Re: Weather Alerts
Well the tree man came, and he was so worried about a big crack on the back side of the Beach tree that he and a whole crew with bucket truck, bobcat, ropes and chainsaws were here at 8 this morning. He said it would hardly take anything to make the tree go right over onto the house. The other bad news is that the Oak has all it's massive weight leaning towards the Guest House now and has no counter weight for balance with a big chunk of back of the tree off. That one was not as urgent as they considered the Beach so they'll be back on Tuesday to take it down too. So we're losing them both
This is drastically going to change sunlight distribution at the back of the house, I have all shade loving stuff back there. Some bits will still get shade from the Hackberry, now the last large tree near the house, but it's never going to be the same back there.
The trees are here if you missed them...

Re: Weather Alerts
The flooding in the Midwest isn't going to end soon. It's been a very wet spring here in Minnesota - raining again today. My weather app alerts me to weather warnings and it's been giving me flood warnings for the Minnesota River for weeks. The Minnesota empties into the Mississippi, so that's just adding to the floods further downstream.
I drove down to NC Iowa yesterday and there are still fields with standing water. I did see a few farmers in the fields, but, by the end of May, all fields should be planted. My niece's husband says he's one of the few farmers in his area with all his crops in. My nephew in NE Iowa, who works for a tractor distributorship, says this has been an especially long planting season and there are still fields there yet to be planted. It's almost June!
I want two weeks of sunny, dry weather!!!!!!!!!!

Arkansas braces for possible "life-threatening" flooding
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/arkansas-b ... d=68151966
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/arkansas-b ... d=68151966
The river has already overtaken roads and devastated communities like Fort Smith, where homes and businesses are surrounded by water. The river is expected to crest Wednesday around 20 feet above flood stage, breaking a record set in 1945 and causing potentially catastrophic flooding.
Near Barling, Arkansas, Sunday, two Army Corps engineers assessing a dam had to be rescued by helicopter after they were trapped by the rising waters. Floodwaters are putting stress on dams and levees.
Barling police officer James Breeden told CBS News' Manny Bojorquez that he's never seen the water so high and worries about the levees holding up.
"There is a concern about the integrity of the levees. They have never been tested to this limit before," Breeden said. "The potential impact is literally tens of thousands of people would be without a place to live. It would wipe out that many homes."

BREAKING: Large, destructive tornado strikes Dayton as severe storms slam Ohio
BREAKING: Large, destructive tornado strikes Dayton as severe storms slam Ohio
Dayton, Ohio, and surrounding communities were under a tornado emergency as a large and destructive tornado was reported on Monday night.
The National Weather Service was calling it a life-threatening situation as the tornado swept through the heavily-populated area.
The tornado's path crossed directly over Interstate 75. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is urging people to avoid to avoid the area north of downtown Dayton. Snowplows are reportedly being used to clear debris off of the interstate.
A forecaster from WYMT-TV listening to scanner traffic from the Dayton area reported that rescue crews are "scrambling to mobilize" and "damage sounds catastrophic."
There have been reports of rescue crews going house to house looking for trapped residents.
A nearby weather radar indicated debris was lofted tens of thousands of feet into the atmosphere, indicating that a strong and dangerous tornado was on the ground.

On Memorial Day, 51 tornadoes were reported across eight states -- Idaho, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio -- and severe weather is forecast to continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
The biggest threat for tornadoes on Tuesday is from Kansas City into western Illinois. Parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania also are at risk again for tornadoes, while other areas including Oklahoma City and parts of Texas may again see damaging wind and hail.

Was sleeping when this was posted, but yes, both myself and Dawn are fine. She is a weather worrier like my mother was, so was pretty much up most of the night. Worrying. About the weather. I, apparently, was telling someone to not hit the horse in the middle of the road then something about bagels.
Anyway, yes, we are fine. North Dayton is a mess (we're South Dayton for those keeping track).

Ohio Emergency Management Agency says more than 5 million people are without power.Overnight and early morning pictures on social media showed strewn trees and severely damaged homes in the area. Law enforcement reported that the New Life Worship Center just north of Dayton was completely destroyed.
The City of Dayton asked residents to conserve water, as power has been lost at both water plants and pump stations. The City of Dayton also issued a boil water advisory for water customers in all of Dayton and Montgomery Counties, officials tweeted on Tuesday morning. The city set up water distribution centers at some Red Cross shelters and other locations.
Residents living in a mobile home park Northridge, a town just north of Dayton, told media they've been informed that they may be living without electricity for a week.

Some schools announced closures on Tuesday due to the storm damage. Shelters have opened up throughout the area. The shelter that was set up at Trotwood High School is being relocated after the school lost power.

Apparently the entirety of Pennsylvania is under tornado watch. I know Berks County (i.e., the county to our West) just upgraded to a tornado warning.

Not sure how describe something that looks beautiful and yet is extremely dangerous and deadly. It is fascinating how a larger tornado is but a small part of the storm cell.
