Manufacturing sector contracts for the first time in nearly a decade
The U.S. manufacturing PMI (purchasing managers index) was 49.9 in August, below the neutral 50.0 threshold for the first time since September 2009, according to IHS Markit.

New orders received by manufacturers dropped the most in 10 years, while the data also showed export sales tanked to the lowest level since August 2009, the data shows.

The survey is an initial reading for the month of August. The final figure will be released Sept. 3.

Yeah, trump. Take away all safety nets. Survival of the fittest. Check your world history and see what happened when a nation was divided between haves and have-nots. The have-nots didn't have to be in the majority before a sweeping change was made. Look ahead? That's not the American way.

Listed to Thom Hartmann yesterday. He shared his idle speculation that one way or another, the 2020 ticket will be Pence/Haley or Haley/Pence (he didn't specifiy which). Based on Haley's recent tweet of Pence approval.

I normally scorn idle speculation but I'm in a mood to enjoy this. Will tune in Monday for the next chapter.

"Enough of the false rumors," the former ambassador to the United Nations tweeted Wednesday afternoon. "Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support."

Mommy would never allow it, especially since Haley's an attractive woman.

Attractive or not, a married man cannot be together with another woman for long periods of time.

Theoretically, when would be the last point where they could ditch Trump?

The convention next summer, though the latest time when it would be practical is within the next couple months. A primary challenger would need to have a presence in every state to do the things necessary to have ballot access. But the only way it really happens is if Trump ends his campaign. The party infrastructure is controlled by the Trump campaign, thanks to Paul Manafort and Reince Priebus. The party on its face may allow a primary challenger, but they aren't bringing any delegates to the convention.

I don't know what to think about Yahoo News, but I can totally see the subject coming up. Even so, I don't see it happening, although I would love to see Pence drop kicked into the stands while the OSG introduces Ivanka as his new running mate.

Tensions mount between Trump, Pence camps heading into 2020 election

...But the relationship between their political teams has soured greatly in the past year, according to a dozen Trump and Pence aides and Republican advisers familiar with the dynamic. In particular, rumors that Kushner and Ivanka Trump wanted to consider replacements for Pence — specifically trying to find a woman running mate to help win back the suburbs in 2020 — have worried the vice president’s camp, according to Trump and Pence campaign advisers who spoke on background for this story.
...
In the spring, Pence’s aides went to Parscale to ask if he could include a question testing Pence’s favorability on a poll he was doing of battleground states, according to Trump campaign advisers familiar with the request. Parscale said it was too late to add the question to the poll — but what he didn’t tell Pence’s aides is that the question was already on the poll, done in 14 states. When the results came back, Pence’s favorability was higher than Trump’s — something Parscale and the campaign’s pollsters withheld from Trump and Pence. But Obst, Pence’s chief political aide who also works as a senior adviser on the Trump campaign, used a mole inside the president’s campaign to get a copy of one of the polls.
