Because Trump thinks that gold makes everything look classy. Just as many Americans think that everything should be red white blue and with a bald eagle in order to make something look 'patriotic'.

This. Trump is a poor person's idea of a rich person, and a stupid person's idea of a patriot. And a plurality of Americans have bought into it.

I think they'd already bought into those ideas; he's become the personification.

I'm always amused by how rural folks think he represents them. What do you think he'd do if confronted by something truly rural, like keeping up a woodpile, maintaining a wood-burning fireplace, etc.? There are still a few places with outhouses — not many but some.

My small, 1901 log cabin-under-the-shell-of clapboarding house is surrounded by McMansions. Several years ago we heard a septic tank alarm go off (it was 17 degrees F). Several minutes later a deputy showed up. I imagine the newly-transplanted city-raised owner was shocked to hear that it was his septic tank making that noise.

Trump also met with retired Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher and his wife at Mar-a-Lago last night, per Instagram posts by the Gallaghers. In a controversial move, Trump intervened in his war crimes case and reversed his demotion.

Can't you picture him walking into Walmart, plopping down in one of the scooter-carts, folding his arms across his chest and then yelling loudly that the scooter didn't automatically start up and drive him up and down the aisles?

“I never understood wind,” Trump said. “I know windmills very much, I have studied it better than anybody. I know it is very expensive. They are made in China and Germany mostly, very few made here, almost none, but they are manufactured, tremendous — if you are into this — tremendous fumes and gases are spewing into the atmosphere. I've used only a one-seater. Not recently but several family members still had them well into the 1970s. I will never forget the smell.

Someone should take Individual-1 to a more primitive campground where the only option are vault toilets. (Personally, I prefer them to portable johns as larger and less stinky.) Can you imagine the reaction if he dropped his Twitter access way down into one? :-D

I see windmill pieces components going past near my house almost daily. They are yuge, believe me. The trucks are about twice the length of what is usually legal and they require escort vehicles, forward and behind. They are made at a factory that is not too far from me.

Silly Trump.

Just heard mention on a CNN panel scratching their heads over the windmill obsession - she noted that this most likely goes back to his battle over the windmills by his Scottish golf course, and you know he can't stand losing.

I think it’s more of a anti-green energy thing than the golf theory. The bird memes and carbon footprint memes he cites come from that crowd.

Besides the proper term is “wind turbine,” not windmill.

Trump as poetry
Windmills

i never understood
(wind)

you know,
i know
windmills very much
gases are spewing into the atmosphere

you know
we have a world,
(right?)

so
the world is tiny
(compared to the universe)

so tremendous, tremendous
amount of fumes and everything.

-Not E.E. Cummings
