Do we have a poll yet for who the leaker is? My guess is KellyAnne. Or Pence.

trump has hired his match in despicability in Mulvaney. He’s dangerous on a couple fronts, I think. He’s smart and knows his way around Washington; he’s a tea party ideologue. Not much dirt on him though.

ETA:
Mick Mulvaney, who wears dual hats as OMB Director and head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, admitted to a conference of bankers this week that he operated as a pay-to-play Congressman before he joined the Trump White House. “We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress,” Mulvaney said. “If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.” Mulvaney took more than $60,000 from payday lenders during his time in Congress. At the helm of the CFPB, he has appeared to pay them back by moving to reverse Obama-era regulations protecting consumers from the notorious industry. Mulvaney reportedly concluded his remarks to the bankers by underscoring how personal lobbying was “fundamental underpinnings of our representative democracy. And you have to continue to do it.” The takeaway for the Trump era seemed abundantly clear: Pay up or get shut out.

No one seems to care anymore about the bottom-feeding hypocrites munching away at Democracy. Unless, of course, they’re Democrats. I’m more incensed by the day at what happened to our most reliable, effective liberal, Al Franken. In comparison to what we know about Republicans, his offense is as about as offensive as a kindergartener who kissed a girl and ran away.

If the tweet is correct and it was someone from Frontline America who held down the MAGA attacker until LE arrived, it was probably Ben Bergquam, a real charmer. I'm surprised he didn't help the MAGA attacker instead.

this incident happened during Cuomo's show and they had just gone to the live shot. They had Trump way in the background. I don't think the network realized what happened, they were just cutting in to ask the reporter if he said anything about the possible border security deal.

Was just presented the concept and parameters of the Border Security Deal by hard working Senator Richard Shelby. Looking over all aspects knowing that this will be hooked up with lots of money from other sources....

....Will be getting almost $23 BILLION for Border Security. Regardless of Wall money, it is being built as we speak!

Trump touts deal as providing $23 billion for border security

President Trump on Tuesday appeared to express openness to a border security deal reached by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, suggesting that it could be combined with other funds to build his desired wall along the southern border.
..............
Trump's latest comments on the arrangement came after he and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), the chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, reviewed the particulars of the deal.

The proposal would provide $1.375 billion in funding for roughly 55 miles of new barriers along the southern border, well short of the $5.7 billion Trump demanded late last year when he triggered a partial government shutdown that lasted 35 days.

Shelby told reporters that he explained to the president that the agreement contained nearly $23 billion in total funding. The senator added that he did not ask Trump if he would sign the bill, calling the question "premature."

While a number of conservatives initially criticized the deal for failing to properly address border security, some of the president's allies, including Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), have suggested they expect him to sign the legislation to avert another government shutdown.

Trump's tweet on Tuesday evening suggests the president is softening his stance toward the arrangement. <SNIP>

I don't know exactly what this funding is for: the agreement contained nearly $23 billion in total funding.

Cruz urges Senate to pass bill to make 'El Chapo,' drug lords pay for border wall

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Tuesday urged fellow senators to take swift action in passing his bill to make Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and other drug lords pay for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
..............
Cruz reintroduced the bill Jan. 3.

“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way to secure our southern border, and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals," he wrote in a statement at the time. "By leveraging any criminally forfeited assets of El Chapo and other murderous drug lords, we can offset the cost of securing our border and make meaningful progress toward delivering on the promises made to the American people."

The U.S. government is reportedly seeking $14 billion from Guzmán as part of its prosecution of the drug kingpin.

Key GOP senator pitches Trump: Funding deal a 'downpayment' on wall

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) on Tuesday evening pitched President Trump on the agreement to prevent a second government shutdown, telling the president that the funding was a "downpayment" on a U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Shelby said the president was "concerned" because the deal doesn't give him "everything he wanted."

"I told him I shared that, we all do. But realizing after I talked with him … that he's getting a good downpayment," Shelby added, describing the president's tone on the deal.

The agreement struck on Monday night would fund roughly a quarter of the government through Sept. 30 and provide $1.375 billion for physical barriers along the border. Shelby added that the agreement would provide more than $22 billion on border security—a figure that appears to have resonated with the president.
..............
Shelby's meeting with Trump comes after Senate GOP leaders, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), were supportive of the agreement earlier Tuesday.

Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican, called the barrier money, which is significantly below the $5.7 billion Trump asked for during the previous 35-day shutdown, a "downpayment" for the larger $25 billion Trump wants over several years.

McConnell also said he believes Trump should sign the agreement, saying the president "got a pretty good deal here."

