Trump's first overseas trip.

Post #1 by Chilidog » Tue May 16, 2017 6:07 pm

He takes the carney show international!

This promises to be a very entertaining week.

I can't wait until he gives his planned speech on Islam in Saudi Arabia.

Thanks for starting this, it was on my mind we needed one to keep track. I've had a tab open with this story just waiting to be shared.

Goodbye Winter White House. Hello Desert White House.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to depart Friday on an eight-day, five-country tour that comes at a moment of major turmoil in his administration – and, as usual, he’ll be joined by a large traveling band of his top aides, who often stick close to the president for fear of being out of the loop, or diminished in power, if they stray from his side.

Son-in-law Jared Kushner, daughter Ivanka Trump, chief strategist Steve Bannon, chief of staff Reince Priebus, economic adviser Gary Cohn, deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, policy adviser Stephen Miller and press secretary Sean Spicer will all be along for major chunks of the trip, according to multiple White House officials. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will travel with Trump through the final stop in Sicily for the G7 conference, and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster will be along for the entirety of the trip.

If Trump reads a prepared speech, there might be some hope for the translators to do their job. But I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how someone can translate Trump's bizarre, disjointed stream of conscience word salads.

Will they be allowing the US press pool to ride along with them?

While they're gone, cancel their passports. Put them on the no fly list. Give them laptops and shoe :explode: just before they go thru security.

Please don't let them back in!!

Word is that Steven Miller is writing the speach on Islam

What could possibly go wrong with that?

It would be a horrible tragedy if Air Force One were to suddenly explode in a ball of flame over the Atlantic Ocean.

I wonder who will volunteer to be on a different plane? Surely they aren't all going to be packed into AF 1?

His speech to the Arab world will be equal parts bragging about what a bigly tremendous job he's doing/his yuge election victory, and equal parts lecturing Muslims on how they really need to speak out against terrorism. What could possibly go wrong?

The NYTimes reported earlier today that Trump sought to shorten his trip from 9 days to five days:

For his part, Mr. Trump, a confirmed homebody, has expressed dread about the trip, asking aides whether it can be shortened to five days from nine. His advisers concede that the intense schedule — dozens of interactions with leaders from the Middle East and Europe, over a range of delicate issues — could produce unscripted, diplomatically perilous moments.

Also Thursday The SFV was going to do lunch with the network anchors, off the record.

But who knows now.

First major international relations mistake: Letting Trump go to foreign countries where he will undoubtedly rub people the wrong way.

Second and worse major international relations mistake: Letting Trump back into the United States.

I know corporations have rules about that...
Off Topic
Back when I worked for DEC, I ended up bumped to commercial for one of my many trips to Ottawa because the brass took over most of the DECair fleet to go off somewhere.. there were limits on how many VP-and-above could be on a single plane..

Let me tell you, there is a big difference between a trip on the Westwind and a trip on a third-tier puddlejumper out of Logan..
