WaPo - Eugene Robinson
Trump’s claim that he supports legal immigration turns out to be a lie

The erratic Trump administration has had just one consistent policy principle, one guiding North Star: punitive and often sadistic treatment of nonwhite immigrants.

President Trump’s claim that he supports legal immigration, as opposed to the undocumented “invasion” he rails against, turns out to be — big surprise — a lie. On Monday, the administration proved its antagonism toward those who “stand in line” and “come in the right way” by issuing a new rule forcing many legal immigrants to make an impossible choice: accept needed government benefits to which they are fully entitled, or preserve their chances of obtaining permanent residence.

Say you’re an immigrant from Mexico who came here legally to join family members who are already permanent residents or citizens. Say you’re working a full-time minimum-wage job, plus odd jobs nights and weekends. You are a productive member of society. You are paying payroll taxes, sales taxes, vehicle registration fees and other government levies. Still, as hard as you work, you can’t make ends meet.

You may be legally entitled to health care through Medicaid. You may be entitled to food assistance through the SNAP program, formerly known as food stamps. You may be entitled to housing assistance. But according to the new Trump administration rule — set to take effect in two months — if you use any of these programs, you might forfeit the opportunity to ever obtain a green card making you a permanent resident. That means you also forfeit the chance of ever becoming a citizen. ...

Trump’s message to the world: Keep your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. As he memorably and disgracefully put it: “Our Country is FULL!”

Bus. Insider: FBI agents are livid that Trump is amplifying 'bulls--- theories' about Jeffrey Epstein's death 'that have no basis in reality':
FBI agents are horrified that President Donald Trump promoted a baseless conspiracy theory on Twitter suggesting the Clinton family was involved in the death of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The Justice Department announced that Epstein died by "apparent suicide" and there is no evidence that the conspiracy theory Trump retweeted has any merit.

"The Epstein case was hypercharged from the get-go," one current FBI agent, who requested anonymity to freely discuss Trump's actions, told INSIDER.

"The last thing investigators need is the president of the United States fanning the flames with these bulls--- theories that have no basis in reality."

Another agent told INSIDER that Trump's actions make the FBI's job harder as it combats homegrown extremism, particularly after its latest finding that conspiracy theories pose a new domestic-terrorism threat.

"It's not hyperbole to say that when the president makes up these stories — or promotes stories made up by others — he's putting innocent lives at risk," said one former senior Justice Department official.

Detroit News: Was Trump ever named Michigan's 'Man of the Year,' as he claims?

Washington — Since 2016, President Donald Trump has claimed that he received Michigan's "Man of the Year" award, and no one in Michigan seems to know what he is talking about.

Trump has repeated the claim at least six times since first bringing it up at a 2016 campaign rally in Sterling Heights, according to CNN. He raised the mysterious honor again Thursday night during a rally in New Hampshire.

FEC chair calls on Trump to provide evidence of NH voter fraud

The chairwoman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) is demanding that President Trump either provide evidence to support his claim that he would have won New Hampshire's electoral votes in 2016 if not for voter fraud, or cease mentioning the claim.

Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub, a Democrat, wrote in a letter to the president reported by CNN that Trump risks "undermining the faith" of the American electorate in the fairness of U.S. elections.

"Your voter-fraud allegations run the risk of undermining that faith," she wrote, according to CNN.

"To put in terms a former casino operator should understand," Weintraub added, "there comes a time when you need to lay your cards on the table or fold."

Weintraub's letter to the White House came a day after the president told supporters at a New Hampshire campaign rally that it wasn't their "fault" that he had lost the state in 2016, while insinuating that the state had been "taken" from his campaign.

Trump said "we should have won" New Hampshire, asserting, "It was taken away from us" and telling audience members that it was "not your fault."

Miller was on the front page of the NYT, which has pasrked Unending rage. AND the WaPo carried a Profile of him. That's the reason for a lot of the incoherent screaming.

Plus they could not hide the Empty seats in New Hampshire from his lying eyes. He's scared.

I do love those New York Times advertisements on the television. They're advertising themselves (oh yeah  ) by pointing out issues with Fred Trump and his taxes. They further point out that Trump is not self-made. It's not a political ad, believe me.

WaPo - Eugene Robinson
Trump is melting down. Again.

Uh-oh. President Trump is in such a state of panic about his dimming reelection prospects that he’s getting his lies mixed up and occasionally blurting out the truth.

“It’s tough for Apple to pay tariffs if it’s competing with a very good company [Samsung] that’s not,” the president told reporters Sunday — flatly contradicting the ridiculous and utterly false narrative that he has spent months trying to sell. Trump apparently forgot his standard lie that China is somehow paying “billions of dollars” in tariffs, acknowledging instead that they are taxes paid by U.S. companies and, ultimately, the American consumer.

This reflects more than just the difficulty of juggling multiple lies. Evidence suggests that Trump is melting down. Again.

And for good reason.

Fears of a global recession, greatly exacerbated by Trump’s erratic and self-destructive trade policies, have sent financial markets tumbling. A sharp downturn would close off one of the principal lines of attack the president was hoping to use against his Democratic opponent. He tried it out at a rally in New Hampshire last week: “You have no choice but to vote for me,” he told the crowd, “because your 401(k)’s down the tubes, everything’s gonna be down the tubes” if he loses. “So whether you love me or hate me, you gotta vote for me.”

I disagree. McConnell did not "pack " the courts. He just filled them up.

A Dem POTUS together with a Dem senat will probably have to pack the federal courts to avoid a total blockade. I doubt that a President Biden will do that.

White House clarifies Melania Trump hasn't met Kim Jong Un after Trump comment

The White House on Monday clarified that first lady Melania Trump has not met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after President Trump suggested at a press conference earlier in the day that she knew the dictator well.

The president was likening the prospect of negotiations with Iran to his efforts to denuclearize North Korea during a press conference to cap his visit to the Group of Seven (G-7) summit. Trump praised Kim, who he said recognizes the country's economic possibilities.

"Kim Jong Un — who I’ve gotten to know extremely well; the first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un, and I think she’d agree with me — he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential,” Trump said.

Cameras briefly showed the first lady sitting in the audience, where she remained expressionless.

The White House released a statement Monday afternoon about the remarks.

“President Trump confides in his wife on many issues including the detailed elements of his strong relationship with Chairman Kim — and while the First Lady hasn’t met him, the President feels like she’s gotten to know him too," said White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who also served as Melania Trump's spokeswoman.

<snip>
......... and North Korea has resumed testing of short-range missiles.

The president has said he does not believe the launches violate any agreement, though allies have said they breach a United Nations security resolution.

Prolly more of dementia, especially since it was Ivanka who actually went to North Korea with him and met Kim Jong Un. Just another time when he gets confused as to which one is his actual wife.
