You know what wall worked pretty well? The Berlin Wall. Is that where we really want to go?

Apples to oranges. The Berlin Wall was how many miles? 91? Unless they patrolled it and had guard towers, there were escapes right and left. How many thousand miles will this wall be? Without guard towers it will be broached right and left.

Pancho Villa, prostitutes and spies: The U.S.-Mexico border wall's wild origin story

On an August afternoon in 1918, a mysterious man approached the U.S.-Mexico border in the bustling town of Nogales.

For decades, the boundary between the two countries had been little more than an imaginary line in the sand, marked only by the occasional - often crumbling - pillar in the Sonoran desert. But rampant smuggling, the Mexican Revolution and the outbreak of World War I had split the border town in two, sowing fear and stoking tensions.

As the man walked towards Mexico, where Mexican soldiers were waving him on, a U.S. Customs inspector suddenly ordered him to halt.

Unheeded and suspecting the man was a smuggler, the customs inspector drew his gun.

So did two American soldiers, one of whom would later say he thought the man was one of the many German spies rumored to be trying to draw Mexico into war with the United States.

Yards away, Mexican officials also shouldered their rifles. When one fired, hitting an American soldier in the face, both sides of the border erupted in gunfire.

 Maybe someone should suggest to Trump that he build the wall out of coal? Good quality coaI could be polished to a shiny black mirrored, really classy.
OMFSM - remember thos burning coal seams, the Centralia Mine Fire

Of course this would be the new tourist attraction - The Burning Wall will make The Burning Man look like its small brother. Entrepreneurs will have near orbit flights - Watch Teh Wall Burn from outer space

It worked very well cause it was patroled by soldiers with a command to shoot on sight, it was a 20 mile limited access border area with special passes for locals, and least but not last there was a mine zone and self-shooter traps set out. It was designed to keep people from leaving.

How large do they think that those assets have been in the past? And it is not a stable income source to plan anthing serious on. Apart that any such law will get exploited and people will have their assets stolen by government agencies. Least and not last government agencies that receive such assets will need other funds instead.

Looks like the Gofundme Wall Campaign is officially over and guess what? Mr. Kolfage is starting a 501(c)4 to build the wall himself. He claims he will not be taking any compensation...yeah, right. Who didn't see this coming?

I know why it worked so well. I'm sure that's all twitler would have to know about it. He wouldn't care about the collateral damage, which, of course, wasn't really collateral.

Twitter is full of conflicting information. (Shocking, I know.) Some are saying that gofundme will issue refunds to every contributor, but that they will have the option for forwarding their contribution to Kolfage's organization.

From the gofundme page:
You MUST tell GoFundMe you still want to Build the Wall or your contribution will not be included in this historic project.

* * *

If you want a refund for your donation, no need to do anything. You will receive your refund a few weeks after the 90 days expires and GoFundMe will notify you once your refund has processed. If you would prefer a refund now, you can request that . . . .

MarketWatch:
“We Build the Wall” has assembled a board of directors led by Kolfage and engaged an impressive team of advisors to provide critical guidance on the project’s legal, engineering, contracting, environmental, accounting, maintenance, and real estate issues and serve on the advisory board and or the construction, finance and or audit committees:

Kris Kobach — Secretary Kobach served as the Secretary of State of the State of Kansas from 2011-2019. A leader in the national effort to stop voter fraud, he drafted and pushed for the Kansas Secure and Fair Elections (SAFE) Act of 2011, which made Kansas the first state in the Union to combine photo ID requirements at the polls, equivalent ID requirements for mail-in ballots, and proof of citizenship at the time of registration.

John Daniel Moran, Jr. — Mr. Moran is an American businessman, entrepreneur and industrialist best known for his role as President & CEO of Moran Industries, Inc., a premier warehousing, logistics and transportation company based in Pennsylvania that was founded in 1975.

Erik Prince — Mr. Prince is an American businessman and Navy SEAL best known as the founder of the security firm Blackwater. He serves as Chairman of Frontier Resource Group, a private equity fund investing in natural resource opportunities in frontier markets.

Dr. Robert S. Spalding III, Brig Gen, USAF (Ret.) — General Spalding is an accomplished innovator in government and a national security policy strategist. He was the chief architect of the framework for national competition in the Trump Administration’s widely praised National Security Strategy (NSS), and the Senior Director for Strategy to the President.

