Neyt. He's good with high pricing so long as winning bidders pass some payments along to him. Maybe buy some Trump property for double its value.

Why not just put up the chain link fence and call it a day?

She won't be on the Mexican side of the border, she'll just be on the "out" side of the fence. The fence is not the border is not the fence.

But if she wants to expatriate herself, I won't stand in her way.

There's the price on the contract and the much lower price Trump actually pays before he decides he can stiff his supplier.

Or maybe he plans to declare DHS and CBP bankrupt so they escape their liabilities. Trump bringing his great business practises into government, tremendous!

And the nutcases are on it.

Illinois contractor bidding to build Trump's border wall — with a tourist draw

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ ... story.html
"I think the most outstanding thing about our proposal is just the route," said Hari, whose nascent company, Crisis Resolution Security Services, is housed in a former bank building in Clarence, an unincorporated community of less than 100 people about 50 miles south of Kankakee.

Following interstate and other major highways, Hari proposes cutting about 500 miles off the 2,000-mile route and leaving large swaths of U.S. land — Marfa, Texas, for example — south of the border wall. At its farthest, Hari's proposed wall is 100 miles from Mexico, but he's not ceding any territory. Rather, he is letting the rough terrain serve as a natural deterrent and a zone for border patrol agents to intercept people who've crossed the border illegally.

:snippity:

Hari's proposal calls for two 26-foot concrete walls built on a 30-foot packed earth berm. In between the two walls would be more packed earth, topped by a narrow pedestrian roadway, like the Great Wall of China. That would turn the border wall into more than a barrier to illegal immigration. Hari foresees a traversable tourist attraction on par with the Washington Monument.

"They can use it for patrolling, but it's more for the public," he said. "People can go up there, walk it or bicycle it. We're probably the only ones who have submitted a proposal making it recreational."
He seems to have overlooked the requirement that- "Bidders must have done border security or similar projects worth $25 million in the past five years to qualify." ;)

Kelly: No border wall 'from sea to shining sea'

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/05/politics/ ... rity-wall/
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said Wednesday it is "unlikely" that the Trump administration will build a full wall along the entire Southern border, despite President Donald Trump's consistent promises to that effect.

"It is unlikely that we will build a wall, a physical barrier, from sea to shining sea," Kelly told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Wednesday morning.

Kelly did say it is still "very likely" that more border barriers will be built, but that they will be strategic.

Border Wall Could Cost 3 Times Estimates, Senate Democrats’ Report Says
By RON NIXONAPRIL 18, 2017

WASHINGTON — A report released on Tuesday by Senate Democrats found that President Trump’s plans to build a border wall could cost more than three times as much as initial estimates, adding that the administration has yet to provide Congress with evidence to show that a wall would be effective in stopping the flow of illegal immigration and drugs.

The report said the border wall could cost nearly $70 billion to build and $150 million a year to maintain. An internal report by the Department of Homeland Security said the wall could cost about $21.6 billion, not including maintenance.

The new report, which was prepared by the Democratic staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, also found that the construction of a wall would require taking hundreds of acres of private land at a cost of millions to taxpayers and would divert money from crucial mobile video surveillance technology.

You have the Boss, now you just have to find the money....
Build the wall and make El Chapo pay for it, says Ted Cruz
Mr Cruz wants the infamous Mexican drug lord to fund the wall with seized assets

Emily Shugerman New York Tuesday 25 April 2017 23:12 BST

Senator Ted Cruz has proposed a novel idea to fund President Donald Trump’s wall around the US-Mexico border: Use the $14 billion that US prosecutors are seeking from Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.

“Today I introduced the EL CHAPO Act, which reserves billions in forfeited assets to pay for border security,” Mr Cruz tweeted. “Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe.”

A spokesperson for Mr Cruz’s office confirmed the bill was introduced to Congress.

Guzman was extradited from Mexico to the US in January, on charges of operating a multi-billion dollar, multi-national criminal drug enterprise. Prosecutors regularly seize the assets of drug dealers and traffickers, though it is unclear how they arrived at the $14 billion sum.

El Chapo probably has considerably more assets than Trump's measly 3.5 billion, but he still doesn't have near enough to build even half a wall.