This is how we got a big trump baby as President - Fred and Ginger* subscribed to the Dudley Dursley ‘placate him at all costs, he’s such a howling mess when he's frustrated’ school of parenting. I can’t even imagine the little martinet’s lecturing of the officials -“I’m president, I can say anything I want. It’s in the Constitution. How dare you contradict me.” Did he follow it with “Off with your head!”?

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

The Gallup Poll just announced* that 69% of our great citizens expect their finances to improve next year, a 16 year high. Nice!

10:01 AM - 13 Feb 2019
* Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted Jan. 2-10, 2019, with a random sample of 1,017 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. For results based on the total sample of national adults, the margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/246602/ame ... yndication
Partisanship Plays a Role in Perceptions of Past and Future Finances
Members of most major demographic groups are more likely in 2019 to say their financial situation has improved in the past year than to say they are worse off -- with Democrats the one major exception. By 37% to 32%, more Democrats say that compared with a year ago, they are worse off financially rather than better off. However, among some of the key groups that generally vote Democratic, a plurality or majority say they are better off.
  • Sixty-two percent of those under 30 say they are better off; 25% say worse off.
  • Forty-five percent of women say they are better off; 29% say worse off.
  • Forty-five percent of those with annual household incomes of less than $40,000 say better off, 35% worse off.
  • Among liberals, 40% say better off, 31% worse off.
Republicans are at the other end of the spectrum, with 68% saying they are better off, and only 10% saying worse off. Among groups that are more Republican than the national average, 66% of conservatives say they are better off, as do 57% of those with annual incomes of at least $100,000 and 56% of men.

Both Republicans and Democrats significantly changed their perceptions of how they were doing financially when the 2016 presidential election replaced outgoing Democrat Barack Obama with Republican Donald Trump.

The two most recent times the question was asked before Trump's election, in January 2015 and January 2016, as many Republicans -- 37%, on average -- said they were worse off as said they were better off. In the two polls since Trump has taken office, one in January 2018 and one last month, a robust majority of 67% have said they are better off, compared with 13% saying "worse off."

Democrats, who were more than twice as likely to say they were better off (58%) rather than worse off (24%) in the two pre-Trump-election polls, have reversed field, with 35% saying they are better off and 38% saying worse off in the two post-Trump-inauguration polls.

The best way to resist Trump? Beto and El Paso show us how it's done
Thanks to Beto O'Rourke and the people of El Paso, Trump's first big rally of 2019 was a bust. Resistance, learn!

There is little doubt in my mind that Donald Trump went to El Paso, Texas, on Monday night hoping to create an ugly scene. Thecity, which shares a border with Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, is about 80 percent Latino and voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump by a whopping 43 points in 2016. With his already impossible border wall plan slipping out of his fingers, his stubbornly high disapproval ratings, and the number of investigations into his corruption multiplying, Trump turned to his old standby -- racist trolling -- in an obvious effort to distract the media and wind up his supporters.

Well, on Monday night, former Rep. Beto O'Rourke and the fine people of El Paso created an elegant solution that allows progressives to speak out without feeding the Trump propaganda machine: Instead of a protest, hold a counter-rally.

Dubbed the "March for Truth" and organized by more than 50 local groups, the counter-rally did much more than protest the hate fest being held by Trump a few blocks away. It uplifted the city with heartening images showcasing the community of El Paso, and rejecting Trump's efforts to demean border residents with racist stereotypes.

Progressives need to pay close attention to this success story. There's little doubt that the backbone of Trump's campaign for 2020 will be his big rallies, which are always meant to be culturally divisive and racially provocative. Trump thrives on sowing distrust and racial animus, winning over voters who may not like him but are vulnerable to propaganda attacks that frame white people as victims of "political correctness." Any images of direct conflict between protesters and the MAGA-hat faithful will be repurposed for this cause.

Of course. I knew Michael Stipe, Bill Berry, Peter Buck and Mike Mills would be pissed with Trump using their music.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/rem- ... er-removed
R.E.M. wants President Donald Trump’s hands off their music, thank you very much.

The publisher of the rock band asked Twitter to remove a video Trump tweeted of his State of the Union speech that included their hit song “Everybody Hurts” late Friday night, according to CNBC. The video was originally created by pro-Trump Twitter account @CarpeDonktum.

Mike Mills, the band’s bass guitarist, called the makers of the video “assholes” when he first caught wind of it and asked Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to take it down.
CNBC confirmed on Saturday that a lawyer for Universal Music Publishing Group successfully got Twitter to remove the video.

Meanwhile, R.E.M.’s official Twitter account made their feelings about Trump crystal- clear.