“Angel Dad” Steve Ronnebeck — Mr. Ronnebeck lost his 21-year-old son Grant, who was brutally executed by a criminal illegal immigrant over for a pack of cigarettes while working at a convenience store in 2015. Steve has dedicated himself to protecting other families from suffering needless tragedies at the hands of people who have no business being here in the first place through his work with the Ronnebeck Foundation. He is frequently seen campaigning with President Trump.

“Angel Mom” Mary Ann Mendoza — Ms. Mendoza lost her son Brandon in 2014, after his police car was hit by an intoxicated driver who was in the U.S. illegally. She is one of several parents who have been meeting with President Trump about how to tighten restrictions on immigrants in the country illegally.

Sara Carter — Ms. Carter is an award-winning Fox News commentator who specializes in reporting on the border and opioid crisis.

Sheriff David Clarke — Sheriff Clarke is an American former law enforcement official who served as Sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. He is an outspoken activist and commentator on illegal immigration.

Congressman Tom Tancredo — Mr. Tancredo is a former United States Congressman who has been referred to as Congress' most vociferous critic of current immigration policy. He served in the Reagan Administration and ran for President of the United States in the 2008 election.
...and the griftees are loving it.

To show the government how “We the People” can get this done, we have formed a Section 501(c)(4) non-profit Florida Corporation named “We Build the Wall, Inc.” to receive the GoFundMe contributions. Our website can be found at www.webuildthewall.us.
EDIT
My bad. His corporate registration doesn't have spaces. It's WeBuildTheWall, Inc.
To which Trump replied, Fuck the law. I don't give a fuck about the law. I want my fucking money.

Trump backs away from declaring national emergency over wall

Trump will likely be embarrassed about ending his very public pursuit of a national emergency.

But spare a thought for Lindsey Graham, Trump foe-turned-Trump-sycophant, who was faithfully tagging along with the president’s national emergency line as recently as... two hours ago.

Mr. President,

It’s extra embarrassing for Graham given he had been skeptical earlier this week about whether an emergency declaration would work, before shifting behind the idea. Oops!

This has disaster written all over it.

GoFundMe is refunding the $20 million that was raised for the "Build the Wall" campaign, after the man who started the campaign broke his promise of returning donor money if the campaign didn't reach its goal.

Maybe I'm confuzzled, but how does a private company build a wall on somebody else's private property without their permission? And I sure can't see the gov allowing it. It's not like they're getting a gov contract.

I see a huge potential for fraud, funding study after study after study, while the grifters advisory board finds ways to pocket a big chunk of it.

Short answer: Thoughts and prayers.

Slightly longer: the "thought" is that the property owners, in an exuberance of self-interest patriotism, would grant no- (or "low-") cost easements to the new non-profit.

Which sounds vaguely extortive: "There's going to be a wall five miles on either side of your property. It would be a shame if the bad hombres figured out yours was the only property without a wall."

The reality is this iteration is so under-baked that it is obvious it is intended to be make-busy work while the grifters pocket the donations before throwing up their hands and saying, "Welp, we tried!"

Posting here since it's not a tweet from DOTUS. I am still  over the human trafficking like what's in the clip below and he's described elsewhere. Is he saying that the ebil bad guys are crossing the border and capturing white women? Where are they taking them to traffic them? Back to Mexico? Selling on the streets of the US? And I still haven't seen any media reports on this horrible thing, not even Fox and Friends.
This afternoon, President Trump hosted a roundtable discussion with State, local, and community leaders, who spoke on how the crisis at the border is negatively impacting communities across our Nation.

Part two below. Who is the guy with the hat on indoors?
This is common sense. Congress must pass a bill that ends the crisis at our border.

from the link in the tweet
Rather than financing federal efforts to build the wall, We Build The Wall plans to go the route that its name suggests and finance construction on its own, according Stockton. He said the group to secure enough funding from its initial GoFundMe supporters to build “at least two miles” along the southern border, which is nearly 2,000 miles long.

Two miles of sort of a wall out in no-mans-land that will never get guarded not maintained in the long run, and and imigrants will just walk around it, what are 30 minutes extra to the days they were marching :brickwallsmall:

PS. nobody even guaranteed that the CBP will even give them a patch of public land.

There are so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start, but coming from my experience as a credit person making credit decisions about whether to extend credit to ABC contractor, this would be a no go. Cash up front.