Mick Mulvaney Spins For Trump: 'We Haven't Done The Math' On The Wall
By Karoli Kuns
5/02/17 12:37pm

This post appears in The Wall, part of our ongoing series Broken Promises, a project to track the campaign promises of Donald Trump and if they hold true.

I think we can all agree that OMB Director Mick Mulvaney has one of the most punchable faces in the government right now, and he did nothing today to discourage me from the urge to act on it.

Apparently Trump was quite upset that Democrats were doing a victory lap on the continuing resolution through September, so he sent Mulvaney out to spin, especially on The Wall, which did not receive any funding. In fact, the funds allocated for border security carry a specific requirement that they NOT be for a wall. Nevertheless, Mulvaney was sent out for the duration of what should have been Sean Spicer's press conference, and specifically to spin on The Wall.

Here's the transcript of exchange between Mulvaney and reporters:

Listening into the video clip I found one astonishing statement (is it really there?): The Trump administration will start not on empty space where they can add a Wall extension to get more security, no, they want to start by replacing the existing wall parts "cause the roads and access are already there, and the government already owns the land". As if the current wall is leaking migrants thru by the thousands.

PS. I guess the first wall sections from the '90s may have deficiencies by todays standards and after 30 years in the weather may need some renovations.

New York Daily News
El Chapo's money nowhere to be found after Ted Cruz proposes drug lord should foot border wall bill

The feds have hit a wall when it comes to seizing El Chapo’s money.

After Texas Sen. Ted Cruz proposed a plan last month to stick reputed drug cartel king El Chapo with the tab for President Trump’s much-ballyhooed border wall, it was revealed Wednesday that American authorities have not been able to find a trace of his dirty money.

According to Mexico’s attorney general, getting the jailed drug lord — whose real name is Joaquin Guzman — to foot the border bill is as reasonable as expecting him to turn over a new leaf.

“As of today, U.S. authorities have not found not even one dollar of El Chapo’s assets,” Mexican Attorney General Raul Cervantes said in a local TV interview.

A federal indictment in the United States seeks the forfeiture of more than $14 billion of drug proceeds and illicit profits allegedly derived from the Sinaloa Cartel’s activities. ...

“His money hasn’t been found because he didn’t use the financial system,” he added.

That is all just so funny, politicians shooting their mouths off without knowing any of the facts, teh Cruzer of course, and then none of them knowing what was going on. And truly sad, in the just how dumb and out of the loop can you be sort of sad.

I think he's got more pressing things to worry about right now other than campaign promises he never intended to keep. It's real easy to make promises, just real hard to make Congress pay for them when their constituents are yelling for their heads over things they've already done.

Aren't the assets that are seized from narco-trafficers usually in the form of illegal narcotics? Even if the DEA had seized $14B worth of heroin, that is street value. The government can't sell the drugs, so they're legally worthless.

Guzman may have had as much as a million or two with him when he was arrested, but if he has anywhere near $14B, it is in Mexico. With the current diplomatic climate between the US and Mexico, I doubt that they will be too interested in cooperating with the US in seizing the money.

DHS to start building border wall prototypes this summer
BY JOHN BOWDEN - 06/27/17 06:08 PM EDT 573

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin building prototypes for President Trump's proposed wall along the Mexican border this summer, authorities said on Tuesday.

Agency officials said at a news briefing that the department is ready to begin testing designs on land that is already owned by the government. Four to eight designs will be built and tested, but officials didn't say when the process would actually begin.

“We own that land, have access to it and it’s a good place to start testing in a real-world environment,” acting deputy commissioner Ronald D. Vitiello told reporters at the briefing.

Funding for Trump's border wall was not included in the budget submitted by the White House for fiscal year 2018, but DHS has allocated $20 million from other programs to pay for the prototypes.

Officials at U.S. Customs and Border Protection told The Washington Post that they have received "hundreds" of designs for the border wall, but the agency has yet to choose vendors.

Hey! They should be returning that land to ranchers, miners, and other poots, shouldn't they? The government ain't supposed to own any land outside of DC!

Michell Fiore should write the White House and let them know the wall is illegal. 8-)
