the table between Zelensky and Trump," said Leshchenko. As a former lawmaker and adviser to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, Leschenko believes it was clear that President Trump wanted Ukraine to investigate his Democratic rivals.

"Of course, he wanted political privileges, favors, for his re-election from Ukraine," he said. ...

In 2016, Leshchenko was at the center of exposing Paul Manafort's dealings in Ukraine. He said he recused himself from working with Zelensky in May this year, after it became clear that could threaten relations with President Trump's administration.

If anyone hasn't watched Maddow tonight, try to watch it on youtube. She does an excellent job laying out how all of this is really about Russia. Short version: Trump's attempt to get Ukraine to "strike a deal" with Putin is asking for a settlement of the invasion of Ukraine on Putin's terms. Sanctions were imposed on Russia after the 2014 invasion, and if they "make a deal" it paves the way for removal of those sanctions, Any "dirt" he gets on Biden is a side deal. Also, too, involving Barr and Pompeo and numerous foreign governments in an effort to "disprove" the Mueller reports conclusions that Russia interfered with the 2016 election is all about paving the way to get rid of the sanctions
imposed by the US on Russia for said interference.

It rather depressing, but convincing, and something to always keep in your mind about all of this.
