A lot of what trump says is stupid, plain and simple. But the Thomas Edison* thing and the wheel thing, that's just scary. Like, maybe grandpa needs daycare scary.

*who, ironically, stole a lot of Tesla's ideas if I'm not mistaken. And, no, if that is correct, I wouldn't expect trump to know it. I would expect Obama to know it, but not trump. If it's not true, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama knows that, as well.

1. The RNC announces its winter retreat will be at Trump's Doral golf club.

2. Rates are around $254.

3. Trump changes his plans and decides to attend.

4. Rates at Doral double to $539.

5. Taxpayers foot a higher bill for Trump's protection.

In all fairness, before he gets his Adderall in the morning, Trump probably thinks HE invented the wheel, and is pissed the damn Chinamen aren't paying him a royalty every time they build a car.

Some nuggets from A Very Stew Genius.
At a long table in the State Dining Room, Steve Bannon, one of the inspirations of Trump’s “American carnage” address, could not stop looking at Nancy Pelosi. In the Democratic House leader, he saw Katharine Hepburn from The Lion in Winter—who looks up and down the table and thinks to herself, “These men are all clowns,” and plots her return to power.
Meanwhile, a White House staffer gave the other crew members instructions about what they could and could not do with the president. The very first rule was for the makeup artist: Do not touch the president’s hair. On his face, light powder only. The next instruction was for the technical crew: Could they make the lighting a little more orange? The president preferred a warm glow on camera. The mention of “orange” struck some in the room as an odd choice. Outside the bubble of the White House, late night TV show hosts and cartoonists had been mocking the perpetually orange hue of Trump’s skin.

34 Troops Have Brain Injuries From Iranian Missile Strike, Pentagon Says
A Pentagon spokesman said that eight of the affected service members returned to the United States from an American military hospital in Germany.

By Helene Cooper
Jan. 24, 2020 Updated 5:42 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON — The Defense Department said Friday that 34 American service members have traumatic brain injuries from Iranian airstrikes on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq, contradicting President Trump’s dismissal of injuries among American troops this week.

A Pentagon spokesman, Jonathan Hoffman, told a news conference that eight of the affected service members have returned to the United States from an American military hospital in Germany.

On Wednesday, Mr. Trump dismissed concussion symptoms felt by the troops as “not very serious,” even as the Pentagon acknowledged that a number of American service members were being studied for possible traumatic brain injury caused by the attack.

“I heard they had headaches,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference in Davos, Switzerland. “I don’t consider them very serious injuries relative to other injuries I have seen.”

Comment: I conclude that the Iranian attack was very effective. I also repeat my observation that the US troops had no anti-aircraft measures ready to counter any kind of attack. I remember a statement, that "the US forces had the missiles on their radar screens and followed them all way into Iraq" :brickwallsmall:

On a less entertaining note:

I have been edgy because the entire impeachment focuses on the phone call to the Ukrainian president in July 2019. Nothing about abandoning the Kurds, about violating the War Powers Act, about violating the Geneva Conventions, about failing to rehab Puerto Rico, about the kids in cages, about the Emoluments clause and his resorts/hotels, and lots more. It's as if Trump was doing just fine right up to that phone call to Ukraine in July 2019.

We know there were plenty of other examples of impeachable behavior having nothing to do with the Ukraine. Yet these are not being used.

I feel that way as well. When Trump won, I sobbed for days about the DACA kids, about the harm that would be done to asylum seekers, about people not evangelicals, not Northern European in appearance, females in general and of childbearing age in particular, etc.

The Ukraine stuff has documents, whistleblowers, Trump tweets, etc. to support it. And so it begins, I hope, to more disclosures and more whistleblowers to bring down our current dictator as he is exposed as the emperor with new "clothes."

I agree. This impeachment is some kind of sick joke. It is as if he did murder someone on 5th avenue and the cops busted him for jaywalking.

There are audio tapes coming out in the middle of the trial! I cannot imagine voting against getting witnesses and documents knowing that the damning information is going to keep cascading for the next eight months.

This. Precisely this.

The GOP is being advised that, if they block witnesses, voters will forget about their coverup by November.

They’re not accounting for the 8 months of drip drip drip. We’re not going to forget.

I don’t understand how anyone could read Trump’s tweets this morning and conclude anything other than he’s dangerously unhinged and needs to be removed from office

So far today the president has tweeted that one of his Democratic political foes "has not paid the price" he needs to pay, called for mass firings at the New York Times, and suggested NPR should be abolished. It's not yet 9:30 in the morning.

Just a thought but if you find yourself on national TV arguing that something the president just said is probably not a death threat maybe you should pause and reconsider your choices

Aaaaand we have a winner. Step up, Mr. Legum, and claim your prize. It's probably another tweet threat.

Just my arrogant opinion, but "has not paid the price" is a threat, death or not. There's NFW POTUS should be threatening people.
